“That so-called Child of Fortune really has something wrong with his head. The teacher was right there, and even the dean was nearby, yet he actually tried to kill me.”
Shangguan Xue returned home, taking out a mirror to initiate a multi-person conference while simultaneously retrieving the Grand Spirit Lotus, which now had only three petals remaining.
“That Child of Fortune has truly lost his mind. With an Instructor present and the Dean nearby, he actually dared to try and kill me.”
“Courting death,” Jia Nan scoffed from where she sat beside her.
“Are you alright?” Ziyan asked, looking at Shangguan Xue with concern from within the mirror.
Shangguan Xue waved her hand dismissively.
“I’m fine. The Instructor stopped him. Right now, he’s receiving a stern lecture from the Dean.”
“You mentioned that the Child of Fortune has powerful forces backing him, capable even of killing the Cherryflame Saint,” Beigong Qingmei interjected, her brow furrowed slightly from the mirror.
Shi Ledong immediately followed up with a question.
“Will that Instructor be in danger?”
“Not for now.” Shangguan Xue shook her head.
“At this stage, the person accompanying the Child of Fortune is merely in the Nirvana realm; they wouldn’t be audacious enough to kill an Instructor from the Grand Spirit Academy.”
“For now?” Qingmei picked up on her implication.
“So he might seek revenge later?”
“Not just might, but definitely will,” Shangguan Xue replied with a wry smile.
“They repay grudges without fail, and as for kindness… they might just repay that with enmity too.”
“What a scumbag,” Ziyan commented sharply.
Beigong Qingmei nodded, agreeing with her assessment.
“Let me figure something out. If worst comes to worst, I’ll transfer that Instructor to the main pavilion.”
“Alright.” Shangguan Xue had complete faith in Qingmei.
She plucked a single petal from the lotus and placed it in her mouth, slowly absorbing its spiritual energy and consciousness, then casually remarked:
“Oh, by the way, did I ever tell you that I joined a club at the academy called the Martial Arts Society?”
“Dance Society?” Shi Ledong asked, astonished.
“You can dance?”
“Not ‘dance’ as in ‘wÇ”dÇŽo’, but ‘martial arts’ as in ‘wÇ”dà o’. The ‘wÇ”’ from Martial Saint, and the ‘dà o’ from principles,” Beigong Qingmei surprisingly clarified.
“I know about that one; it’s made up of disciples who revere the Martial Saint.”
Upon hearing this, Ziyan’s interest was piqued.
“Are there any clubs that worship us?”
“Not that I’m aware of,” Shangguan Xue said exasperatedly.
“Because the entire Central Continent worships the three of you.”
“And there are certainly no clubs that worship me,” Jia Nan grumbled, propping her chin on her hand.
‘This is a human academy; what business does a demon beast like you have meddling here?’ Shangguan Xue yearned to say, but her survival instinct held her back.
She quickly steered the conversation back.
“What I wanted to say is that there were two disciples in the Martial Arts Society who later became Elder Sister Dong’s and Ziyan’s students, respectively.”
“Interesting,” Shi Ledong mused, now fully engaged.
“My student… what were they like?”
“They possessed an indestructible body, cultivating the Sacred Statue Devil Suppression Art,” Shangguan Xue recalled, adding details from her past lives.
“They joined the Sun Palace specifically to suppress the Yan clan.”
“Had a grudge against the Yan?” Shi Ledong’s interest deepened.
“I don’t know, but later she perished alongside three Yan,” Shangguan Xue said, spreading her hands.
“This child was truly exceptional.”
“You’re a child yourself right now,” Jia Nan remarked from beside her, casually scooping her up and settling her on her lap.
“What was that child’s name?” Beigong Qingmei asked, seizing the opportune moment.
She knew that if the topic wasn’t changed, Shangguan Xue would inevitably start bickering with Jia Nan, effectively ending their discussion for the day.
Shangguan Xue, her bickering interrupted, sighed.
“…Qin Yueyan.”
Shi Ledong nodded, indicating her understanding.
“I’ll keep an eye out then.”
“Then?” Shangguan Xue didn’t quite grasp her meaning.
Elder Sister Dong offered a helpless smile that clearly conveyed, ‘Are you dense?’
“After the three years at the academy conclude, students can either pursue advanced studies at the scholarly palace or join the Purple Smoke Pavilion, the Sun Palace, or the Ink Pavilion.”
“It’s usually around that time that I take on new students.”
“So that’s how it is… Qingmei, why didn’t you tell me?” the girl exclaimed loudly.
“Jia Nan,” Beigong Qingmei said with a weary sigh.
“Give her a good smack for me.”
“A trifle,” Jia Nan replied, effortlessly pinning Shangguan Xue down and delivering a few slaps to her backside.
“Enough?”
“Plenty,” Qingmei affirmed, giving her a five-star rating.
“Why did you hit me?” the Martial Saint whined, her face a picture of wronged distress.
“I didn’t tell you? No, you simply weren’t listening back then,” Beigong Qingmei sneered, a cold smile playing on her lips.
Shangguan Xue immediately conceded her mistake.
“I’m sorry.”
“Elder Sister Shangguan,” Ziyan suddenly spoke up.
“What about my student?”
Shangguan Xue had anticipated her question and had already prepared her explanation.
“Dugu Ling, a Spirit Poison Body, cultivated the Illusionary Rainbow Poison Art. She joined the Purple Smoke Pavilion wanting to learn alchemy. In the end, she perished alongside her enemies.”
“Why is it always ‘perished together’?” Jia Nan couldn’t help but interject with a complaint.
“Do they worship you because you’re so reckless?”
“I think so too,” Shangguan Xue said, nodding earnestly, before plucking another petal from the Grand Spirit Lotus and consuming it.
“Speaking of which,” Beigong Qingmei, ever the one to ask questions, posed another.
“Sister Xue, why did you divide the Grand Spirit Lotus?”
“There are three reasons,” Shangguan Xue explained, holding up three fingers.
“Firstly, those children later mostly resisted the invaders. Helping them grow benefits everyone.”
She added “mostly” because two of them were, in fact, invaders: Luo Jin and that Yan.
Shangguan Xue lowered one finger.
“Secondly, I don’t want to rely too much on external forces. There will be many more opportunities to seize in the future, and over-reliance could destabilize my foundation.”
“That makes sense,” Shi Ledong remarked.
“And the third?” Ziyan asked, craning her neck inquisitively.
“Thirdly, to show the Child of Fortune that what he desires to seize can be casually given away by me,” Shangguan Xue chuckled mischievously.
The nine-tailed fox stroked her head as she spoke.
“I see. You’re doing this to provoke him.”
“Mhm.”
“I see…” Ziyan nodded, then turned to Beigong Qingmei.
“Qingmei, you know about tomorrow’s matter, right?”
“I do,” Beigong Qingmei confirmed.
“What matter?”
Beigong Qingmei and Ziyan exchanged amused glances.
“Sister Xue, tomorrow we’ll have a surprise for you.”
“I have an ominous premonition about this,” Shangguan Xue mumbled, pursing her lips.
“I’m off to train. See ya!”
