Consciousness gradually returned, and the feedback from every part of her body carried a strange sense of ‘initiation’.
It was as if her heart was beating for the first time, her muscles contracting for the first time, her joints bending for the first time, her lungs breathing for the first time.
It felt like she had been given a brand-new body, so new that Ren Anhua felt a sense of alienation from herself.
“Wow, wow, wow, what is this adorable creature? Where did you guys get it?”
“It’s that slime monster. You said it was disgusting and didn’t want to touch it a moment ago. Did rinsing it in some water change your attitude that much?”
“Hey, no way.”
“Although it’s hard to imagine, that’s the truth. To be honest, I never expected that gang leader to become so… petite. I really don’t know what Ke Xingmei did to him.”
The conversation between a man and a woman reached her ears.
Ren Anhua recognized the man’s voice as that of the young man from the RV.
The woman’s voice, however, held a trace of childishness that hadn’t faded, and Ren Anhua was certain she had never heard it before.
In her memory, Ren Anhua had watched her own body melt.
Although ‘slime monster’ was a rude metaphor, it was undeniably an apt description of her at that moment.
But what did ‘adorable creature’ mean?
For some reason, Ren Anhua was terrified that this term was being used to describe her current self.
And that ‘gang leader’ thing—Ren Anhua hated it most when people called her a gang leader or a bandit chief.
“I, Ren… I, Ren Anhua, am just a man leading a group of survivors, struggling to get by in this world. I’m not some gang leader.”
Ren Anhua felt her voice was strange.
It was a normal speaking tone, yet it sounded slightly high-pitched.
But it wasn’t simply sharp; it carried the sweet lilt of a young girl.
‘The sweet lilt of a young girl?’
An inexplicable chill ran down Ren Anhua’s spine.
She imagined her usual Hawaiian beach boy look paired with such a cute, girlish voice, and feared she might become afraid to speak in the future.
But she couldn’t be sure what she looked like right now.
She remembered the line—I’m not sure what it will turn into either—what on earth did that wicked woman with the vicious ability mean?
Her thick eyelashes trembled slightly.
Ren Anhua cautiously opened her eyes.
The first thing she noticed was that flashy man in black with the black blade.
She instantly felt the urge to unleash her full power and annihilate him.
But reason told her that for her to still be alive meant the other party had at least one method to completely subdue her, enough for them to watch her reopen her eyes with such composure and no trace of fear—assuming they had any brains.
Ren Anhua certainly wouldn’t pin her hopes on them being idiots.
And as the one who’d been ambushed, she didn’t even want them to be brainless.
“Shanshui, look, she opened her eyes! Her eyes are so pretty, too. All pink and cute.”
The young girl with the childish voice spoke excitedly.
“This doll is super beautiful, ah, not a doll, anyway, can you give her to me?”
Although her appearance was already quite young, her voice was clearly even younger.
She looked like a high school student, with a cute blush on her cheeks—a beautiful girl brimming with lively, youthful energy.
The girl wore an intricate dress, heavily adorned with lace and frills.
Her stockings were printed with two small kittens, and on her feet were a pair of thick-heeled, round-toed leather shoes.
In short, her attire seemed very elaborate and complex, yet it perfectly matched the girl’s cute style.
In this post-apocalyptic world, it was the kind of look that made you wonder how she was still alive.
Ren Anhua remembered a group called “Lolitas” that seemed to have a high degree of overlap with this girl.
She didn’t know much about them, only that they were a group not to be trifled with.
She seemed to be lying on a carpet.
The surrounding furnishings looked like a living room, though the space was much narrower, making it feel a bit cramped.
However, the decor, based on a bright yellow color scheme, felt warm and cozy, making up for the lack of space.
A thin blanket was wrapped around her up to her chest, and she wore nothing else underneath.
Ren Anhua propped herself up.
Perhaps it was an illusion, but her body felt much lighter.
This strange sensation filled Ren Anhua with immense doubt.
As she sat up, her damp hair fell in front of her eyes, a soft, cherry-pink color.
Curious, Ren Anhua reached up to touch it, only to find that her hands had also become slender and soft, her fair, clean skin tinged with a lovely pale pink.
Her eyelid twitched.
A sense of foreboding welled up in her heart.
“Stop touching. I’ve already checked. You’ve completely turned into a girl.”
Lu Shanshui watched as this cute girl, who looked nothing like a gang leader, frantically checked her own body.
With a schadenfreude-filled tone, he dashed all her hopes.
“And when I say completely, I mean down there too…”
“What did you people do?!”
Ren Anhua’s hands pressed against her lower body.
No matter how she searched, she couldn’t find her familiar companion; all she felt was a strange, empty sensation.
Her cute little face was etched with incredulous shock.
“That’s a difficult question for me to answer, because I don’t know either. It was all Ke Xingmei’s doing.”
Lu Shanshui spread his hands, indicating he was helpless.
“First, let me introduce myself. My name is Lu Shanshui, the leader of this small team. I regret what has happened to you. We should have had a friendly, cooperative relationship. A series of misunderstandings and coincidences led to the current situation. Since things have come to this, I hope you won’t be too angry. Actually, you look quite… quite cute right now. In any case, I think it’s a lot easier on the eyes than your previous scumbag image.”
‘This guy is holding back laughter.’
Ren Anhua could see it.
This bastard named Lu Shanshui was trying not to laugh!
Although Ren Anhua had thought Lu Shanshui was flashy and deserved a beating from the first glance, she now realized she had clearly underestimated just how punchable he was.
What did he mean by “scumbag image”?
A moment ago he was calling her a “slime monster,” and now every other sentence was a jab at her.
And then he had the nerve to tell her “not to be too angry.”
Thinking of Er Gou, who had died with his eyes wide open, Ren Anhua felt this man was truly a communication genius, an expert at making talks break down.
However, as a mature, high-class member of society, Ren Anhua obviously wouldn’t lose her composure like some common street punk.
The main reason was that she was under their roof and had to bow her head.
She didn’t know what trump cards they held that allowed them to speak so casually in front of her.
Logically speaking, if she suddenly unleashed her ability, she was confident she could turn everything within a two-meter radius into molten lava in one second.
But she didn’t.
She was still observing the situation.
As for who this ‘Ke Xingmei’ Lu Shanshui mentioned was, Ren Anhua had a rough idea.
It must be the tall woman who had said, ‘I’m not sure what it will turn into either.’
The changes to her body were inextricably linked to that woman.
“It wasn’t that much, what I did.”
The sound of footsteps came from behind her.
Only then did Ren Anhua realize this place had multiple levels.
Ke Xingmei descended gracefully from upstairs.
Following behind the tall, beautiful woman was a girl who looked very similar to her, though the girl’s face was slightly haggard.
She wore thick, fleece-lined cotton clothes.
Even with the current chill in the air, her attire was a bit too exaggerated, as if she had just walked out of a world of ice and snow.
Ren Anhua shot a strange glance at Lu Shanshui.
This bastard was living too well in the apocalypse.
Just how many women did he have?
“I haven’t mastered this new ability, Transformation, for very long. I usually just let it take its natural course. This was my first time trying to adjust its direction, and it was just a spur-of-the-moment change. It only took a few minutes. It was… something like, degenerating his male reproductive organs as much as possible, then modifying the s*x chromosomes, and some other miscellaneous stuff.”
Ke Xingmei seemed quite unsure about what she had done, her voice a little soft.
“It was because he said he wanted the women in the RV. I got really angry at the time, so the modifications were mostly based on that sentence. In short, I altered him in a way that would make it impossible for him to be a man.”
“As for what kind of mutation it would trigger, that mostly depends on the individual’s luck. I really didn’t think too much about it at the time. Thinking about it now, since I already modified the s*x chromosomes, why did I have to specifically degenerate his male reproductive organs?”
“It was only after the Transformation began that I felt many of the modifications were not quite right. There were too many repetitive and nonsensical operations. By the end, I didn’t even want to continue; this ability is too complicated. I just thought I’d throw out the seed I’d finished modifying and see what happened. After all, he just looked like some bandit chief, so I didn’t care what he turned into.”
“Ehehe, I didn’t expect him to be Ren Anhua. It’s great that the final transformation was still human. It was all your good fortune.”
‘What a venomous woman!’
After hearing this, Ren Anhua felt a cold sweat trickling down her back.
She never thought she had unwittingly experienced a terror worse than death.
Ren Anhua worriedly touched her face.
Thankfully, her facial features were intact.
