“Big sister…” the girl’s voice carried a strange, inexplicable charm.
Song Ning’s body tensed. Her face was still flushed, and her mouth felt tacky with saliva. She didn’t know what to say.
Just moments ago… she had actually done those things to the girl!
“Um… Chengcheng, I… I’m sorry…” she lowered her head, not daring to speak too loudly. How had she lost control like that?
Ping Chengcheng said nothing, and that silence made Song Ning uneasy.
She glanced down at the girl resting her small head in her lap and saw tears brimming in the girl’s eyes.
“You’re just going to say sorry, and that’s it?” Ping Chengcheng pouted, her voice faltering with grievance.
Song Ning’s face turned a deep red. She couldn’t find a way to respond. What was she supposed to say? But…
No, she had already done those things—she had to take responsibility. But she hadn’t prepared herself for this at all! All those things she said before…
She’d talked about only dating when it felt safe. Was that all thrown out the window now?
…She’d done it already. Now she had to own up.
“Big sister… don’t you want to take responsibility…?”
…Song Ning nearly choked.
“Chengcheng, I… I’m sorry… for doing those things to you… But I will take responsibility!” she said seriously.
Since she’d gone that far, she couldn’t be like some “scumbag” running away afterward. It would be like someone blaming it on being drunk and denying everything.
Her mind flashed back to the moment Chengcheng had taken a bullet for her. That memory only deepened her guilt.
Ping Chengcheng watched all of Song Ning’s expressions closely, the corners of her mouth curling into a sly smile.
‘Big sister’s already wrapped around my finger~’
“It’s okay, big sister. Sniff… If you’re not ready yet, I can wait for you!” Her eyes sparkled like stars, and she looked up at Song Ning with exaggerated sadness.
“Big sister is the best~” she hugged Song Ning’s arm and gave it a few playful shakes.
Song Ning gave a helpless, bitter smile.
“Alright, alright. Let’s be together, okay?” she gently flicked the girl’s forehead.
“Ow…” the girl whimpered, covering her forehead. “Big sister’s bullying me again.”
Song Ning was speechless. “This… counts as bullying?”
She felt a little restless inside. She couldn’t believe she’d done something so outrageous…
Shaking her head, she shifted her thoughts to something more practical—survival.
“Chengcheng, was it you who saved me earlier? I feel like…”
“I’ve become an evolver too, just like you.”
She clenched her fists, feeling the power pulsing through her body. It was a strange feeling—like she could take on a dozen people by herself. Her mind felt sharper, her reflexes faster.
“How about… we spar a bit?” Song Ning’s eyes lit up as she suggested it.
Ping Chengcheng smiled and nodded. She was curious about Song Ning’s current strength too.
The two walked to the entrance of the base and stood facing each other. As they passed by Wu Sheng, his eyes widened in disbelief.
“S-Song-jie, you…”
Before he could finish, Ping Chengcheng shot him a warning glare.
“Did you eat, Song-jie? Haha~” he laughed nervously, scratching his head.
Song Ning gave him a polite smile. “Not yet, later.”
Then she looked toward the eager girl standing not far away and beckoned her over.
“Come on, Chengcheng. Don’t hold back.”
“Okay~ Be careful, big sister.”
The moment she finished speaking, Chengcheng dashed forward like an arrow leaving the string, her small pink fist swinging with momentum.
But to Song Ning, her speed looked incredibly slow. Her dynamic vision—was it enhanced?
Her pupils narrowed slightly, and she moved—sidestepping easily and grabbing the girl’s arm, ready to pin her down.
Then she felt a surge of incredible force.
!!
Ping Chengcheng’s strength—was that powerful?!
In just an instant, the girl broke free of her grip.
She smiled sweetly. “Big sister, don’t underestimate me~”
The fact that Song Ning could even catch her arm surprised Chengcheng. In her mind, Song Ning shouldn’t have been able to react to her punch at all.
“Again!” Song Ning was a little unwilling to lose. Since they were dating now, she definitely had to be the dominant one!
And if she was going to be the dominant one, she couldn’t lose to the bottom!
She focused completely, preparing for Chengcheng’s next move.
“Big sister, here I come!”
This time, Ping Chengcheng didn’t hold back and used her full power in human form. The two girls circled each other rapidly, and Wu Sheng stared, completely dumbfounded.
What the hell—when did Song Ning get so badass?
Even though their match looked evenly matched, Ping Chengcheng was actually growing more and more shocked.
Every time she attacked, Song Ning dodged perfectly!
She felt like a little pet being toyed with by Song Ning.
Though she hated to admit it… Chengcheng knew she had lost.
Panting heavily, she stopped her assault. “Big sister, you’re amazing.”
Song Ning stepped forward and gently ruffled her hair. “Chengcheng is incredible too… I didn’t expect you to be that strong.”
She remembered the sound of the girl’s punches slicing through the air and felt a chill—if she had taken one of those head-on, she’d probably have broken a few bones at least.
The girl shook her head. “Being strong doesn’t mean much. If we both had weapons…”
“Big sister, you’d be able to use your speed advantage and kill me easily with just a knife.”
Song Ning giggled. “Why would I ever kill you?”
“You dummy.”
“Right, hehe~” Ping Chengcheng laughed goofily.
“Wu-gege~ Big sister hasn’t eaten yet.”
“Go make something for her, will you?” She tilted her head at Wu Sheng, annoyed at his lack of awareness.
Wu Sheng nodded quickly and ran off to prepare food.
The news of Huang Zhong’s death had already spread throughout the base. It was a small place—word got out within five minutes.
Everyone was keeping their heads down, terrified of provoking the two girls. In their eyes, the girls were scarier than Huang Zhong had ever been.
The way they killed so effortlessly—it terrified them to the core.
The JK girl seemed to have just woken up from her fainting spell. She smacked her lips as she walked out of the storage room, then froze when she spotted Song Ning at the door.
“Ah!!!”
One sharp scream—and she fainted again.
Song Ning blinked. “Uh… what happened to her?”
The girl shook her head. “I don’t know either. She’s got no nerve at all.”
Song Ning remembered—this was the girl who had called Chengcheng a “monster” before. She must’ve fainted from seeing Chengcheng’s eyes back then.
But Chengcheng’s eyes were so pretty and adorable. Just how faint-hearted could someone be to be scared of that.
