A Rainbow at the Top

Chapter 31 • 1,534 words • 13 min read

Until he was almost out of breath, his whole body limp in Lu Xingyan’s arms, only then did the other release him with burning eyes.

Xu Yi panted, took out his phone to check the time, and said with reddened eyes, “If we don’t go up now, we’ll miss it.”

Lu Xingyan paused. Though he didn’t know what they’d miss, he absolutely wouldn’t let his baby’s plans fall through.

So he quickly straightened Xu Yi’s clothes, even buttoning the hoodie all the way up, nearly choking him.

Xu Yi pulled him upstairs.

The mall was huge, with many exhibitions, and queues could be seen everywhere.

Xu Yi led Lu Xingyan to the seventh floor. To the left of the stairs was a beautifully decorated flower wall tunnel.

Each wall panel had different backdrops for photo ops.

Many couples were taking pictures there, and one could even pay for a photographer.

But Xu Yi didn’t seem interested, walking straight toward the deeper end.

Lu Xingyan felt a little sorry; he too wanted to take couple photos with Xu Yi.

Xu Yi walked to the far end and scanned a code at a counter.

The ticket attendant opened the door for them.

The moment the door cracked open, Lu Xingyan felt a blast of cold air.

What came into view were slowly rotating small cabins.

There was a Ferris wheel here?

The staff let them in and closed the door.

Xu Yi looked at the dense rain and mist outside the transparent cabin and said regretfully, “Too bad the weather’s bad.”

“Then no one can see what we’re doing, right?” Lu Xingyan stood up and moved to sit beside Xu Yi.

His hand naturally slipped around Xu Yi’s waist, a flicker of desire in his eyes.

Xu Yi turned his head to look out the window, as if ignoring the request, but it also seemed like a coy acquiescence.

Not being able to see what Lu Xingyan was doing added a hint of thrill to the unknown.

A hand slid under his knee, and suddenly his body lost support.

Xu Yi lost his balance in the moving Ferris wheel and instinctively cried out, hugging Lu Xingyan’s head.

“What are you doing!” Xu Yi said, half embarrassed and half annoyed. Though the Ferris wheel was stable, it was transparent and too far from the ground, lacking the security of solid footing.

Being lifted suddenly gave him a swaying, uneasy feeling.

Lu Xingyan didn’t answer. Instead, he buried his face in Xu Yi’s chest. “Baby smells like sweet strawberries.”

“! That’s just body wash!” Xu Yi’s scalp tingled. Sitting in Lu Xingyan’s lap at this height, holding his head was like holding a big stuffed toy.

If not for the hot breath spraying on his chest, it would be quite comfortable.

Lu Xingyan rubbed his face against Xu Yi’s chest discontentedly. His firm nose tip touched somewhere, making Xu Yi tremble slightly.

So sensitive.

Lu Xingyan blurted out.

“Does it smell the same down there?”

??? Xu Yi didn’t follow.

How did they suddenly go high-speed? Did he miss something?

Lu Xingyan had transformed back into the man full of dirty talk online.

He couldn’t handle that online.

In reality, it was even harder.

Xu Yi tried hard to suppress his reaction. His face was burning hot, but luckily Lu Xingyan couldn’t see it from this angle.

“Then do you want a taste?”

He responded a little dizzily.

Xu Yi didn’t know which place Lu Xingyan meant, so he could only give this ambiguous answer.

“Can I?” Lu Xingyan lifted his head.

Xu Yi couldn’t dodge in time and was caught looking flustered.

His face reddened even more, his eyes seemingly about to drip water.

Lu Xingyan could no longer control himself. He pressed the back of the boy’s head and kissed him.

In the small space, only the sound of their kissing and the rustle of clothes could be heard.

At such an amorous moment, if Lu Xingyan didn’t start getting handsy, he wouldn’t be a normal man.

Whether from lack of oxygen or too much tension, Xu Yi’s mind began to go fuzzy, completely taken over by the other’s rhythm.

After a long while, the inexperienced Xu Yi finally pushed against Lu Xingyan’s chest with difficulty, his face flushed as he struggled to breathe fresh air.

His dizzy mind wandered.

So the ‘there’ Lu Xingyan meant was just lips—no, he hadn’t thought of anything else either.

Lu Xingyan couldn’t help savoring it, the watery light in his eyes adding a hint of coquettishness to Xu Yi’s usually aloof gaze.

Xu Yi looked the most beautiful at this moment.

As they both calmed their breathing, Xu Yi suddenly looked up and said, “There’s a rainbow.”

Lu Xingyan immediately looked outside.

The dark clouds in the sky had partly dispersed, faintly revealing golden sunlight.

Though it was still raining, the sky had brightened considerably.

The Ferris wheel had just reached the highest point.

They were so close to the rainbow, as if they could touch it.

“It’s my first time seeing a rainbow like this.” Xu Yi unconsciously pressed his hands against the glass, staring at the rainbow in fascination, lost in thought.

He unconsciously took out his phone. “So, does this mean we’ll be together forever?”

He had heard that seeing a rainbow together at the top of a Ferris wheel was a sweet blessing.

He turned his head slightly to look at Lu Xingyan.

“Click.”

Lu Xingyan caught the scene.

The rainbow in the sunny rain.

And the beloved so close.

He felt very happy.

Lu Xingyan walked over and took Xu Yi’s hand. “This is the best gift I’ve ever received in my life.”

He squeezed Xu Yi’s hand tightly, like a child who couldn’t bear to part with a newly received gift.

After getting off the Ferris wheel, Lu Xingyan and Xu Yi slowly wandered downstairs.

Lu Xingyan even bought two sets of pajamas.

Xu Yi found it strange. “Why buy so many pajamas?”

“We’ll wear them together.” Lu Xingyan lifted the bag expectantly.

Xu Yi didn’t want anyone to notice their identity, so if they secretly wore them in the dorm, Li Yuan wouldn’t talk, and it would be safe.

“I still have two sets in my dorm.” Xu Yi said instinctively.

Unexpectedly, Lu Xingyan immediately glared at him. “Those are too revealing.”

Because Xu Yi liked to wear soft pajamas.

Seeing Lu Xingyan so insistent, Xu Yi didn’t say anything else.

He only became more convinced that Lu Xingyan was someone who valued emotional value and ritual.

They went to a shop downstairs to buy a cake, planning to take it back and eat together.

Lu Xingyan’s fingers had been tied with the thin string for too long and were swollen.

Only under Xu Yi’s coercion and promise to buy him another ring did he take it off.

For a moment, Xu Yi wondered if Lu Xingyan might actually be falling in love with him.

Back in the dorm, Li Yuan came back a bit later, looking exhausted.

As soon as he entered, he saw an exquisite cake box on the small table where they usually ate hotpot together.

Li Yuan asked doubtfully, “Whose birthday?”

Xu Yi sat nearby, looking in a good mood. “Yeah, Lu Xingyan’s.”

“No need, we can just share the cake.” Lu Xingyan came out of the bathroom, wearing a clearly new set of gray pajamas.

Li Yuan paused, his gaze shifting to Xu Yi.

Couple pajamas already?

Was he the third wheel in this dorm?

With mixed feelings, Li Yuan ate the cake, recalling the time they had slept together that day.

Had they already gotten together back then?

No wonder he had invited Xu Yi to sleep with him and was rejected by both.

“I need to take a call.” Xu Yi glanced at his phone and walked toward the balcony.

He even turned back to close the balcony door tightly.

As if afraid they might overhear the call.

Lu Xingyan stopped moving and couldn’t help looking at Xu Yi’s face.

He seemed very unhappy.

But Xu Yi quickly turned his back, leaving Lu Xingyan unable to see his expression.

What’s wrong?

Lu Xingyan wanted to go over, but felt it wasn’t right to eavesdrop on someone’s secret.

Until Xu Yi came back and continued eating the cake without mentioning the call at all.

Lu Xingyan slowed down his eating.

He felt a little down.

Why… weren’t they already together?

And their relationship was so good.

Why did Xu Yi still feel like he was hiding so many things from him?

Lu Xingyan messaged on his phone: “– Baby, is there something upsetting you?”

“– No.” Xu Yi replied quickly, then resumed eating the cake as if nothing was wrong.

But Lu Xingyan felt the cake in his mouth wasn’t so sweet anymore.

Xu Yi was clearly dealing with something.

Why wouldn’t he tell him anything?

Was he just being fooled?

All along, he had been the one unilaterally approaching Xu Yi.

He had never asked Xu Yi if he was willing or if he was forced into this.

Perhaps they needed to have a serious talk about this.
