Before dawn had even broken outside, Florina opened her eyes.
It was time to prepare breakfast.
She propped herself up to sit, but as soon as she moved her arm, a heavy yet soft sensation pressed down on her.
Was this sleep paralysis? Or a gang attack?
Florina turned her head to look.
On her left was Hoshino Sakio, her head resting in the crook of Florina’s arm, hair brushing against her skin, fingers clutching her sleeve as if afraid she would run away.
On her right was Kishiro Haku, half-turned, her face pressed against Florina’s forearm, breathing steady.
Perhaps sensing Florina’s movement, Kishiro nudged closer, tightening her grip.
“Let’s lie a bit longer…”
When did you two even fall asleep like this?
Florina recalled that yesterday it was late, and the rain still fell.
Kishiro didn’t want Sakio to walk alone at night, so she invited her to stay over.
Since there were only two rooms, Kishiro intended to “sacrifice” herself and sleep with me; but Sakio refused to trouble the host, insisting on taking responsibility for sleeping beside me herself.
To prevent a dispute, I returned to my own room, allowing Kishiro and Sakio to share the bed.
They agreed, but who would have thought they would end up like this?
“Why does everyone want to crawl into my bed?”
Florina said this helplessly, but a smile of reminiscence appeared on her face.
During their three-person team camping trip, Mu Kongyi and Abigail had done the same.
With the golem keeping watch, everyone could have slept soundly.
Yet Mu Kongyi insisted on sleeping with her, offering a convenient excuse: to protect the saint closely.
Abigail reacted quickly, fearing Mu Kongyi might attack the saint.
In the end, three people squeezed into one tent, none sleeping well.
Finishing the memory, Florina deftly withdrew her arms from both of them, slowly moving Kishiro’s leg off her.
Finally free from this “double sleep paralysis” predicament.
After getting out of bed, Florina saw Kishiro’s leg brushing against Sakio, whose head tilted to rest on Kishiro’s shoulder.
Neither had woken; silently, they held each other, instinctively treating the other as a pillow.
Yesterday one was being chased, the other was fighting.
Better to let them sleep a bit longer.
Florina smiled slightly and left the bedroom.
“Eyeball monster, I still want to see what’s on you.”
【It’s an eyeball monster, and no, you can’t see it. Sakio told me you’re too young for that.】
Incidentally, Sakio had threatened the eyeball not to show Florina or Kishiro, or she would burn it.
The doll pounced on the eyeball.
“Just a subordinate, how dare it manage me! Let me see!”
【No! Yamee!】
The eyeball hurried away; it didn’t want to be burned.
“Good morning.”
Rubbing her eyes, Florina saw the eyeball and doll playing in the living room, but she didn’t pay much attention, heading straight to the kitchen.
After preparing a porridge matching Kishiro’s taste, Florina brewed tea, leaned against the sofa, and turned on the TV.
“It’s still early; watching some news isn’t a bad choice.”
No paperwork piled high on the table this early, just tea and TV—what a pleasant life.
Florina squinted contentedly, growing fonder of this place.
“Good morning, welcome to today’s news bulletin.
Earlier this morning, local police successfully solved a kidnapping case; the hostages were safely rescued, and two suspects apprehended.”
“The suspects are both special ability users with invisibility…”
“Recently, monster activity in the city has decreased, but crimes by special ability users have increased.
Police remind citizens to stay calm in such situations and report to authorities while ensuring safety.”
The eyeball and the doll also came closer.
“They were ambushed; how could they report it in time?” The doll said mercilessly.
Florina asked curiously, “Doll, you witnessed this?”
“I was hiding in an alley and saw a transparent person knock this unlucky fellow out.”
The doll pointed at a person in the news footage.
Florina recognized her; it was the familiar one Suzuki Megumi had mentioned, the missing magical girl fanatic.
“The one who chased Sakio last night was also invisible. Silently, they approached from behind, raising a bat to knock her out.”
If not for Hoshino Sakio attracting lightning, the doll could have escaped earlier, and wouldn’t be here.
Then she realized something else.
Sakio still wore the cross given by Florina.
The cross was meant for protection. If Sakio faced danger, Florina would immediately come.
The doll’s excitement faded instantly.
That meant, no matter what happened to Sakio, Florina would inevitably intervene.
Florina casually asked, “So, that mantis monster was a transformed special ability user?”
“Rather than transformed, it ran out of him.”
The doll corrected, “Strangely, my lies had no effect on the mantis monster; someone might be controlling it.”
“In that case, someone also tried to control Kishiro yesterday. Probably the same person.” Florina frowned.
Being watched by someone was unpleasant; worse, the other was in the dark while she was exposed.
“Then it’s none of my concern.”
The doll’s “V” grin deepened.
If it made Florina troubled, she felt pure delight.
“That’s none of your business.” Florina lifted the doll, “But did you know the collector requested I return you?”
“!”
The doll panicked, trying to flee.
“Eyeball, grab her.”
Hearing Florina, the eyeball extended a tentacle, binding the doll tightly, and delivered her to Florina.
The doll swore, “Florina, you’re a saint and still colluding with that pervert?”
“Firstly, I’m retired, a retired saint; secondly, I don’t know the collector personally, just taking their request, so it’s not collusion.”
Florina took the doll and coaxed, “Finally, give me the collector’s info, and I won’t hand you over.”
In truth, she could never hand over the doll to the collector.
Anyone who treats the Pain Witch’s creation as a collectible is hardly trustworthy.
Besides, the doll was only item #11; Florina didn’t dare imagine what more dangerous items might be ahead.
“What? You want info? Just say so.” The doll relaxed slightly, then glared at Florina.
So mean, deliberately scaring her.
“I remember you were pure before. Where did you learn this method of first intimidation, then coercion?”
Having crossed paths with Florina in the past, the doll was familiar with early Florina.
“You can use your old lie on me.”
“You have Divine Blessing; my lie won’t work.”
“I’ve already turned it off.”
The doll hesitated, looking at Florina, suspicious of her friendliness.
Better follow Florina’s instructions.
She knew with Florina’s current strength, even if she tried her lie, Florina could nullify it.
