The moment Wang Ning fell, Glasseanne reacted immediately.
She caught her with both hands and stepped back with one foot to absorb the force.
Wang Ning tumbled straight into her arms.
Her nose sank into something soft, and for a second, she almost couldn’t breathe.
Her breathing felt like it had been dipped in mint water—cool, clean, with a faint fragrance that eased all her tension.
“Are you okay?”
Glasseanne looked down at the white-haired girl.
Her eyes lowered slightly.
Her tone was as calm as always.
The person in her arms didn’t seem to have processed what just happened.
After a while, she finally started to struggle.
Glasseanne let go casually.
“Huu—”
Wang Ning steadied herself, still shaken.
She looked down at the culprit that had tripped her—a plastic drink bottle lying on the floor.
Anger instantly surged to her head.
Before she could start condemning the litterbug who threw bottles on the floor—
She suddenly heard a familiar voice calling her.
She instinctively turned toward the door.
—It was Wang Yi.
She seemed to have come in a hurry.
She hadn’t even changed out of her training uniform, only hastily thrown on her blue school jacket.
Her softly curled caramel-brown hair was tied in a side ponytail.
The messy bangs on her forehead partially obscured her eyes.
Only her exposed orange cat ears were tense and flattened against her head.
“Yi Yi, you’re here!”
Wang Ning lit up and walked toward her cheerfully.
The next moment, Wang Yi lunged forward and hugged her like a sloth.
Wang Ning blinked at her little sister who had suddenly latched onto her.
She pressed her lips together, hesitated for a moment, then couldn’t bear to push her away.
She finally raised her hand and gently patted her sister’s soft, fluffy head.
Sigh.
Getting Wang Yi to stop being so attached to her was harder than quitting… anything.
“Big Sister, Big Sister, Big Sister—”
Wang Yi wriggled in her arms, sticking to her like syrup.
Her voice was sweet and clingy—like marshmallows dipped in honey, soft and crisp all at once.
She looked up at Wang Ning with sparkling eyes, eager and proud.
“I got first place in today’s combat exam!”
She looked just like a little orange cat showing off her prize to its owner.
Her glittering cat eyes sparkled as she stared up at her sister, begging for praise.
Wang Ning didn’t hesitate at all.
“Yi Yi is amazing!”
“During the exam, I flew past this super pretty butterfly—it scattered water-blue shimmer dust!”
“It looked just like the color of your eyes!”
“So I caught it!”
“I’ll take it to the dorm next time so you can see it!”
“Mhm, mhm!”
The two chatted back and forth.
But halfway through, Wang Ning suddenly remembered—there was someone else still here.
She let go of Wang Yi and turned around to look for Glasseanne—
Not noticing the flash of darkness in her sister’s gaze the moment she turned.
Wang Yi’s hand was still clutching the hem of Wang Ning’s jacket.
She stood behind her sister, gaze fixed on the unaware Wang Ning, her expression blank as she stared at that blue-haired figure.
So annoying.
Glasseanne naturally noticed the hostile look—but simply smiled.
She said to Wang Ning, “Wang Ning, would this count as me helping you?”
Wang Ning blinked.
Then nodded. “It counts.”
But the moment the words left her lips, she regretted them.
Glasseanne said, “Then, as repayment, you need to agree to the condition I mentioned earlier.”
Wang Ning froze.
She could feel Wang Yi’s gaze shifting toward her.
“Big Sister, what did you promise her?”
Cold sweat dripped down Wang Ning’s temple.
What was she supposed to say?
‘Your sister sold herself to be someone’s body pillow’?
No no no—calm down, Wang Ning! That’s not suitable for minors!
And when did I even agree to it—?!
Doesn’t matter! Think fast—come up with a better reason!
Her brain kicked into overdrive, scrambling for a way out of this situation.
But the very next second, she realized the most important thing she needed to do—
Was to shut Glasseanne’s mouth.
The light blue-haired girl leaned back lazily, sitting on the desk—Wang Ning’s desk.
She propped her chin in her hand and began, “Oh, and you said you wanted me to look into the Empress’s mea—”
She didn’t get to finish.
Because Wang Ning had already lunged over and slapped her hand over Glasseanne’s mouth.
Glasseanne blinked slowly at the close-up face in front of her.
Wang Ning stared at her desperately, eyes pleading.
Wang Ning: Don’t say it, don’t say it!
I agree, I agree, okay?!
Glasseanne seemed to understand.
Her eyes curved into a crescent shape, and she nodded lightly.
Wang Ning let out a sigh of relief and pulled her hand back as if collapsing from exhaustion.
‘Finally…’
But the moment she turned around—
Her body was yanked backward.
“Big Sister, what did you promise her?”
Wang Yi asked again.
Her voice trembled with unease, almost panic.
She pulled Wang Ning tightly to her side, squishing her cheek against her sister’s shoulder.
“Big Sister, tell me, please?”
She stared into Wang Ning’s eyes, pressing insistently.
“If she threatened you, just tell me.”
Wang Ning: How am I supposed to say this out loud?!
“No, she didn’t threaten me.”
“I just wanted to repay her for helping me.”
“I almost fell, and luckily she caught me.”
Wang Ning explained helplessly.
Her heart was heavy.
She deeply regretted running her mouth earlier.
Wang Ning, go sit in the corner and reflect.
But Wang Yi didn’t believe her.
She tilted her head and looked at Glasseanne’s face.
A faint, fleeting trace of killing intent flashed across her heart.
Maybe…
Maybe her sister was right.
Even if others disagreed—
Even if that person was her—
Her sister was always right.
Always.
That was the first truth she had learned since she was little.
And the only one she had ever truly accepted.
She had once paid a heavy price for doubting it.
She had almost lost her sister.
That was a mistake she would never make again.
But the fact that her sister had said something like that—
Meant the other person must have done something wrong.
She followed the logic chain, and everything clicked into place.
Her expression brightened again.
She smiled sweetly at Glasseanne.
“Thank you for helping my sister.”
“If there’s anything you need, I’ll help you instead.”
“No need,” Glasseanne replied flatly.
“Your sister already agreed.”
“No need to trouble yourself.”
Wang Yi’s smile didn’t fade.
“It’s no trouble at all.”
“After all—she is my sister.”
“No matter what, it’s never too much trouble.”
Suddenly, an unfamiliar irritability rose in Glasseanne’s chest.
And along with it—confusion.
She didn’t understand what Wang Yi kept trying to emphasize.
Nor what there was to be so proud of in simply being a younger sister.
…Perhaps Wang Yi didn’t yet know.
Sibling relationships—these bonds of blood—were curses.
Born from the same womb, tied together by blood, but raised in brutal competition.
Grown like parasitic poisons, feeding off each other’s flesh while sinking their claws into each other’s throats.
All for selection.
All for the purity of lineage.
Even if the cost was a lifetime of pain.
But wasn’t that the mark of power?
This was the correct law of survival.
Disgusting. Twisted. But true.
Even if she herself was a mutant under that law—she still accepted it.
That was why she found the bond between Wang Ning and Wang Yi so strange.
She looked back at Wang Ning.
As the older sister, she should’ve held the dominant position.
But she showed no such control.
She even allowed her sister to overstep.
Then she suddenly realized—
Wang Ning was weak.
Glasseanne seemed to understand everything in a flash.
So that’s how it was.
Now she understood their actions.
A smile returned to her face.
She said lightly, “I see.”
“You’ve worked hard, Wang Ning.”
