Watching the two of them so close and affectionate, Karina couldn’t have been happier.
Lili and Letia, on the other hand, felt awkward. After exchanging a few sweet words, they both averted their gaze and buried themselves in the snacks.
Karina thought they were just shy and didn’t suspect anything.
“Grandma Karina!” Amy waved her arms excitedly. “I want cake too!”
“No, you’re still too little. Pound cake isn’t suitable for you.”
“Ugh, I’m not little anymore…” Amy pouted.
“Haha, this little one is so cute!” Karina laughed warmly. “Alright, I have some angel cake here, prepared especially for you.”
Angel cake was made from egg whites, low in sugar and fat, soft and delicious.
Karina carefully cut it into small pieces and fed Amy cautiously. Amy obediently opened her little mouth and savored the soft angel cake.
“By the way, when do you two want to have the wedding?”
Lili dropped her fork on the stone table, staring at Karina in shock, unsure of what to say. Letia was also flustered, but dared not speak to her mother. She gave Lili a pleading look, signaling her to stop Karina.
Lili wanted to intervene, but Karina looked so formidable!
“What are you two doing? Why such a big reaction?”
“I just thought, there’s no need to make it a big deal…”
“How can that be? You are our dragon clan’s bride. You must be formally married, carried in on a grand palanquin. I will invite friends and family from the dragon clan to witness your vows!”
Wait a minute, isn’t this public humiliation?
We aren’t even mutually in love, yet we have to make a public vow in front of all relatives?
Lili couldn’t help but imagine herself walking hand in hand with Letia down the hall.
Perhaps like an Eastern wedding: bowing to heaven, then parents, then the couple bows to each other?
I don’t want to bow to Letia as a spouse!
No, maybe a Western-style wedding?
“Miss Lili, do you take Letia as your lawfully wedded wife? In sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, will you never leave her?”
I don’t want to!—
Why?! Just being physically trained wasn’t enough, now a public wedding? How far are you going to humiliate me?!
Lili glared at Letia. This was all her fault. If she hadn’t taken advantage of an unconscious Lili, how would so many weird things have happened, and why would we be embarrassed in front of everyone?
Letia also cast a disdainful look. Her attitude was clear: Me and you? Heart to heart? A wedding ceremony? I might as well marry a wooden post!
In that moment, both reached a consensus: Absolutely no wedding ceremony!
“By the way, Lili, when is your birthday?”
“Hmm? December 24th…”
No sooner had Lili spoken than Karina produced a yellowed book from the void. It looked ancient, a museum-worthy artifact.
“December 24th? The Eve Festival?—Letia, that’s great! Every year, you get to skip a pre-festival gift?”
“Uh…” Letia answered awkwardly. “Mother, you must be joking…”
“But the goddess festival the next day, you must accompany Lili properly!”
After saying this, Karina began flipping through the ancient book. Lili craned her neck to peek and saw numerous birthdays listed.
“Curious?” Karina explained. “This book is for finding auspicious dates. Knowing both partners’ birthdays, you can find a suitable wedding day.”
“Uh, hmm…”
“This book was inherited from Letia’s grandmother. It’s old-fashioned now, but 3,000 years ago, birthday calculations were popular.”
“Hey…”
“Perfect, found it!” Karina clapped her thighs happily. “In twenty days, you’ll have an auspicious day. Hold your wedding then.”
“Th-That soon…”
“Fortune favors the bold. Don’t worry, twenty days is enough to invite friends and family. Ah, I can’t wait to show the dragon clan our Lili and granddaughter!”
“Well, um, Mother…” Lili hesitantly asked. “Can we skip the wedding? Just be in love with Letia…”
“How can that be?” Karina said firmly. “I must give you the proper status so the dragon clan knows you’re our formally wedded bride!”
“Uh… hmm… what you mean is…”
Lili gave up. Karina would never change her mind.
Rather than trying with Karina, she could plead with Letia to run away.
After all, Letia was experienced with running away, right?
Find a quiet place, wait twenty days, and the auspicious day passes. Although it would upset Karina, Lili truly didn’t want to marry Letia.
They were just two unrelated people, coincidentally physically involved. Why a wedding? Isn’t this public humiliation?
What if friends and family cheered for them to “kiss”?
What if guests wanted to witness Letia pushing Lili down on the bed?
No, absolutely not. Too embarrassing. Too disgusting. No way would she act lovey-dovey with Letia under scrutiny!
“Looks like time is tight. I must return to the Dragon God’s homeland to oversee matters.”
“When will Mother leave?” Letia asked.
“Probably tonight.”
“That’s perfect!” Letia beamed at Lili. Lili quickly realized: Once Karina leaves, Letia could attack her!
Lili would be pushed down, fully trained by Letia. Letia had already revealed what she planned. Just thinking about it made Lili shiver.
Why? I only let her massage my shoulders and prepare juice, why this predatory attack?!—At least let me get some revenge!
“Well, um, Mother…” Lili cautiously asked. “Could you stay a few more days, even just one more?”
“Haha, this little girl is so clingy,” Karina laughed. “After the wedding, you’ll live in the Dragon God’s homeland. We’ll see each other every day.”
“Uh, I didn’t mean that…”
“Lili, stop bothering Mother,”
Letia smirked at Lili, especially at her shy parts. Lili’s shoulders shook, tears in her eyes as she covered her chest.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you,” Letia licked her lips. “You’ll feel unimaginable happiness, experience incredible pleasure.”
“Ugh… I’m not letting you touch me!…”
“Haha, this little couple is flirting in front of me?” Karina laughed. “I’m not just preparing the wedding, I also need to calm a fox-girl. She seems to have fallen for Letia at first sight and wants to marry her.”
“Huh? When did I have anything to do with a fox-girl?”
“Apparently, 500 years ago, you saved an injured little fox.”
Letia frowned, closing her eyes to think, but had no clue. Too long ago, and not a memorable memory.
“The fox-girl seems very attached to you. If not handled properly, she might try to attack Lili.”
“Eh eh eh?” Lili’s face turned pale.
“Don’t worry, that will never happen.”
“Are you sure this isn’t a flag?”
“What, Froege?”
“No, nothing…” Lili whimpered. “Just don’t mention the fox-girl, for my sake, okay…”
