Join the ServerIn Z City, as evening descended, a high-end bar pulsed with a vibrant crowd of impeccably dressed, stylish young men and women.
The clientele here were almost uniformly affluent, making it the premier gathering spot for the city’s privileged scions.
Within a semi-enclosed circular space inside the bar, a red-haired youth, clad in a racing suit and high-top boots, was engrossed in a mobile game. His expression was meticulous, betraying not the slightest interest in the alluring young men and women gyrating on the dance floor.
Periodically, he would pause to take a sip from the cocktail on the round table. Beside him sat four other youths of similar age, clinking glasses and swaying to the rhythm of the bar’s lights and music.
One of them was Jin Bo, a good friend of the red-haired youth. After downing a glass, he promptly refilled it.
“Yuelun, aren’t you going to dance? Isn’t the whole point of coming here to have fun? What are you doing playing games?” Jin Bo called out to the red-haired youth in the corner.
Qiu Yuelun finished a round, took another sip of his drink, and lifted his untamed eyes. “No interest. It’s just a bunch of commoners writhing around up there; it’s quite disgusting to watch for too long. If the drinks weren’t decent here, I wouldn’t have even come.”
“Oh, come on! Besides racing, you only ever play games at home. As the esteemed son of Z City’s richest man, you should really socialize more with the young people in our circle!” Jin Bo urged.
“The richest man is my father; it has nothing to do with me. Don’t bring his title into this,” Qiu Yuelun retorted, narrowing his eyes against the uncomfortable glare of the lights. A hint of impatience flickered across his face.
“Alright, alright, I won’t mention your father. But it’s a fact that you’re a rich second generation, isn’t it? I’ve truly never seen any other rich kid around here as seemingly devoid of desires as you. I specifically arranged this gathering today because I wanted you to have a little more fun.”
Just as Jin Bo finished speaking, his phone vibrated. “Excuse me, I need to take a call outside.”
Qiu Yuelun cast a detached glance at the ‘commoners’ on the dance floor and simply hummed in response. “Mm.”
He, too, felt different from other wealthy scions. This circle was rife with self-interest, and rich kids indulged in all sorts of extravagant pleasures. He had witnessed plenty, including his own father, who was hardly clean, keeping mistresses outside; Qiu Yuelun couldn’t be bothered to intervene.
Perhaps it was a natural inclination towards cleanliness, but Qiu Yuelun disliked anything ‘dirty,’ be it objects or people.
After Jin Bo stepped out to answer his call, the surrounding wealthy young masters and ladies instantly swarmed Qiu Yuelun, offering him toasts and eager to connect. Who didn’t know he was the son of Qiu Guosheng, Z City’s richest man?
He frowned, annoyed by the attention. He simply let them scan his QR code, intending to block them all once he got home.
He genuinely disliked such complicated and insincere social interactions. Jin Bo was his only true friend, precisely because Jin Bo had never looked at him with greedy eyes. When they first met, Jin Bo hadn’t even known who his father was.
Yet, Jin Bo was quite different from him; he was the quintessential socialite in the rich second-generation circle, a master of networking who knew everyone, though he always adhered to his own principles.
Qiu Yuelun understood that he could sometimes be aloof and peculiar, with a temper that flared easily. Jin Bo simply wanted him to experience more of society and new things. He was willing to try making some changes, which was why he had come today.
As expected, the experience was much as he’d imagined — far from enjoyable. Amidst the dazzling lights and flowing alcohol, his ears were assaulted by noise. The scent of perfume mingled with alcohol, cheers blended with heavy metal music, and all he felt was a pounding headache.
Half an hour passed, and Jin Bo still hadn’t returned. Qiu Yuelun began to feel restless. Just as he was about to leave and investigate, he saw Jin Bo re-enter, waving and calling out, “Yuelun! I brought someone over!”
His gaze shifted, and indeed, a young man followed behind Jin Bo. The newcomer was dressed in a leather jacket, leather pants, and studded boots, with an unknown number of piercings in his ears, making his attire even more flamboyant than Qiu Yuelun’s. However, his complexion seemed a little sallow, with extremely heavy dark circles under his eyes, making him look almost sickly at first glance.
Jin Bo led the man into the circular sofa area and introduced him to everyone. “This is my little brother, Yu Wei. His family used to live in Z City, but they moved to Yunjing two years ago. Now, he’s attending university there.”
Upon hearing that he was from Yunjing, the people around eagerly stepped forward to introduce themselves. Qiu Yuelun, however, remained in his seat, unmoved. He had always had little interest in making new friends.
Yunjing was about a three-hour drive from Z City, not particularly far. He guessed Yu Wei had come to visit Jin Bo.
Jin Bo had countless friends, and Qiu Yuelun saw no need to get to know each and every one of them. Still, Jin Bo was always considerate of everyone.
“Yu Wei, this is my sworn brother I’ve told you about before, Qiu Yuelun, who’s incredibly skilled at racing,” Jin Bo introduced with a proud smile.
“Hello, hello. It’s a pleasure to meet you. As I imagined, Brother Lun is indeed very handsome,” Yu Wei said, forcing a smile onto his face.
This was largely because Qiu Yuelun was the most striking person in the entire venue. Not only due to his flamboyant red hair, but also because his looks and aura combined to exude a unique charm. Yu Wei felt his own presence being overshadowed. In the past, whenever he came to such bars, he was always the center of attention. But this was someone else’s territory, and he couldn’t afford to be so ostentatious.
“Yu Wei, if you hadn’t called me, I wouldn’t have known you were in Z City. Why did you suddenly come?” Jin Bo asked, puzzled.
“I… I got tangled up in a small matter back in Yunjing. Jin Bo, I’d like to stay with you for a while. Do you think that’s possible?” Yu Wei’s expression was troubled, and he hesitated to speak.
During this period, it was as if someone had deliberately made him do so. Several things happened. He became a laughingstock in the eyes of others. He couldn’t face going back to school, so he simply took a long leave of absence, temporarily leaving Yunjing to avoid the situation. In Z City, surely no one would know about his affairs, right? Thankfully, he still had Jin Bo, his younger brother, to rely on.
“You can stay, but I’m going to Yunjing to see my sister the day after tomorrow. I’ll give you the keys, and you can stay at my place alone. I’m just worried you’ll be bored. How about you come back to Yunjing with me?” Jin Bo asked with a laugh.
Yu Wei shook his head repeatedly, as if somewhat fearful. “No, no, thank you. I don’t mind being alone at your place. Which school did your sister get into in Yunjing?”
Jin Bo had a younger sister named Jin Shan, and he doted on her greatly.
“Shanshan is at Yunjing University of Media and Communication, in the broadcasting and hosting department. The day after tomorrow, their school is holding a cultural and arts festival, and they invited me to attend!” Jin Bo exclaimed excitedly.
Upon hearing the words ‘Yunjing University of Media,’ he instinctively thought of Jian Ye. The world was truly small. He wished he hadn’t been so impulsive that day in seeking out Jian Ye; now, Jian Ye had developed an adverse reaction to him and was unwilling to see him. He couldn’t just casually go looking for Jian Ye for now; he’d have to wait for another opportunity.
Yu Wei remained confident in himself. He didn’t believe Jian Ye completely disliked him now; Jian Ye was simply still reeling from the emotions of their breakup. Once he dealt with his exes and cleaned up his own relationships, he would return to openly pursue Jian Ye, and then Jian Ye would surely forgive him.
Later, the group chatted animatedly and drank many more glasses of wine. Perhaps it was the atmosphere, but the alcohol quickly went to Yu Wei’s head, and he instantly reverted to his old habit of acting like a boss in the Yunjing bars.
“Little Bo! Go… go get me some pretty young boys! Drinking like this is too… too boring, not fun!” Yu Wei slurred, his face flushed with intoxication.
Beside him, a few other wealthy young men who shared Yu Wei’s interests gave a lewd whistle.
“Young Master Yu, you’re into that too? How about I call some people over? Pick any type you like!” one of them offered.
Qiu Yuelun watched, a frown deepening on his face. He thought Jin Bo’s ‘little brother’ was not good at all; he disliked him. Jin Bo hadn’t realized Yu Wei had gotten so wild after moving to Yunjing. This kind of behavior wasn’t uncommon in the rich second-generation circle, but neither he nor Qiu Yuelun indulged in it.
Qiu Yuelun found it distasteful, while Jin Bo was a straight man who preferred refined, demure young ladies, and certainly looked down on those who sold themselves in such places.
Before long, five or six handsome young men arrived. They were all fresh-faced, youthful ‘white flowers,’ but their eyes carried a hint of flirtatiousness and seduction. Yu Wei looked them over one by one, yet none of them could fully replace Jian Ye.
He suddenly felt deflated, and his previous rejection fueled a surge of resentment. Emotionally overwhelmed, he blurted out, “None of you compare to him! You’re… you’re not like him at all! He was so wonderful, how could I… how could I have been so blind as to break up with him?”
Having drunk too much, Yu Wei was losing control. As he spoke, he even started to cry.
The people around him were stunned. What was happening?
Jin Bo stepped forward, pulling Yu Wei aside to comfort him. This comfort caused Yu Wei to completely let his guard down, and like spilling beans from a bamboo tube, he recounted everything that had happened to him in Yunjing.
Jin Bo listened, utterly shocked, and then summarized, “So, you broke up with an ex, but now you regret it? You went to find him, and he rejected you? And these past few days, you’ve been chased by other exes? So you’ve come to hide here with me? Is that right?”
Yu Wei pouted and nodded. “Now, I have no feelings for anyone else; I only want to be with him.”
Qiu Yuelun, who had remained silent until then, let out a sneer. Then, without reservation, he declared, “You’ve dated so many boyfriends; did you ever consider how sad those you broke up with would be?”
Yu Wei looked up, a little bewildered.
“You enjoyed yourself, but you never considered how your exes felt. It’s pure luck that they haven’t hated you or sought revenge,” Qiu Yuelun continued.
“Now you say you want to get back together. When you threw them away like trash, why didn’t I see you regret it then? It’s your damn fault they rejected you; there’s nothing to complain about. This is just the cycle of karma.”
Yu Wei finally realized he was being scolded. He felt a little angry, but his mind was still sluggish, and his words came out slowly: “Wh-what does it have to do with you?”
“It truly has nothing to do with me. It’s just that your thoughts and actions today disgust me. On one hand, you claim to like someone, and on the other, you come to Z City to have Jin Bo find you pretty boys. If you truly had any backbone, you wouldn’t be hiding in Z City. If you’ve made a mistake, face it. Don’t expect others to clean up the mess you’ve created.”
“The type of person I, Qiu Yuelun, despise the most in this life, is exactly you.” With that, the red-haired youth grabbed his jacket and strode out of the circular space.
“Hey! Yuelun! Wait!” Jin Bo saw him leave and quickly stood up to follow. Then, remembering the people still present, he turned back. “You all keep playing; just put it on my tab. And Yu Wei, can one of you take him to my villa later?”
“Alright, alright, don’t worry about us. We’ll make sure he’s taken care of. You go quickly find Young Master Qiu!”
Jin Bo thanked them and rushed out of the bar, where he saw Qiu Yuelun getting into his limited-edition McLaren racing car.
“Yuelun, don’t be angry…”
“I’m not angry,” Qiu Yuelun said coolly. “I never get angry at idiots.”
Jin Bo: “…”
“Are you coming or not?” The youth raised his right eyebrow, an arrogant air about him.
“Coming, coming! Give me a ride.”
