An Author’s Reflection and Future Plot Revelations

Chapter 37713 words6 min read

This novel has been in progress for quite some time. Due to my busy work schedule, updates haven’t been frequent, and I’m truly grateful to all readers who have stayed with it.

In a previous discussion, I outlined the general direction for the plot’s continuation. To my surprise, it’s still not finished, indicating that my pace has been somewhat slow. There are simply too many areas I wish to explore in detail, but the first major event should arrive quite soon.

I concede that my writing can be a bit verbose, and the story might lack dramatic twists. However, my intention is to craft precisely this kind of campus narrative, one centered on emotions and daily life, depicting the intricate relationships between people.

Let’s discuss some settings that haven’t yet appeared in the plot, and while they might not be crucial right now, they are likely to emerge later. Here, I’ll highlight a few key points:

1. First, Yi Chang’s parents have a notable age gap, with his father being older than his mother.

Despite this, his mother holds a higher position within the family. She is an ambitious woman, never content with the status quo, and boasts considerable social standing and a high income.

His father, on the other hand, is more of a free spirit, enjoying life at his own pace. Both of them were remarkably poor at parenting; combined, their efforts were disastrous.

The father constantly wished to teach his children various things, yet he himself knew nothing. Upon realizing this, he essentially gave up, delegating all educational responsibilities to the mother.

However, the mother was still young at the time, lacking extensive experience in raising children. She was prone to emotional outbursts, and with the added pressure of work, a child’s cry would send her into a frenzy.

Consequently, the children were eventually entrusted to relatives.

2. Secondly, Yi Chang’s family background is quite comfortable. His parents could afford the education, food, lodging, and travel for two children, as well as their own leisure activities.

While they undoubtedly loved their children, they also loved themselves. This often led them to weigh their own desires against their children’s needs, frequently choosing themselves.

Of course, this was only possible because the family never worried about basic necessities. When financial pressures arose, their money was almost exclusively spent on their children.

The family backgrounds of the other three characters were a cut above Yi Chang’s, with Yu Tianman’s being the most prominent. Dorothy and Mei Ruolan both came from families where their fathers had toiled for years in society, carving out official positions and becoming social elites.

Their lives were, therefore, exceedingly comfortable.

Yu Tianman, on the other hand, was a true young lady, a third-generation heiress. Her family might not be considered a market giant, but it was an old, well-established name, holding a pivotal position in the local market and possessing far greater wealth than ordinary people.

3. Thirdly, the story naturally draws inspiration from real-world settings, though it doesn’t adhere to them entirely. While some real names might appear, they are merely fleeting mentions.

Current wars and international situations are treated as if they never occurred within the narrative, for this is, after all, a campus story. It exists as another world, parallel to reality.

Many of the campus descriptions in the story are written from my own memories. However, for aspects like student interactions, conversation topics, and daily habits within the school, since I graduated many years ago, I had to consult current students.

To put it simply, I asked my own children, nieces, nephews, and cousins about how they spend their time and entertain themselves at school. I used their insights as a reference for the story, though because it’s not from personal experience, it might not always be perfectly accurate.

That concludes my brief remarks.

As a preview of the upcoming plot, I will first delve into a main storyline focusing on Mei Ruolan. Following that, there will be a chapter dedicated to Yu Tianman’s date, and then the Lolita boy character will make an appearance.

I’ll strive to complete this by the end of October. I genuinely hope everyone will share their thoughts, leave comments, and offer feedback, as it provides me with the motivation to keep writing.
