The Chosen One’s Fury and a Principal’s Shocking Discovery

Chapter 381,227 words11 min read

“The Archibishop and I conducted a surprise inspection of the Aiwen household.

Within a secret passage, we discovered Ellis Aiwen, who had already transformed into a living corpse.

Enraged, the Archibishop had the entire family apprehended.”

Lauren let out a whistle, a mocking glint in his eyes.

“I daresay this woman would never have imagined, not in a million years, that her demise would stem from making a little girl cry.”

Of the three, Collins, the only one who had previously met Yali, suddenly understood.

“Your sister?

I believe I recall her.

Was she the flaxen-haired girl with long hair, sitting in the living room the last time I visited your home?

So she’s your sister!”

Yodel scratched his head.

“The way you put it, is it truly so surprising that I have a sister?”

To his surprise, all three nodded in unison:

“Quite surprising.”

“Huh? Why?”

Lauren spread his hands, voicing his true thoughts.

“Well… I can’t quite pinpoint the exact reason, but it just feels like the identity of a Chosen One should be lofty and extraordinary.

For a Chosen One, second only to a true god, to get angry on behalf of a mortal sister, it just feels a bit incongruous.”

Yelica hissed, “Hmm… now that you mention it, I actually find it quite appealing.

A dignified demigod getting enraged to protect a frail younger sister, that sort of thing.”

Collins also offered his opinion.

“As for the topic of a sister, I’m not particularly concerned with that…”

Hearing a different perspective, everyone was immediately drawn to Collins’s words:

“From my observations, Mr. Finn, despite being a Chosen One, has always possessed a gentle disposition and a magnanimous spirit.

“When we first met, Lauren’s attitude towards Mr. Finn was less than ideal.

I, myself, nearly drew my pistol on him, and Ms. Cooper’s actions go without saying.

Yet, Mr. Finn never dwelled on these slights, nor did he ever seek retaliation.

“Why, then, would Mr. Finn specifically target this woman, Fuli?”

That question plunged Yodel into deep thought.

Indeed, why?

Since his transmigration, this marked the first time he had purposefully sought revenge against someone.

What had stirred such unprecedented malice within him?

It was Yali.

When it came to offenses against himself—be it Collins’s hostility, Lauren’s rudeness, or Yelica’s prying—Yodel could ultimately dismiss them with a laugh.

However, an insult directed at someone important to him? Yodel simply could not tolerate it!

Especially since Yali, as an ordinary girl, possessed no means to retaliate against such malice, and had even pleaded with Yodel not to get into trouble on her behalf.

Yet, this plea clearly backfired, greatly stimulating Yodel’s protective instincts and solidifying his resolve to strike back for Yali.

This was the reason for his revenge: to protect a loved one, to vent his anger on their behalf.

It was as simple as that.

Organizing his thoughts, Yodel voiced what was truly on his mind:

“I can accept offenses directed at me, for I am a Chosen One.

If I were to fly into a rage over the rudeness of strangers I’ve never even met, or worse, seek opportunities for revenge, do you believe that would align with the stature of a Chosen One?”

Upon hearing his answer, the three fell into pensive silence.

A moment later, Yelica clapped her hands.

“Perfect!

This completely aligns with my imagination of a Chosen One; this is precisely how a Chosen One should be!

Could it be that… this way of thinking is divinity itself?”

Yodel, however, remained unconvinced:

“Divinity?

I don’t think so.

I merely choose not to get angry on my own behalf, but if someone important to me is wronged, I will absolutely retaliate in kind.”

“To be able to brush off offenses against yourself, yet be willing to act for the suffering of others… Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Such enlightenment!

Have you truly never read the Chant Church’s doctrines?

“If you weren’t a Chosen One, I’d undoubtedly abduct you back to the church and convert you to the Holy Light.”

“Please don’t.

Our boss would absolutely kill both of us if you did.”

Retorting to Yelica’s jest, Yodel suddenly realized something crucial:

“I understand now…”

“Huh? What?” Yelica tilted her head.

“Actually, this isn’t the first time such an act of revenge has occurred.

A similar incident happened quite recently.” It dawned on him.

“???”

“Yelica, imagine yourself as Fuli, me as Yali, and then Thanatos as me.

Now, try to understand why Thanatos would cast a curse on you!”

Yelica’s eyes widened instantly:

“Are you saying She was getting angry on your behalf!”

“Precisely!

Given her personality, even if you pointed at her nose and called her an evil god, I doubt she’d get angry… At most, she’d just smile and call you a ‘Shabi’ (TL Note: A Chinese slang term, ‘shābī’, meaning ‘idiot’ or ‘dumbass’.), then continue with her work.”

Yelica now understood.

“But I invaded your memories, and in her eyes, that was me making things difficult for you, bullying you.

So, She flew into a rage and nearly killed me.”

Not only that, but even Yali’s plea had a corresponding element in the curse incident.

When Yodel was drafting the curse’s terms, he hadn’t actually added any harsh conditions.

They were simply secrecy, accepting the transaction, and acting as a bodyguard.

This was because Yodel felt Yelica’s subjective malice wasn’t particularly strong, and he didn’t want to punish her too severely.

However, this thought, much like Yali’s plea, had the opposite effect.

Thanatos became directly enraged.

She personally intervened, adding the clause: “Yelica must completely obey Yodel.”

With this new line of thought, Yodel felt he was vaguely grasping some of Thanatos’s true emotions.

‘Hmm… So, if that’s the case, could I just feign misery every day, stimulating Thanatos’s protective instincts to their absolute limit, thereby maxing out her favorability?’

‘Hmph… Forget it.

The mere thought of it feels too ‘tea-scented’ (TL Note: A Chinese slang term, ‘chá xiāng sì yì’, used to describe behavior that is overly manipulative, calculating, or feigned innocence, often with a negative connotation.), and that simply doesn’t align with Yodel’s style.’

The next morning, the old principal awoke and began his day with morning tea and the newspaper.

“Royal Family Visits Aranakan Peninsula Nations, Hopes to Ease Regional Tensions”

“Ancient Aiwen Family Linked to Cult? Chant Church Declares Full-Scale War on Eternal Life Society!”

The old principal promptly spat his tea onto the newspaper.

Beneath the bold headline “Ancient Aiwen Family Linked to Cult,” he had spotted a photograph of a heavily made-up woman being escorted by an inquisitor.

The photograph, a close-up of the woman’s panicked face, allowed the old principal to recognize Fuli Aiwen at first glance.

He removed his glasses, rubbed his eyes, then put them back on for another look.

It was confirmed: Fuli had been arrested.

Not only her, but the Aiwen family—one of the key backers of the anti-reform forces—was entirely ruined.

The old principal felt his throat go dry, and he swallowed hard.

“Yodel Finn, this is what you meant by ‘creating a bit of trouble’ for her?

“Who exactly is he?

I’ve cultivated influence in Langdon City for decades; what power could possibly exist that I’m unaware of?

How could such a young man suddenly appear?!”
