Chapter 38 : The Happiness of a Housekeeper

A day had passed since Ji-hye became my manager, or rather, my live-in maid.

Naturally, I didn’t stream yesterday, not because I was too lazy to explain things.

As a proper employer, I assigned Ji-hye a spare room and explained her future tasks.

I explained the household chores she would need to do and the tasks related to my ‘broadcasting’.

The contract had specific clauses about broadcasting, and Ji-hye was aware of them, so the explanation was quick.

After the explanation, I drafted a separate ‘Non-Disclosure Agreement’.

Ji-hye couldn’t reveal that ‘Choi Na-yeon’ was ‘Barcode’.

She also couldn’t leak any personal information about me.

It was a typical NDA filled with such clauses.

Ji-hye reviewed the NDA and signed it without hesitation.

Although I had already explained the two contracts, I thought it would be good to confirm everything again, so I explained once more.

“Really, that’s all I have to do?”

Ji-hye looked at me with a grateful expression after hearing my explanation.

Her sparkling eyes made it seem like she thought of me as a benefactor, which was quite overwhelming.

‘But won’t it be too hard for her?’

I had given Ji-hye more tasks than I thought.

She had to do all the household chores alone.

She had to prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks by herself.

She even had to do the grocery shopping alone.

Of course, I would cover all the costs for the meals.

I couldn’t make her pay for groceries out of her own pocket while giving her so many tasks.

Considering my intense dislike for inconvenience, these tasks seemed difficult to me.

Despite being given such challenging tasks in bulk, Ji-hye expressed gratitude towards me.

Although difficult by my standards, these tasks were relatively easy compared to others.

I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of work she had done previously to be so thankful for such a workload.

I refrained from asking about her personal circumstances, thinking it would be rude.

‘If she works diligently, I should consider giving her a raise later.’

I had already transferred her monthly salary of 5 million won.

If she proved to be diligent, I could consider increasing her salary further.

Too much strictness might have the opposite effect.

Still, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction, thinking I was a good employer.

“Bunnie! If you need anything, just call me!”

“Uh, okay. But don’t get too close.”

“Oh! I’m just so happy, I didn’t realize!”

We had agreed to drop the formal speech during the contract renewal.

However, speaking informally still felt awkward for me.

I had always spoken formally.

“Oh, I do have something for you to do later.”

“Anything! Should I do video editing?”

“Huh? You can edit videos?”

“Oh, I can do a little.”

Knowing she could edit videos was surprising, but it wasn’t a skill I needed immediately.

What I needed right now was someone to manage the chatroom.

“Do you know what a broadcast manager does?”

“Yes, they manage the chatroom, right?”

“Yes, you just need to manage the chatroom while I’m streaming.”

“I’ve never been a broadcast manager before… Can I do it well?”

“Don’t worry. I’ve arranged for two experienced managers to train you.”

“Two?”

Ji-hye questioned in disbelief.

It was understandable.

Why get trained by two people just to manage a chatroom?

In reality, most broadcast managers manage chatrooms without any training.

However, the chatroom Ji-hye would be managing was filled with troublemakers from my stream.

She needed to become a manager capable of handling such a chatroom.

This was why I enlisted the help of the longest-serving managers from the ‘Curry Room’, who had experience dealing with these issues.

There were more commands and functions a manager needed to know than she might think.

Those two could certainly turn Ji-hye, who was a blank slate, into an excellent manager.

Ding dong~

Hearing the doorbell, I stood up.

Ji-hye, who had been drinking tea, also got up and followed me.

Checking the intercom, it seemed the furniture I ordered yesterday had arrived.

I opened the door and quietly spoke to Ji-hye, who was standing dazedly behind me.

“Show them to your room.”

“What? Bunnie, are all those things…”

“Yes? Oh, it’s just employee welfare.”

‘…All of that, just for employee welfare?’

Leaving Ji-hye, who was in shock, I went upstairs.

‘Is it that surprising?’

Since it was my first time having a manager, I simply bought a bed, a chair, a computer, and a few decorative pieces as part of employee welfare.

Buying cheap items wouldn’t last long, and they wouldn’t match the house I lived in.

Of course, I owned the items, but Ji-hye would be using them while working for me.

“Proper welfare services enhance employee performance,” they said.

Honestly, I expected her to either be happy or pleased.

Was she surprised because the welfare wasn’t good enough? Or was it the opposite?

I decided to ask later and turned on my computer to log into LoL as usual.

After a large furniture moving operation,

her once-empty room was now filled with luxurious furniture.

It was so beautiful.

In a state where she couldn’t tell if it was a dream, reality, or the afterlife,

Ji-hye’s gaze moved to the large bed.

A pristine white bed that made one sleepy just by looking at it.

“Can someone like me really…”

Should I lie down on such a bed?

As memories of difficult days dealing with family and university problems crossed her mind,

Ji-hye wiped her tears with her sleeve and slowly moved forward.

Standing in front of the bed, she cautiously reached out.

Her hand sank into the soft mattress without much effort.

If she lay on such a soft and cozy bed, she would fall asleep instantly.

Since she still had work to do, Ji-hye couldn’t bring herself to lie down just yet.

Determined, Ji-hye thought about her schedule.

First, she would clean this room, where most of the  dust had accumulated during the furniture move.

Next, she would clean the living room and hallways, and then sweep the front yard, which had become dirty from the truck.

After finishing the cleaning, she would make lunch for mistress and connect the computer to receive training from the instructors Barcode mentioned.

With her schedule in mind, Ji-hye started her tasks without taking a break.

Though there were tear stains on her cheeks, a happier smile than ever adorned her face.

“Good job today.”

“You too, Jericho.”

Our scrim match, held earlier than usual, had ended.

Jericho, the last one in the call, bid farewell.

I also greeted Jericho and was about to leave the call when,

“If you’re having a tough time, feel free to reach out.”

“What? Oh…”

Jericho’s sudden words reminded me of the incident from a week ago.

Ever since that incident, I had felt particularly cared for during scrims, as if all the team members were worried about me.

This wasn’t just a temporary team gathered for a purpose but a genuine team that cared for each other.

“Ha.”

That thought made me laugh involuntarily.

“I’ll definitely reach out if I need to.”

“That laugh just made my worries feel foolish.”

“Oh, come on, I wouldn’t do that.”

Beep-

I left the call without waiting for Jericho’s response.

Although I hadn’t been streaming diligently, I had actively participated in the scrims.

Team games offered a different kind of fun compared to solo ranked games.

Of course, it wasn’t as fun as sniping Curry, but it was still enjoyable.

If I were to rank the fun activities, it would be [Sniping Curry > Sniping > Scrims > Streaming > Solo Queue]. I never imagined that the solo queue I played the most would become the least enjoyable.

After securing victory by carrying today’s scrim, I stood up. I wanted to stream again, but first, I needed to check on Ji-hye’s manager training progress.

When I went downstairs, I saw a living room so clean that there wasn’t a speck of dust, and I quietly admired it.

Since I usually didn’t keep it tidy, dust often accumulated on the living room floor and window sills, but everything was spotless now.

I moved past the clean living room to Ji-hye’s room.

Knock knock-

I knocked, but there was no response.

Was she in the middle of manager training?

Just in case, I knocked again and waited for a moment.

But there was still no response from inside.

Not wanting to wait any longer, I opened the door.

Immediately, I saw Ji-hye sound asleep beyond the door.

Inside the room, the computer was left on.

On the desk with the computer were a notebook and a pen.

When I opened the notebook, I found notes on broadcasting.

Various commands, chat management techniques for different situations, and so on.

It seemed she had written down everything she learned from the two managers.

She must have fallen asleep while reviewing the training and waiting for me.

I put the notebook back on the desk.

I turned off the computer and the room light.

Then, I quietly left the room and gently closed the door.
