Feng Yan’s Unexpected Visit

Chapter 391,383 words12 min read

The dim yellow light illuminated the entrance of the residential complex.

A small bus pulled over, and three figures, visibly weary, stepped out.

“My butt feels like it’s been flattened,” Chen Zeyu grumbled, rubbing her backside.

A box of eggs, a gift from her grandma, hung from her arm.

“I never want to sit on a hard seat again,” Evetti sighed, leaning against the wall.

Even straightening her back felt like an insurmountable task.

“I’m heading back to the company now.”

“I’ll report your grandma’s situation, just wanted to let you know,” Lammiell said as she passed Chen Zeyu, seemingly searching for a secluded spot to cast a spell and depart swiftly.

“Wait, Lammiell! You’re not going to team up with the company to deal with my grandma, are you?” Chen Zeyu quickly pressed.

“We are powerless against her, that’s the truth.”

“Since she wishes to live in peace, we will also strive to avoid conflict.”

“Peaceful coexistence is the best approach, provided she doesn’t seek trouble first.”

Lammiell’s meaning was quite clear: as long as Chen Zeyu’s grandma made no dangerous moves, they would not intervene.

“Then I can rest easy.”

“Good, I’m off.”

“Both of you prepare your schedules for tomorrow, settle things at school, and remember, summer vacation is almost here.”

“What does that have to do with summer vacation?”

“Because you’ll have to make a trip back to Witch Village.”

“A witch should, after all, have some knowledge of her ancestral home, shouldn’t she?” Lammiell chuckled.

“Ah… I understand.”

“Good that you do. I’m leaving now.”

Lammiell darted into a corner of the bushes, and then a great gust of wind erupted, carrying her away in the direction of the company.

Beep beep.

Evetti’s phone received a message.

She glanced down at it, her expression quickly shifting to surprise before she nudged Chen Zeyu with her elbow.

“Feng Yan needs to talk to you.”

“Feng Yan?”

“Here, look.”

“Huh? Home visit… tutoring?”

“She’s coming to our house right away? What on earth?”

Chen Zeyu was utterly bewildered.

What did Feng Yan mean by tutoring? Hadn’t they already taken leave?

Beep beep beep—

Feng Yan’s video call came through.

Evetti looked at Chen Zeyu, who nodded, indicating she could answer.

Evetti pressed the button, and the screen displayed a panting Feng Yan.

“Chen Yuqing… Chen Yunyao, where exactly do you live? I can’t seem to find it.”

“Huh, the South Gate? Aren’t you there?”

Chen Zeyu looked back at the main gate, thinking such a prominent spot should be easy to find.

“South Gate? That’s strange, I’m definitely on the south side.”

Feng Yan’s face was filled with confusion, her hair damp with sweat.

She simply couldn’t locate the South Gate of Huajin Mansion.

Evetti gazed at the main gate behind them, suddenly recalling something crucial.

The building where the witches resided was protected by a spell that warded off ordinary people, making it impossible for those with poor directional sense to find their way in.

“We’ll come pick you up right away. Hanging up now!” Evetti called out to Feng Yan.

“Oh, okay! I’ll wait for you by the roadside.” Feng Yan’s face lit up with relief.

“Should… should we both go?” Chen Zeyu glanced at the large bags scattered on the ground.

These were all items Grandma had insisted they bring.

“How about this: you go get Feng Yan, and I’ll take these things upstairs.”

“Remember, you absolutely must envelop Feng Yan with your magic.”

“That’s the only way to shield her from the spell’s influence on ordinary people.”

“Our house is set with a spell? I never even noticed.” Chen Zeyu had been completely oblivious to the enchantment.

“Your magical perception is still developing.”

“Now, hurry and get Feng Yan, and clarify this tutoring situation with her.”

Evetti handed the phone to Chen Zeyu, then picked up the bags and hurried upstairs.

Minutes later.

Feng Yan, resting on the sidewalk, looked around.

Suddenly, she spotted Chen Yuqing running out of the residential complex.

“Chen Yuqing! I’m over here!”

Feng Yan stood up, waving and calling out.

Chen Zeyu saw her and quickly ran over.

“Feng Yan, what’s this about tutoring? And why did you specifically come to my place?”

Chen Zeyu noticed Feng Yan was quite drenched in sweat, a clear sign she had been searching for a long time.

“I’m here to tutor you two!”

“Our homeroom teacher was worried you might fall behind in class, and asked if any classmates could help.”

“So, I volunteered!”

Feng Yan pushed her bangs back, wiping sweat from her brow with her arm.

Sparkling beads of sweat highlighted her somewhat naive yet enthusiastic smile.

“You really don’t have to go to such lengths.”

“We’ve only missed a few days, it won’t affect us too much,” Chen Zeyu said, feeling Feng Yan was overly zealous, especially since they hadn’t known each other long, their connection barely extending beyond occasional chats.

“You can’t think that way, sister!”

“We’re all in this together.”

“If you miss something important and mess up on a test, that would be terrible! Let me help you out,” Feng Yan said with a cheerful smile, making it hard to refuse.

“Alright then, come with me.”

“The entrance to the complex is indeed a bit obscure and hard to find.”

Chen Zeyu turned around, silently following Evetti’s instructions, releasing a faint wisp of magic from her palm.

“Hey, thanks!”

Feng Yan hugged her small blue shoulder bag, which seemed heavy with many notebooks.

From the corner of her eye, Chen Zeyu noticed Feng Yan’s sweat-soaked white T-shirt.

She was also wearing a light yellow knee-length skirt.

Feng Yan didn’t have to get involved in their trouble, yet she was willing to think of a stranger.

‘There are still good people in the world,’ Chen Zeyu thought.

‘I’ll discuss it with Evetti and invite her to stay for dinner.’

Chen Zeyu made up her mind and led Feng Yan into the complex.

They took the elevator and entered the apartment.

Feng Yan finally saw the true appearance of Chen Yuqing’s home.

It was a beautiful, cozy environment, with a feeling of a natural forest.

“Feng Yan, you’re here!”

“Feel free to sit anywhere, and there are some snacks on the table you can help yourself to,” Evetti said, bustling about in a pink apron, like a busy housewife entertaining guests.

“Let me pour you some water.”

“Would you like cool boiled water or a drink?”

Chen Zeyu went to the cupboard to grab paper cups, then took a drink and a kettle from a small shelf.

“Cool boiled water is fine, thank you.”

Before Feng Yan’s bottom had even warmed the seat, she noticed that the Chen sisters were calmly and orderly hosting her, as if they were the true mistresses of the house.

‘Where are their parents?’ Feng Yan wondered. ‘Why is there no sign of adults?’

Curiosity piqued, she saw Chen Zeyu pouring the cool boiled water and asked, “Are your parents not home?”

“Uh… they’re always on business trips, so it’s usually just the two of us at home,” Chen Zeyu fabricated a lie.

“Ah, so you handle everything yourselves: food, clothing, housing, and transportation?” Feng Yan looked slightly astonished.

“Something like that.”

“Actually, Evetti… I mean, my sister, handles most of it. I just do small things,” Chen Zeyu almost slipped up.

“Your ‘Evie’? Is that your pet name for her?” Feng Yan asked, mishearing the key part.

“Uh, just assume that’s it,” Chen Zeyu turned her face away.

“It’s not a bad thing for sisters to have a good relationship!”

“I even wish I had a younger sister to look after,” Feng Yan chuckled, then pulled out a stack of notebooks from her bag.

“Are these all for tutoring?” Chen Zeyu’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“Yes, they are.”

“You also have a formula dictation tomorrow in class, so you absolutely must memorize them tonight,” Feng Yan said, a hint of resignation in her voice.
