Inside Gucheng Kangda Hospital, Nurse Jiang Ting was on her usual night shift.
Not a single ambulance had been dispatched from the emergency entrance, suggesting a slightly less hectic evening.
Jiang Ting removed her nurse’s cap, neatly pinned up her hair, and prepared to close her eyes for a brief moment of relaxation at the front desk.
Thump, thump, thump!
A flurry of hurried footsteps echoed, and Jiang Ting’s recently closed eyes snapped open instantly.
She looked towards the source of the noise with a sigh of resignation, but in the next moment, her brows shot up in surprise.
“Doctor! Quick, save her!”
Chen Zeyu cried out.
She and Evetti Flann carried a pale, white-clad girl through the entrance.
All three of their clothes were stained with blood, though the girl’s garments bore the most.
‘How could two small children bring in an older child for treatment?’
‘And that older child looks to be in critical condition!’
“Resuscitation Team Three! Report to the emergency entrance immediately!”
Jiang Ting unclipped the walkie-talkie from her chest and called out.
“Received!” The reply came instantly through the intercom.
Jiang Ting quickly left the front desk, rushing to Chen Zeyu’s side.
Seeing the two younger girls struggling with the older one, she quickly lent a hand, inquiring about the situation.
“What happened to her? Why are you all covered in blood!”
“She slit her wrists!”
“She lost so much blood! We had no choice but to carry her here when we found her!” Chen Zeyu quickly explained.
“Good heavens! Why are so many young people so desperate these days!” Jiang Ting exclaimed indignantly, yet she immediately began to assess the girl’s condition.
She was still breathing, and the bandaging on her wounds was decent.
Her body temperature was relatively normal, but her face was alarmingly pale from excessive blood loss.
Click, click, click!
Three doctors in white coats rushed down the distant corridor, pushing a resuscitation bed.
They swiftly reached Jiang Ting, who quickly briefed them.
The doctors carefully transferred the white-clad girl onto the bed, then rapidly pushed her into the nearest emergency room.
The red light of the emergency room illuminated, signifying that the girl’s life was now in the hands of the medical team.
Chen Zeyu and Evetti Flann sat on the chairs outside the emergency room, exchanging bewildered glances.
They found the sudden turn of events almost impossible to believe.
If the white-clad girl was Yang Liying, then her ordeal was precisely as Feng Yan had described.
Sun Baihai was truly a ruthless individual, and his network of connections and influence was vast.
Chen Zeyu lowered her head, clenching her hands into fists.
She couldn’t fathom that Yang Liying had been tormented to the point of attempting to end her own life.
What methods had Sun Baihai used to drive a former campus beauty to such a desperate state?
Just as Chen Zeyu was deeply immersed in her thoughts, Nurse Jiang Ting approached with a clipboard.
“Little ones, are you her family?”
“No, we’re her schoolmates.”
“We happened to be looking for her today, and that’s when we found her like this.”
Evetti Flann answered first.
Noticing Chen Zeyu was lost in thought, she took the initiative to speak, hoping to avoid any unnecessary complications.
“You’re her schoolmates?”
“Then you must have heard something about that girl’s situation, haven’t you?”
Nurse Jiang Ting’s tone shifted, implying she knew more about the girl’s background.
“Nurse, is her name Yang Liying?” Evetti Flann continued to ask.
“Yes, it is.”
“I often heard that name mentioned by my colleagues.”
“I never expected that after only a few months, she would be brought in by you two.”
“Ah, it’s truly a pity!”
Jiang Ting sighed helplessly, her voice laced with sorrow for the girl.
“Nurse, has something happened to Yang Liying?”
“We want to know, that’s why we went to her house in the first place.”
Evetti Flann stood up from her chair, her expression one of genuine concern.
“This matter… it truly makes one curse fate’s injustice, that such an unfortunate child would encounter that brute from the Sun family!”
“He’s a beast among beasts!”
Jiang Ting gnashed her teeth, slamming her fist down as if she harbored deep hatred for the Sun family.
‘A brute? That must be an adjective.’
Chen Zeyu noticed Evetti Flann looking puzzled, realizing that as a born witch, Evetti might have a blind spot regarding the meaning of ‘brute’.
“Nurse, is that brute named Sun Baihai?” Chen Zeyu stood up and asked.
“It’s him!”
“I know quite a lot about the things he does in private.”
“My nephew was beaten by him, and in the end, he wasn’t even sentenced!”
“It was dismissed as a civil settlement for a brawl!”
“How could I not know the standard for minor injuries? The whole system is a mess!”
Jiang Ting finished venting her frustrations.
She then looked at the two young girls before her, suddenly realizing her language had been quite coarse.
She wondered if it might negatively affect their innocent minds.
“You two children shouldn’t repeat what I just said.”
“Those are bad words, you mustn’t learn them.”
Jiang Ting bent down, smiling, seemingly trying to salvage her image as a crude nurse in Chen Zeyu and Evetti Flann’s eyes.
“Mhm, Nurse, we’ll be polite and well-mannered.” Chen Zeyu nodded, her face feigning innocent ignorance.
“Nurse, do you know what Sun Baihai did to Yang Liying? We want to help her.”
Evetti Flann glanced at the emergency room, the situation inside appearing far from optimistic.
“You want to help Yang Liying?”
“This matter isn’t easy, you know.”
“From what I understand, this child, Yang Liying, has developed a bit of a problem here.”
Jiang Ting tapped her own head, making it clear she was referring to a mental illness.
“Then at least tell us about the wicked things Sun Baihai did!”
“If we get evidence, we’ll definitely take him down!”
Chen Zeyu declared, righteous indignation burning in her voice.
“Yes, we cannot tolerate such a person walking freely on the streets. The law will not permit it.”
A hint of anger involuntarily crept into Evetti Flann’s words.
“Sigh… what can two children like you do?”
“That brute can even manipulate the courts. Is there anything he can’t do?”
“You two should just focus on your studies and put this out of your minds.”
Jiang Ting didn’t believe the two silver-haired children before her could accomplish anything monumental.
Unless they were the children of high-ranking government officials, capable of fearlessly exposing all hidden truths, which involved a tangled web of interests.
Seeing the nurse’s ‘less trouble is better’ attitude, Chen Zeyu quickly tried to find a way to get more information.
After all, this concerned her own future, and she couldn’t afford to delay!
“Nurse, please, please tell me~ I really, really want to know.”
Chen Zeyu tilted her head, putting on an incredibly adorable voice.
She widened her eyes, clasping her hands together like kitten paws, effectively showering the nurse with cuteness.
The nurse’s heart was struck by an intense wave of cuteness!
Her heart fluttered!
‘Oh my god, what kind of adorable creature is this!’
‘Silver hair and red eyes are truly a special attack on us Chinese people!’
The nurse couldn’t help but waver.
She desperately wanted to hug the girl in front of her, but adult propriety prevented her.
“Alright, fine, I’ll tell you, just because you’re so adorable.”
The nurse patted Chen Zeyu’s head with a warm smile.
Chen Zeyu turned her face, secretly grinning at Evetti Flann.
‘You really have a knack for this. I admire your ability to pull that off.’
Evetti Flann silently gave a thumbs-up.
If it were her, she definitely couldn’t act so cutesy.
It would be too embarrassing for a dignified witch!
If a picture of her doing that ever got out, she’d be too mortified to show her face for centuries.
