Chapter 42 Part 3: Awesome Army

Amy picked up the head of the iron doll that had fallen to the floor and put it back in its original place.

The creaking sound coming from the iron doll was shaking as if it didn’t fit properly.

Amy hit the creaking head of the iron doll with her fist.

Due to the impact, the crushed head seemed to be firmly fixed to the body and did not shake anymore.

Only then was I able to examine the doll’s body in detail.

The shape of the fists flying from all directions was still intact on the iron doll’s body.

It looked pitiful.

“Wow….”

If Amy were to hit me with a punch, it didn’t seem like it would end with just a bump.

I unconsciously touched my head and turned around to sit down.

“Victor.”

“Why?”

“What is Amy’s ability?”

“I don’t know either.”

Victor answered as if he was annoyed.

However, he didn’t seem to be lying.

I understood what he meant.

There were so many people with abilities in the world.

It was virtually impossible to categorize all of their abilities.

“He probably doesn’t know what it is.”

Victor added softly.

He said while creating an electric field in his hand.

“Anyway, both of you complete the flow.”

I nodded.

I could tell because the electric current flowing through Victor’s hand felt familiar, almost friendly.

“Until this is completed, no playing ball.”

“Ouch!”

I stood up from my seat in surprise.

I can’t play ball?

Shine, who was sitting next to me, seemed shocked as well, and her gaze wavered.

“If you want to play, do your best.”

Victor said that and fixed his gaze on the desk.

It seemed impossible to continue talking.

I looked back at Amy with a sad face.

Amy, who was drinking water from a water bottle, only gave me an awkward smile.

“Ha!”

I sighed and raised my hand.

That’s it.

I started to reproduce the flow that Victor had just shown me.

The blue electric field spread across my hand.

The blue lines stretched out in all directions.

My hair stood on end.

I stopped here earlier.

Blue light flows out in a steady rhythm, jumping around wildly.

Lights bouncing in the air.

Blue lines that were jumping around in all directions begin to converge.

However, they soon get out of control.

Since I had never tried such a small and delicate operation before, I lacked the knack.

“Profit!”

I gritted my teeth and pulled out my ability even further.

If it was small, I would make it bigger, and then bigger, and then I would figure out the trick from there.

The current field that extended from my hand grew in size and covered my body.

The current field that stretched out like a round sphere.

I controlled the flow that was spreading out in all directions.

In this way, the lines that were running wild gathered into one.

“A little smaller.”

I started to reduce the size of the current field as Victor said.

My hair that was swaying calmly settled down, and the current that was covering my entire body gathered into my hand.

Snap-!

Immediately after that, a blue current suddenly shot out.

The current that stretched out in a straight line toward the empty space hit the fluorescent light hanging from the ceiling.

“Huh?”

The ceiling was blackened.

The current that shot out from my hand snatched away the light from the brightly shining fluorescent light.

The room became dark in an instant.

I frowned.

It was too difficult.

Victor, as if he was used to it, took out a fluorescent light from the corner storage and started to change it.

I sat on the chair, slumped, and fidgeted with my hands.

“No one is good at starting out.”

Victor spoke as he climbed up the ladder to change the fluorescent light.

How did he know that I was gloomy, without even giving me a glance?

I could tell that Victor’s personality was indifferent, but he was also quite meticulous about the people around him.

“Victor is kind.”

When I looked up at him and said, Victor’s movements suddenly stopped.

Victor didn’t speak anymore.

He came down from the ladder and cleaned up the ladder with my annoyed expression.

The tips of his ears that I could see were red.

“Can’t we play ball today?”

Shine, who was sitting next to me, asked me.

I nodded weakly.

If I don’t finish this, I can’t play.

I looked at the electric field fluctuating here and there above my hand and opened my mouth wide.

It was so suffocating, like my chin being choked.

“Shine, don’t you practice?”

I said, blowing out the air from my puffy cheeks.

Shine questioned my question.

“Practice?”

“Yeah”

“Jeff Look here.”

Shine raised her hand to me.

Her hand shook slightly, distracting my gaze and making me lose my mind.

Shine’s hand, at the end of her shaking gaze, approached me quietly.

“I succeeded.”

I nodded at the hand gently stroking my cheek.

Immediately after that, scenes passed by.

The blue electric field spread across Shine’s hand was vividly imprinted on my mind.

“Ugh…”

“If Jeff succeeds, it’s over.”

I frowned at her words.

There was nothing.

Studying, ability.

Everything was difficult.

In comparison, Shine solved problems so easily.

I was better at them than her.

“Yeah…”

“It’s okay, Jeff”

As if comforting me, her soft hand continued.

“What? Shine has already succeeded?”

At that moment, Amy, who was drinking water behind me, approached me and asked.

Shine and I nodded.

“Amy….”

“Jeff still?”

“Yes….”

“Why are you so depressed?”

Amy smiled and stroked my head.

Her gaze shook from side to side.

I closed my eyes, not rejecting the feeling of Amy’s hand on my head.

“Ugh… But it’s too hard.”

I muttered as if whining.

It’s too hard.

It was too much for me.

“I’ll help you,” Shine whispered.

She grabbed my arm and pulled my body towards her.

I didn’t resist her gentle touch and was dragged into her arms.

It felt a little empty that Amy’s touch on my head had disappeared.

Shine’s hand gently stroked my hair as if to fill that empty space.

“How?”

“Like this.”

The hand that was stroking my hair moved gently and grabbed my arm.

The hand that slowly and gently came down, sliding down, began to wrap around the back of my hand.

The warm warmth that penetrated between my fingers gave me goosebumps.

I wiggled my toes for no reason.

A tingling sensation rose up in a corner of my chest.

“Ugh…”

The breath that touched my back tickled my cheek.

“Concentrate.”

“Uh… Where?”

“Here at your fingertips.”

I followed her words.

Crackle

Blue current burst from my fingertips.

A rough movement, completely different from before, continued.

I was startled and tried to pull away, but Shine, who was holding my arm, didn’t move.

“It’s okay.”

A soft voice continued as if to calm me down.

The warmth I felt from behind my back relieved my tension.

My stiff body relaxed gently.

The current that had been raging like an angry bull also calmed down.

Following the sound of breathing in my ear, the movement changed smoothly.

Smaller, smaller.

The current blooming on my hand changed to the same appearance that Victor had shown.

“Like this.”

The blue current no longer tried to fly out in all directions.

It repeated a certain movement as if walking on a well-paved road, and its appearance seemed to have stopped.

“Wow…”

I opened my mouth with sparkling eyes.

Shine smiled slightly as she watched me like that.

Immediately after, her hand slowly moved away.

The soft warmth that had penetrated between my fingers slowly escaped.

I looked back at her with an anxious face.

“Jeff. Focus.”

The current blooming on my fingertips began to show an incongruous movement as if responding to my emotions.

But Shine’s voice continued.

I nodded, concentrating on her voice.

Scratch-!

But the blue current did not listen to me.

It frowned at the angry movements spreading out in all directions.

“Shine…”

When I turned to Shine while sobbing, she smiled brightly and grabbed my hand once more.

The warmth that had disappeared returned.

A faint smile appeared at that warmth.

The anxiety disappeared in an instant.

As if responding to my emotions, the blue current immediately calmed down.

“It’s okay now.”

It’s okay now.

I felt like I could do anything if I was with her.

“What. Are you done already?”

At that moment, Victor, who had returned from putting the ladder in the storage room, spoke while looking at my hand.

He blinked with a bewildered expression.

“Yes!”

I held out my hand with a confident expression.

“You two did it together?”

“Then it wouldn’t work…?”

“Um…”

Victor folded his arms and sank into his chair at my question.

“Of course I should have done it alone.”

At Victor’s words, Shine’s hand slowly pulled away.

When I looked back at her with anxious eyes, she nodded silently.

It was as if she was telling me to trust myself.

As Shine’s hand dropped and her body that had been touching my back moved away, the blue current flowing over her hand shook uneasily.

I raised my hand with anxious eyes.

I concentrated as much as I could, and created the same flow as before.

A subtle shaking movement.

However, like before, there was no movement that was wildly flying in all directions.

“Good.”

Victor nodded.

I let out a sigh of relief at his affirmation and let my concentration drift away.

Blue currents scattered in all directions.

Blue lines that disappeared leaving afterimages decorated the air.

“Can we play ball now?”

“Yes. Go play.”

Victor nodded at Shine’s question.

She immediately grabbed my arm and started running to the corner.

However, her face soon turned to disappointment.

There was a ball in the corner.

The problem was that it was a basketball.

Shine, who had a disappointed expression on her face at the hard texture of the ball, threw the basketball with all her might.

“It’s too hard!”

Knock knock-

The basketball bounced slightly and rolled, hitting the wall and coming back.

I picked up the basketball she had thrown.

It felt quite heavy.

And the texture was hard.

It didn’t look suitable for Shine and me to play with.

“Victor! Do you have any other balls!?”

“I have them in the storage, look for them.”

Victor and Amy seemed to be talking about something important.

They were talking while touching the documents spread out on the desk with their hands.

It didn’t seem like a situation where I could come all the way to the warehouse to find the ball.

With my small and weak body, I couldn’t play with this ball properly.

If I kicked it like I was playing soccer, my ankle would go out.

If I played basketball, my fingers would break.

It was quite a scary ball.

I threw the basketball away with a disgusted expression.

As Victor had said, there were many kinds of balls in the warehouse.

Baseballs, soccer balls.

And even bowling balls.

Shine looked at the baseball and bowling balls, which were harder than the basketballs from before, and said, “These aren’t balls.”

As expected, the one Shine chose was a soft rubber ball.

A rubber ball with an attractive color like a red apple.

Shine smiled brightly and ran outside holding the rubber ball.
