A Complete Misunderstanding.
After the misunderstanding was cleared up, Sophia bit her lip and looked away from the girl standing beside Wang Ning. Even though she was reluctant, she still forced out a grudging “Sorry.”
Then, she heard the murmurs from the surrounding crowd.
“Ha, look how unwilling she is. With such a half-hearted apology, won’t the Angel-sama start disliking her?”
“Definitely. I mean, with that aggressive attitude, even I find her annoying.”
“Tsk, typical nobility behavior. Anyway, the one being wronged was just a commoner. It’s already ‘gracious’ of her to stoop down and apologize.” said a girl casually.
“As if you’re not a noble yourself…”
“So what? Doesn’t stop me from being a hypocrite.”
Wang Ning, one of the commoners listening: …
People’s stereotypes about nobility weren’t just biased—they were practically encyclopedic.
“Hey!” Wang Ning felt a sudden surge of force from Chloe, who abruptly shoved her away.
Caught off guard, Wang Ning stumbled backward—behind her was a table.
It seemed Chloe didn’t expect her slight increase in strength to push Wang Ning away so easily. Her legs, which were about to dash off, froze in place. She instinctively turned back, pupils shrinking as she reached out to grab her.
But in that instant, Chloe’s fingers spasmed.
Just a split second of hesitation—and Wang Ning hit the edge of the table with a loud thud.
As the sharp pain exploded through her back, Wang Ning vaguely heard screams and chaotic footsteps, along with someone desperately holding her hand at the waist.
Her last conscious thought before everything went black:
Why is my constitution this ridiculously unfortunate?
If this were a novel, I’d definitely be that ill-fated side character!
Afternoon. Inside a Church.
As a nation filled with countless faiths, the Ulysses Empire underwent a transformation from medieval magic to magi-tech during its modern era. In the wake of reshuffled power structures, a wave of new churches emerged.
The ancient Chaos Native Church and the up-and-coming Blade of God Church were the two main factions. Publicly, they promoted harmony, but privately, they competed fiercely.
Thanks to the Empire’s open and tolerant stance, even more bizarre and niche religions flourished. Churches dotted the land like stars in the sky, offering believers services like prayer, community, education, charity, and even healthcare.
Alice Academy had a church of its own—doubling as the school’s infirmary.

The attached picture, censored, showed the scene from the cafeteria.
“…And this is the first thing you show me after I wake up?” came a trembling voice from the infirmary.
“Mm~ Isn’t it interesting?” replied a cheerful voice.
Wang Ning looked blankly at the person beside her hospital bed—the younger twin sister, Lin Yue.
She heard her continue with a pout, “If only I had been there… I wouldn’t have missed the show…” The end of her sentence trailed off into a mumble. Wang Ning didn’t quite catch it, but the tone was unmistakably gleeful.
“So you rushed all the way here just to see me suffer?” Wang Ning asked.
Lin Yue widened her eyes. “How could you slander me like that? I came with genuine concern!”
“See! I even brought you a gift!”
Xia Yali smiled politely. “Pardon me, but your gift is utterly useless.”
She pointed at the “gift” propped up beside the bed and enunciated clearly: “Ning Ning hit her head, not her legs.”
—It was a pair of medical crutches. As if to show extra care, the giver had tied pink bows on them. But that didn’t change the fact that they were still just… crutches.
Lin Yue sat at the edge of Wang Ning’s bed, legs swinging playfully. Her dark teal curls spilled across the white bedding. She tilted her head and said cheerfully, “I think they’ll come in handy~”
Wang Ning: …
Forget it, Wang Ning.
You know this girl is insane. The more attention you give her, the happier she becomes.
Why bother with a dopamine-chasing lunatic?
Wang Ning simply ignored her, turning instead to the doorway where someone in a white lab coat had just entered.
The school doctor smiled warmly. “Wang Ning, how are you feeling?”
“It doesn’t hurt as much now.” Wang Ning reached up to touch her head, but Xia Yali quickly stopped her.
“Don’t touch the wound.”
“Okay, okay…”
The doctor, a gentle-faced middle-aged woman, looked at the group harmoniously gathered around the bed and recalled the last time she’d seen this student.
That time, a blue-haired girl had carried the pale-faced Wang Ning into her office, completely silent.
She’d appeared behind her without a sound, startling her so badly her heart almost stopped.
The girl had said with a furrowed brow and puzzled tone, “Doctor Ella, please take a look—she fainted from heatstroke.”
“I see,” she had replied automatically. Then realization hit—and cold sweat soaked her back.
Her face had stiffened as she cautiously turned to the quiet blue-haired girl, forcing a calm smile. “Did you get my name wrong? I’m Dr. Ruixi.”
The girl glanced at her casually. And for a moment, it felt like her darkest secrets had been exposed.
But she didn’t respond, merely repeating, “Please take care of her, Dr. Ruixi.”
“Doctor, are you listening?” A voice snapped her out of her thoughts, perfectly overlapping with her memory.
She turned, half in a daze—not to see the blue-haired girl again, but the curly-haired Lin Yue, smiling sweetly by the bed.
“I’ll give her a quick check-up,” the doctor said.
“Sure~ Thank you, doctor,” Lin Yue responded cheerily.
Her eyes remained curved into crescents, no longer on the doctor. She turned instead to look at the girl in the bed. In her soft lavender eyes reflected the image of the pale-haired girl—fragile, ghostly white, yet filled with the vitality of a sunflower.
Someday, that gift would be needed.
If one could no longer walk, relying solely on others to survive—would resentment take root and latch onto someone else, living by leeching off their very flesh and blood?
