Time Rewind

Chapter 43 • 800 words • 7 min read

Gasp, ha, cough, cough.

The tips of my fingers felt wet. The scenery before me began to blur, turning red, then twisting, as if I were trapped in an illusion, unable to distinguish fantasy from reality. It hurt—it hurt so much. My left hand kept pressing against the blood gushing from my abdomen, while my sister stared at me in shock, her face a mask of disbelief.

Haah.

It felt as if the air around me had been compressed. Even taking a single breath was excruciating. The gaping wound on my stomach felt like thousands of ants gnawing at it, a maddening itch and agony.

My mind was in turmoil, my nerves as if drenched in acid, violently assaulting my heart, which seemed ready to shatter at any moment.

Ah, although I had deliberately taken that knife, the experience was far from pleasant. The blade had sunk deep, and blood, like water from a broken faucet, gushed uncontrollably from my lower abdomen.

Even though my vision was already a bloody haze, I could still make out three figures: my sister, Qian Tangjin, and He Yanxue.

Then my sister realized what she had done. She pulled out the knife, her eyes wide. She stared at the blade in her hand for a moment, then, trembling, dropped the weapon and began to sob, clutching her head.

Finally, I slowly raised my pale, weak right hand and forced out a sentence from my mouth: “Then, cough, choose… sister… is it better to have a living brother… or a dead one?”

With every word, I had to inhale a lungful of air, only to feel it rejected, as if my body wanted to expel this forced intake.

Then, I lost consciousness.

Time Rewind — that is our superpower today.

Though it can only go back to the moment we wake up in the morning, that’s more than enough to alter causality.

Because this ability has now changed my fate—the fate of death.

Sitting on my bed, what happened yesterday was still vivid in my mind. No, not yesterday, but what was supposed to happen tonight.

The view before me was still hazy. Then my phone buzzed. I picked it up, opened WeChat, and looked at the message that started it all.

Cooking Club (4)

He Yanxue: Let’s eat at Huaimo and Huaixin’s place again today. Everyone bring some food, and we can have a Christmas party. After dinner, we’ll play some games!

Qian Tangjin: I’m fine with that~ Hope we won’t be a bother to Huaimo and Huaixin. Maybe they have plans.

Yuetong Fangying: I have something to do, so I can’t go. Gomen.

He Yanxue: Okay~ So, what about the two of you?

That was the fuse. But last time, it wasn’t me who lit it—it was my sister…

Because my sister agreed, and after a hearty dinner, Yanxue suggested we play the King’s Game. When Yanxue drew the King card, she unfortunately picked my number and Qian Tangjin’s, then gave a joke command for us to kiss. But what I never expected was that my sister had brought a kitchen knife and hidden it well.

After the bloodbath, I thought about using Time Rewind right away, but then it struck me: if I were the one to rewind, my sister would never be able to escape the shadow of this incident. So I chose to use my death as a gamble—that way, there was still a chance to make things right.

And it worked. Because only the two of us retain memories, no one else would be burdened by them.

“Ah, haha, ahaha, the woman who stole my brother is dead, haha. No, that’s not enough. There’s still one more unforgivable person.” I remembered my sister’s maniacal laughter as she stabbed Qian Tangjin’s neck. The blade hit an artery, and blood sprayed wildly across the room, staining it crimson.

Then Yanxue, who was about to scream, had the kitchen knife pressed against her teeth, silencing her. She could only whimper, and ultimately, she too died under my sister’s knife.

After killing them, my sister began to vomit. When she finished, she stood up, laughing hysterically: “Hey, big brother~ no one can stand between us now. Big brother, why aren’t you talking?”

Seeing that I was unresponsive, my sister gritted her teeth, stomped her foot, and thrust the knife into my abdomen. That was the first time.

So this time, all I have to do is refuse.

Jiang Huaimo: Sorry, but Huaixin and I are going out today.

He Yanxue: I see. That’s a shame. Okay, then~

Qian Tangjin: Mm, have fun~

Jiang Huaimo: You’re always welcome another time.

That should avoid my sister’s dark ending. But under the butterfly effect, something else might happen—I just can’t predict what.
