The Ghost Nurse’s Interrogation

Chapter 44673 words6 min read

“New patients, please proceed to the front desk for registration.”

As the rustling footsteps drew nearer, Bai Wanwan’s heart nearly leaped from her chest.

Under the elevator’s dim light, Bai Wanwan saw a nurse with a ghastly pale face. Though her features were delicate, the greenish hue and her slightly protruding tongue revealed the tragic circumstances of her death.

‘Could this ghostly nurse be the master of this bizarre realm?’

Bai Wanwan exchanged a glance with Liu Hanzhi. It was too soon to tell. After all, the malevolent spirit in the Jin Baihan incident could summon subordinates to its service, yet Jin Baihan was far from a true bizarre realm.

Whether this ghostly nurse was indeed the master of the bizarre realm remained open for debate.

“New patients, please proceed to the front desk for registration.”

The ghostly nurse repeated the phrase mechanically. Bai Wanwan found herself at a loss for what to do.

Traditional talismans were useless, and the self-researched talismans she had developed offered little offensive power.

“Let’s just go along with her for now.”

Liu Hanzhi, being more familiar with bizarre realms, knew well that one must first abide by the realm’s rules to ensure survival.

“But we’re not patients at all. What are we supposed to register for?”

This was the crux of their dilemma. A hospital was a place for the sick; if they weren’t patients, shouldn’t they not be here?

Although neither Bai Wanwan nor Liu Hanzhi fully understood the specific rules of this bizarre realm, they could infer some clues from the hospital environment.

If they, without illness, proceeded to register, would that violate the realm’s rules and lead to their annihilation?

Bai Wanwan dared not take that gamble.

She had discerned the ‘fate of grave illness’ from the people who had descended in the elevator with them.

This meant these individuals were either currently suffering from or would eventually contract a severe, life-threatening disease.

“We… are here to visit someone.”

A flash of inspiration struck Bai Wanwan. Who said only patients could come to a hospital? Why couldn’t they be friends or relatives visiting the sick?

The ghostly nurse clearly hadn’t anticipated Bai Wanwan’s response, pausing in a brief moment of ‘system error’.

At this moment, Bai Wanwan’s palms were faintly slick with sweat from the tension.

After what felt like several minutes, the ghostly nurse slowly turned, her rustling steps carrying her gradually into the encroaching darkness.

“Phew…”

Both Bai Wanwan and Liu Hanzhi couldn’t help but let out a long breath.

“That was incredibly close just now. But you’re truly quick-witted. My mind went completely blank from fright.”

Liu Hanzhi patted her ample chest, still visibly shaken.

It had indeed been perilous. As the ghostly nurse turned, both Bai Wanwan and Liu Hanzhi noticed a rusty surgical knife clutched tightly in one hand, which she had kept hidden behind her back.

It seemed that had Bai Wanwan violated the rules of this place, that surgical knife would have pierced her throat the very next second.

“Hey, Wanwan, where are you going?”

Liu Hanzhi was startled as Bai Wanwan suddenly stepped forward, heading deeper into the dim corridor.

“To visit, of course. We’re now patients’ family members, what’s there to be afraid of?”

Bai Wanwan sensed that this bizarre realm was not the extreme, death-trap kind Liu Hanzhi had described. Its rules were discoverable, and most likely related to the hospital setting.

“That nurse just now shouldn’t be the master of the bizarre realm. We need to find the true master now.”

Bai Wanwan speculated it would likely be a doctor or a director, or perhaps even the head nurse.

As long as she could find the master of the bizarre realm, Bai Wanwan believed she could break its restrictions and find a way out.

“Are… are we really going to look for them?”

Liu Hanzhi felt a chill run down her spine. She had noticed that with every step Bai Wanwan took forward, the ‘death omen’ on her face became more pronounced.
