Chapter 46: Behind the Scenes: Dajang’s Hard Work and Unspoken Bonds

“Staying the night? Sure, Dajang can give you a place to sleep. That’s not a problem.

But Dajang has video editing to do—live broadcasts, department store shopping, lookbook content. There’s a mountain of work waiting.

And you’re saying you’re staying over? That doesn’t make sense.”

“It’s not impossible, but I do need to go home to edit videos.”

“You can do it here. I’ve already installed all the editing programs.”

“Are you sure? The different environment might be uncomfortable.”

“It’s fine.”

If they’re okay with it, I’ll respect that.

Dajang isn’t the type to be careless with work.

Actually, this is great.

I’ve always wanted to see how they work, and now I can learn by watching up close.

Plus, wouldn’t it be a good idea to turn Dajang’s editing process into content? This is a win-win.

“Alright, stay over.”

“Thank you.”

Dajang expressed gratitude with a slight bow and continued eating.

Watching them chew their food slowly, like a rabbit nibbling on something, is so endearing.

How can someone so cute and pretty have never been in a relationship?

Sure, being introverted plays a part, but ultimately, the lack of men must be the bigger issue.

This world, despite the reversal of gender norms, still seems to disadvantage women in many ways.

“Can I use a new toothbrush?”

“Of course.”

“I’ll brush my teeth and start editing right away. What time is today’s broadcast?”

“8 PM. There are only four hours left—will that be enough time? It seems pretty tight.”

“It’s enough.”

After finishing the meal, Dajang got up and went to the bathroom to brush their teeth.

Then, carrying the freshly laundered clothes, they moved around the house.

“Do you have a styler?”

“It’s in the dressing room next to the bedroom.”

Dajang went into the dressing room to dry their clothes.

Meanwhile, I drafted an announcement for my Twika TV broadcast station.

Twika TV Streamer Yuseong – Announcement
Hello, this is Shin Yuseong!

For today’s broadcast, we’re planning a Talk-On viewer talent show content. If you have an extraordinary talent, such as singing or impressions, we hope you’ll join!

Prizes:

  • 1 Grand Prize Winner: 200,000 KRW in gift vouchers
  • 3 Excellence Award Winners: 100,000 KRW in gift vouchers each

The broadcast will start at 9 PM today. If we finish early, we’ll play a few games of LoL.

On my first broadcast, I had to deal with a stream sniper and ended up buying gift vouchers on the spot.

I considered just refunding them, but I’d already promised viewers I’d use them for content. A promise is a promise.

After some deliberation, I decided to delay the broadcast by an hour—not because I don’t trust Dajang, but to give them a bit more time to work comfortably.

If the editing finishes quickly, maybe I’ll treat them to something nice from the floor below.

I’d feel bad just sending them back after making them work nonstop.

“Did you post the announcement?”

“Yes, I just wrote that the broadcast would be at 9 PM.”

“You didn’t have to, but alright.”

Dajang approached me.

I got up and stepped aside.

Is there any snack in the house?

They might get hungry while working.

I should head to the convenience store.

“Dajang, keep working. I’ll step out for a bit.”

I went down to the first-floor convenience store and bought some snacks—chips, chocolate balls, and drinks.

Would they like ice cream? Just in case, I grabbed a few.

When I got back, Dajang was fully immersed in their work.

Their hands moved so quickly, the screen transitioned in a blur.

It reminded me of watching myself play a fast-paced game.

Watching from the side, I had no idea what was going on.

“Did you just get back from the store?”

“Yes.”

“Let me see. What did you get?”

I opened the bag for them to see.

Dajang reached in, rummaged around, and pulled out a tube of ice cream.

They unwrapped it, bit off the cap, and started eating while their hands busily returned to the keyboard and mouse.

“Mind if I watch?”

“Sure, just from a bit farther back.”

I was about to sit next to them when Dajang glanced over and gave me a sharp look.

They’d taken off the jumper I’d lent them.

It must’ve been cumbersome for them while working.

I moved a bit farther back, as requested. I shouldn’t disturb them.

“For the live broadcast, I’m planning to divide it into three parts. The concepts are… hang on, like this. What do you think?”

Dajang opened a notepad and typed out three video concept titles:

[Finally, Makeup! A Mad Movie for the Face!]
[Explosive Chemistry with Actor Lee Seolhyun]
[Defeating the Chapter Boss Without Gacha]

Not bad. Makeup, Actor Lee Seolhyun, and a no-gacha boss challenge—each concept is sure to grab subscribers’ attention. Once the videos are uploaded, the views are bound to rack up.

“Looks good.”

“Right?”

“Edit it just like that. I’ll call Twika TV to check on Seolhyun’s portrait rights.”

“You don’t have to, but go ahead. Better safe than sorry.”

“Alright.”

I called Twika TV’s operations team.

I thought about contacting the CEO directly but decided it wasn’t appropriate.

Procedures are there for a reason, after all.

During the call, they confirmed that everything had already been cleared with NX Soft, the sponsor, so there were no issues.

“They gave permission.”

“See? I told you there was no need to contact them.”

Dajang took a USB out of their bag and plugged it into the computer.

It contained folders labeled with names like logos, timelines, and background music.

They double-clicked the timeline folder and opened the live broadcast file.

[Live Broadcast Timeline]

  • 00:04:48 ~ 00:05:01 Host Introduction
  • 00:05:12 ~ 00:05:14 Spontaneous Audience Reaction
  • 00:05:19 ~ 00:05:21 Spontaneous Reaction 2 (Inappropriate Dialogue)

Every moment was documented.

So this is what Dajang does while watching my broadcasts.

Wait, does this mean they also double as my manager?

Goosebumps ran down my arms.

“Now, all you have to do is select scenes that match the concept of each video while looking at the timeline. Simple, right?”

“No, it looks really hard! On top of that, it’s such tedious work. Do you think we can finish in five hours?”

“Once you get into it, it’s not a big deal.”

Video editing isn’t easy, huh? The workload looks ridiculous.

I feel relieved we delayed the broadcast by an hour.

“Um, Dajang, I’m thinking about turning your editing process into content. Would it be okay to film you?”

Right, now I see how busy things are.

Still, we have to shoot the content.

We’ve already fallen behind schedule due to the lookbook video shoot and couldn’t cover one of the planned items.

I’ll have to substitute it with footage of Dajang working.

“Sigh, Yuseong, sometimes you seem like someone obsessed with money. You really don’t need to go this far, do you? I even know exactly how much you earn.”

Dajang frowned and shook her head.

She had a point—there’s no need to work so hard when you already enjoy wealth most people can’t even dream of.

But what can I do about wanting more?

The results always exceed the effort I put in, so I’ve become addicted to enjoying my work.

I never want to stop until I reach an overwhelming position no one else can match.

“Alright, but don’t film my face. It’s a hassle to edit it out later.”

“Thank you.”

“Geez, now I’ll have to explain things while editing.”

Dajang resumed editing.

Her hands moved swiftly, and she continued explaining the situation without a break.

She’s truly an incredible person.

Watching her work up close was nothing short of impressive.

“And that’s how Shin Yuseong TV’s YouTube videos are made! Isn’t Dajang’s skill amazing? For those who complained when we recruited an editor, are you watching this? Reflect on yourselves!”

Dajang finished her work.

In just two hours, she edited five videos.

Watching her subtitle the videos was like witnessing a monster in action.

Her typing aligned perfectly with the timeline, almost like she had some sort of auto-input program.

“Dajang, would you like to say a few words?”

I wrapped up with a closing comment and handed her the microphone.

Since she was the star of the content, it was only right to hear her thoughts.

“Everyone, this is how I’m being overworked. Please save me…”

“Yes, Dajang is thrilled to have worked with you all! That’s it for today’s video—see you next time!”

Great, it was a clean finish.

Dajang’s joke at the end was the highlight.

The video might have been slightly boring, but her witty remark left the audience with a small laugh.

“Dajang, that last joke was spot-on.”

As expected of a veteran editor, her sense of humor was excellent. I extended my hand for a high-five.

But instead of slapping my palm, she just started putting on her jacket without saying a word.

“Who said it was a joke?”

“Sorry?”

“I really am overworked. Three shoots today and editing five videos? Wow, I’ve never seen such an exhausting YouTuber in my life.”

“Well, um… Should I raise your salary?”

“No thanks.”

Dajang pouted.

Was she upset that I filmed her editing without asking?

This felt more like a complaint about the work environment.

Seeing her skills firsthand made me realize how scary it was.

They say bosses often tiptoe around their most capable employees, and now I understood why.

“Pfft! Your expression is so pitiful I can’t even tease you properly.”

“Oh, come on! Don’t mess with me. Do you want me to get back at you again?”

“Feel free if you can handle it.”

Thankfully, it was just a joke.

Dajang smiled brightly and held out her hand.

Smack! We high-fived loudly. And with that, we wrapped up the grueling YouCube shoot for the day.

“Why don’t you check if your clothes have dried? Let’s head downstairs, and I’ll treat you to something tasty.”

There were still two and a half hours left until the broadcast.

In the meantime, I figured I’d treat Dajang to a good meal.

She’d worked so hard; I wanted to fill her up with some hearty meat.

“No thanks, we just ate.”

“But still…”

“I can’t eat much. I wouldn’t be able to finish anything anyway.”

Dajang shook her head vigorously, patting her stomach as if to show it was full.

She looked slim, but if she said she was full, there was no point forcing her.

I decided to respect her decision.

“Then, what should we do now?”

Either way, I had already decided to dedicate the rest of my time to Dajang.

I should let her choose.

“How about watching a movie?”

“A movie?”

“There’s something I wanted to watch, but I put it off because it has some violent scenes. I think I can handle it since I’m with you, Yuseong.”

“Well… I’m not a fan of violent stuff either, but if you want to watch it, I’ll muster up the courage.”

The movie Dajang wanted to see was Parasite.

It’s about poor families leeching off a wealthy household.

Hmm, that sounds familiar—similar to a movie from my world.

Anyway, I bought it and played it on the TV.

“Turn off the lights, please.”

“Sure, I’ll grab some snacks too.”

Good thing I picked up some snacks at the convenience store.

We’d need them while watching.

I turned off the living room lights, drew the curtains, and the room darkened, leaving only the light from the large TV.

It felt like a real movie theater.

“Here, have some snacks.”

“Just put them in the middle. I’ll grab some if I feel like it.”

We sat side by side on the sofa.

I glanced at Dajang, and she was fully focused on the movie.

So she took off her jacket again—that’s why she asked for the lights off.

Wearing layers inside a warm house must’ve been uncomfortable.

I turned my attention back to the movie.

I wasn’t particularly interested, but it was a critically acclaimed masterpiece.

It was worth watching.

“Oh, my heart is racing.”

The movie was enjoyable.

The beginning was so lighthearted that I laughed out loud several times.

But as it transitioned into the middle, the mood grew heavier.

“Here, eat this.”

“Okay…”

I reached out but grabbed something other than snacks.

It was Dajang’s small, sweaty hand.

Was she nervous? We awkwardly smiled at each other as our eyes met.

[Ah, honey, just a little more. Clockwise, please.]

Just then, a moan came from the TV.

Startled, I turned to see the lead actors engaging in a steamy scene on the couch.
