Ping Chengcheng climbed onto the roof of the armored vehicle, sniper rifle in hand.
Most of the people on the street had already fled, leaving only the four members of the guard team in the center, as well as Ping Chengcheng and the others.
A bleak wind blew past, and some who hadn’t quite died were lying on the ground, wailing.
The guard team members were covered in cold sweat, no one knowing where that monster would strike them from.
Wang Ji looked in astonishment at the girl standing on the roof of the vehicle: “Hey, get down, do you not want to live?”
He reached out to pull Ping Chengcheng down, but Song Ning stopped him: “It’s okay, she’s already found where the Lurker is.”
Wang Ji’s pupils contracted: “Where?!”
Song Ning pointed to the roof of a building twenty meters away.
Wang Ji looked over, but didn’t see anything.
“Where is it? There’s nothing there?”
Wu Sheng and Lao Ba were also completely confused, unable to see anything at all; it just looked like a normal rooftop. Even if the Lurker’s mimicry ability was strong, it couldn’t be this effective, right?
Looking back at the girl, she had already confidently stood up straight, her gun aimed at the Lurker, her expression indifferent, her whole being like a sharp blade, and then… she decisively pulled the trigger!
“Bang!~”
“Crack!~ Clang!”
The Lurker screamed and fell from the roof, its camouflage instantly disappearing, revealing its original hideous and terrifying appearance! Brown skin, covered in disgusting mucus! Its large mouth opened, and an extremely terrifying and slender tongue wildly and indiscriminately lashed out!
The guard team members were thrown into chaos, each scattering and fleeing. There was no helping it; the guard team was essentially just security guards, with a truly poor overall skillset.
The girl snorted coldly: “Truly useless.”
Pulling back the bolt, aiming, another shot rang out, directly hitting the Lurker’s tongue root, instantly severing its tongue, leaving only less than fifty centimeters!
“Alright, now we can capture it alive; without its mimicry and attack methods.”
“It’s not much different from a regular zombie now.”
Ping Chengcheng climbed down from the armored vehicle roof, smiling as she burrowed into Song Ning’s arms.
Wang Ji stared blankly at everything.
Too… too exaggerated, not just her marksmanship, but even her hawk-like eyes were terrifying.
Suddenly, applause came from the rear of the street, and a sharp-eyed man in a commander’s combat uniform appeared, smiling. Behind him followed twenty or thirty armed personnel.
He attracted the attention of everyone inside the armored vehicle; Wang Ji, seeing him, quickly got out of the vehicle and saluted.
The man waved his hand, looked at Ping Chengcheng, who was nestled in the young woman’s arms inside the vehicle, and a playful smile curled on his lips: “Wang Ji, is this the new recruit you enlisted?”
Wang Ji nodded with a serious face: “Yes, although she looks like just a little girl, her marksmanship is god-like.”
The man hummed, his gaze towards the girl seeming to see right through everything, and Ping Chengcheng alertly looked up, a sense of crisis arising.
This person is not simple.
“Hello, I’m Xiao Lie, I saw your kill-streak just now.”
“You’re very good.”
Song Ning felt a slight unease; this person gave her a dangerous feeling.
The man narrowed his eyes, looking at the Lurker still struggling on the ground ahead.
“Go, capture that zombie alive and send it to the Research Department!”
“Oh right, remember to have Lao Gao send me some more wine, hahahaha.” After giving his orders, the man turned his gaze back to the girl.
“You’re a bit different from others.” He gave a meaningful smile.
“Let me introduce myself; I’m Xiao Lie, the General Commander of the Armed Operations Department, your captain’s direct superior.”
Ping Chengcheng smiled like a little girl and nodded her cute little head: “Hello, Boss~ I’m Ping Chengcheng, and, this is my sister Song Ning.” She wrapped her arms around Song Ning’s arm, tightening her grip slightly, facing Xiao Lie, she could feel a very serious pressure.
She felt that Xiao Lie seemed to know something, and was definitely suspicious of her.
Suspecting what? Suspecting that she was a monster, or something else? Could it be… suspecting that she was a Variant?
Has the time period where Variants have already appeared arrived?
Although the girl wasn’t a Variant, she really didn’t have any confidence; if she was caught and taken to a lab to have her genes tested, wouldn’t they discover that she was a non-human lifeform monster or something?
She didn’t know if the altered human genes in her were effective.
The girl’s heart pounded, Song Ning sensed her abnormality and quietly grasped Ping Chengcheng’s little hand that was placed at her side.
Song Ning looked at the girl with a composed gaze, as if to say, ‘Don’t be afraid.’
Xiao Lie looked at the two young women, smiled elegantly, and then bowed in a gentlemanly manner, before opening the car door: “I heard you came from S City, three hundred kilometers away, you should have encountered other Special Infected along the way, right?”
“I’m going to be so bold as to request that you come to my residence for a chat, would the two of you do me the honor?”
As he spoke, his expression was friendly, but Ping Chengcheng felt a chill. She subconsciously looked at the armed personnel behind Xiao Lie, only to see that their gun muzzles were tilted slightly upwards.
This was a Hongmen Banquet.
(TL note: Hongmen Banquet is a famous event in Chinese history, often used to describe a situation where a seemingly friendly invitation hides a deadly trap.)
But they had no choice but to go.
So the girl smiled sweetly, grabbed her sister’s hand, and got out of the car: “Boss, are you planning to treat us to delicious food?”
“What good food is there?”
Xiao Lie was stunned. Why did this guy agree so readily? Could it be that his guess was wrong, and she wasn’t actually a Variant?
No… those red pupils had never been heard of even before the apocalypse, only patients with albinism had those special pupils. But the girl was clearly not an albino.
She’s pretending!
With certainty in his guess, Xiao Lie laughed heartily: “Of course, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen girls as good-looking and strong as you.”
“I admire you, let’s go, let’s go eat a feast together.”
Wu Sheng and Lao Ba opened their mouths wide, looking at the backs of Ping Chengcheng and Song Ning as they left hand in hand. Wait, what? Is this reasonable?
Wang Ji clicked his tongue in admiration: “Ah, that’s our Commander Xiao, he just conquered them with his personal charm.”
Wu Sheng, hearing this, burst out laughing. Just kidding, would that guy Ping Chengcheng tolerate this happening?
Lao Ba also couldn’t help it; he had been riding in the semi-trailer without a windshield too much lately, and caught a cold. Now when he laughed, a snot bubble immediately fell down.
Wang Ji looked at the two strangely.
“What, am I wrong? Don’t you think Commander Xiao is very handsome?”
Wu Sheng waved his hand, laughing loudly, glanced around, seeing that no one was continuing to stay here, patted Wang Ji on the shoulder: “Buddy, let me tell you, actually Ping Chengcheng is a lesbian, she likes Song Ning.”
“So Commander Xiao is destined to fail.”
Huh?
Wang Ji was dumbfounded.
“Really?”
“Of course it’s true, I’ll bet my happiness for the rest of my life on it.” Lao Ba snorted.
“Oh, I see.” Wang Ji rubbed his nose, mourning for Commander Xiao’s happy life.
“I think Song Ning should be the top.” He said.
“Why can’t lolis be the top?” Lao Ba crossed his arms in dissatisfaction, his snot running out, he sucked it back in again.
