A sneak attack from Kold

Chapter 49 • 1,288 words • 11 min read

On the specially constructed high platform in Laita City, the golden-haired girl in the white robe sat slumped on the ground, a flintlock made of translucent crystal pressed against her brow.

“Lady Holy Maiden!”

After the Holy Stone magic array shattered, some of the civilians who still lingered nearby could also see the scene on the high platform.

The Holy Maiden they had always been proud of, that powerful and gentle Holy Maiden, had actually lost!

The silk covering her eyes obscured the color within them, but the resolve on Yuffie’s face clearly showed she was prepared for martyrdom.

“Even if I die, the Holy Stone chains have a unique restriction from the Church. Even if you are a Sequence Six witch, don’t even think about undoing them.”

Her life threatened by Su Ran’s gun, Yuffie, knowing she could not win by force, adjusted her emotions and began to calmly explain the function of the chains to the purple witch.

She could also hear the gasps of the civilians, but in the current situation, Yuffie couldn’t even protect herself.

“You don’t fear death?”

“As the Holy Maiden of the Church, Yuffie has never feared death. Even if I fall, other Holy Maidens will stand up after me!”

Yuffie raised her fair neck, her face showing only firm faith in the Church.

Even though the magic array was destroyed, she was not an ordinary girl.

After becoming the Holy Maiden, she had resolved to dedicate her all to the Church.

Mere death was not a threat to her.

“Your Highness Yuffie!”

Several silver-white figures burst out from among the civilians.

Holding gleaming longswords, they charged towards the stage where Yuffie was, striking with all their might.

They were the mobile squad responsible for evacuating civilians and handling other matters.

When the Holy Stone magic array was activated, they had not participated, making them the only remaining effective force on the Church’s side.

The person leading this mobile squad was Kold.

He had been appointed by the Holy Maiden as the squad’s captain.

Even knowing that the witch before them was powerful and had even destroyed the Holy Stone magic array, the knights still rushed out for their Holy Maiden.

“The knights have appeared! They will surely be able to save the Lady Holy Maiden from the evil witch’s hands!”

The appearance of the mobile squad ignited the hope of the civilians on site.

They had originally thought the Church knights lying on the ground were under the witch’s curse, and that the pure Holy Maiden was about to suffer at the witch’s hands.

They hadn’t expected more knights to appear to save the Holy Maiden.

The civilians who had been watching the excitement from near the high platform had basically not lingered after escaping.

After leaving, they had all run towards the outside of Laita City.

They had personally experienced what kind of terrifying pressure the witch who had descended from the sky possessed.

The people still remaining on the scene were all civilians who had not had the chance to get close before.

They had only dared to approach after the magic array was erected and were naturally unaware of the purple witch’s terror.

It is human nature to be drawn to excitement, and the world has never lacked such people.

They naively thought that the few remaining knights alone could defeat the witch.

“Kold, you all, leave quickly!”

Kold’s sudden appearance brought a panicked look to Yuffie’s face, and she tried to stand up at once.

She was the only one who clearly knew how terrifying the purple witch was.

An ambush like Kold’s could not possibly succeed and would even result in a pointless loss of life.

The magic array being destroyed by the witch had already damaged the foundation of many knights.

Yuffie did not want the remaining knights to also be killed by the witch.

“Lady Holy Maiden! We will not let the witch harm you, unless she steps over our dead bodies!”

After the knights spoke, the longswords in their hands blazed with burning magic essence.

To save Yuffie, they even burned the magic essence within their own bodies, seeking only a momentary burst of power.

Relying on their firm faith and the power bursting from their magic essence, Kold and the others temporarily withstood the purple witch’s pressure.

In Kold’s view, the purple witch must have been stunned by the sudden ambush.

How could a witch, accustomed to fighting from a distance, be a match for a knight in close combat?

‘Victory is certain!’

Throughout the entire process, Su Ran did not speak a word, silently waiting for the knights’ attack to arrive.

From the very beginning, he had seen several small red dots appear on the map.

Kold and his team’s ambush was not as they had imagined, catching Su Ran off guard.

In fact, Kold’s every move was carried out right under Su Ran’s nose, completely seen by him, with no secrets left.

‘According to the normal development of a story, the other side shouts something about friendship, bonds, and then rushes over, striking me, the symbol of evil, to the ground.’

‘But I’m sorry, this is not some fairy tale.’

The power gap between the two sides was not something these things could make up for.

He was the only Sequence Six on the scene!

Facing the attack led by Kold, Su Ran didn’t even turn his head, nor did his feet move.

The purple light on his body transformed into countless falling flower petals, obscuring the vision of Kold and the others.

Just as they were still warily wondering where the witch’s attack would come from, the pressure on their bodies increased severalfold in a flash of lightning.

The longswords they could still wield with ease just now felt as if they were shackled, no longer able to be held steadily.

Clang.

The longswords fell to the ground, and the burning magic essence on the ambushing knights was also extinguished.

Throughout the entire process, Su Ran hadn’t even moved.

He had merely used a single spell: Dispel.

He condensed the massive amount of magic essence in his body into the shape of petals, expelling the free magic essence in the surrounding space, forming an invisible vacuum zone of magic essence.

This spell had many flaws in practical combat, but it was particularly suitable for use against knights who were several sequences lower.

If the magic essence in Su Ran’s body was like a rushing river, then the magic essence Kold and the others could control was but a trickling stream.

After the magic essence vacuum was formed, the burning magic essence could not get enough fuel and was naturally extinguished quickly.

Even the Sequence Five Yuffie was no exception.

Seeing the longswords fall and the knights rushing towards the witch kneel on the ground, the cheers of the civilians on site abruptly stopped.

In their eyes, the knights were already very powerful superhumans, and the Holy Maiden was an existence they could only look up to.

After the magic array shattered, seeing so many knights lying on the ground, those who had not witnessed the events firsthand could still delude themselves, thinking the knights had already consumed much of the witch’s stamina and surely only needed a little more help to defeat her.

“They failed?”

The difficult words were spoken.

When they personally saw the witch easily defeat these knights, the emotion called fear gradually climbed into their minds.

Only now did the civilians present understand why the others had rushed out of the city without looking back.

This witch before them was not the type they had seen before, who could be easily handled.
