Enemies Meet on a Narrow Road (Part 2)

Chapter 491,277 words11 min read

Yang Liying’s mental state had significantly improved.

Although Chen Zeyu had never witnessed Yang Liying’s previous condition, her ability to engage in normal conversation already simplified matters considerably.

Their next objective was to gather more scandalous information about Sun Baihai, alongside conducting further investigations to dismantle his network of protectors.

Chen Zeyu and Evetti sat beside Yang Liying’s hospital bed, utilizing the conveniently empty adjacent spot.

They began their questions.

“Senior Yang Liying, you said you remembered me.”

“Was it from that dream?” Chen Zeyu asked, leaning in with the eager curiosity of a junior student, her hands resting on her knees.

“Yes, it was.”

“Though I don’t understand how, you helped me escape him, and I’m truly grateful.”

“At least my dreams are no longer shrouded in darkness; a glimmer of light is enough.”

Yang Liying offered a faint smile, her lips a delicate pink, though her complexion remained pallid.

Her voice carried the poignant fragility of a beauty destined for hardship.

“Do you think two people sharing the same dream is merely a coincidence, Senior Yang Liying?” Evetti added the honorific.

She sensed that Yang Liying was aware of the witches’ existence, or at least familiar with supernatural phenomena.

“Heh heh… You two must be sisters.”

“What are your names?” Yang Liying asked calmly, her face softened by a rare ray of evening sunlight.

She was indeed the campus belle of the previous year.

“Chen Yunyao.”

“Can you answer my question now, Senior?” Evetti spoke courteously, not out of deference to Yang Liying, but because the fewer people who knew about the witches, the better.

“The probability of sharing a dream is like two trees in different worlds sprouting the same leaf – rare, yet it exists, doesn’t it?” Yang Liying’s smile held a hint of sorrow, but her dark eyes shone with unwavering resolve.

Her answer was evasive, yet it confirmed her awareness.

Evetti made a swift judgment, then uttered words that astonished everyone present.

“Senior Yang Liying, do you believe in the existence of magic?”

“Huh?” Chen Zeyu turned to Evetti, clearly bewildered by her actions.

‘Weren’t they supposed to keep it a secret?’

‘Why is she revealing it now?’

As Chen Zeyu pondered, Yang Liying provided her answer.

“I do.”

“If vile individuals like Sun Baihai can exist in this world, then miracles like magic must surely exist too.”

“Then this will be easy.”

Evetti leaped off the bed.

Her magic wand, previously tucked behind her back, suddenly flared with a purple glow.

The light coalesced into a protective purple barrier, resembling an inverted bowl, enclosing the three of them in a private space.

“This is… magic.” Yang Liying stared in stunned disbelief, her dark pupils blinking rapidly as if struggling to reconcile with reality.

“Hey, hey, hey!”

“Why are you using magic?!” Chen Zeyu exclaimed, bewildered.

What was Evetti planning with such sudden action?

“This is a magical barrier to block out external prying and eavesdropping.”

“Inside here, we can speak freely.”

“Don’t hide it any longer, little sister; let her see your white flame.”

“Alright, alright, it’s your decision,” Chen Zeyu conceded.

She extended her right hand, and a white flame surged from her palm, crackling with a restless energy, as if expressing intense emotions to her.

“Don’t scare people, can you rein it in a bit?” Chen Zeyu grumbled, furrowing her brows.

The white flame, chastened, reluctantly retracted its fierce glow—or rather, its fiery radiance.

“Magic truly exists, then?”

“What are you, plainclothes magical girls?” Yang Liying’s expression transitioned from initial shock to ready acceptance in less than ten seconds.

“Remove ‘magical’ and ‘girls,’ and that’s our existence,” Evetti stated, clutching her wand.

“W-witches?”

“You are witches?” Yang Liying’s expression subtly shifted, no longer surprise but a deep skepticism.

“What about witches?”

“You seem to distrust us.” Evetti narrowed her eyes, and the light on her wand began to pulse restlessly.

“No, I’m just curious why one of you has a wand and the other doesn’t.”

“And where are your pointy hats?”

“Your black robes?” Yang Liying explained her reasoning, imagining witches to always wear distinctive attire for easy identification.

“Do you enjoy wearing the same outfit all the time?”

“Are you even a girl?” Evetti countered.

“…Oh, right.”

“So witches also like to dress up.” Yang Liying understood.

She looked at Chen Zeyu, who was still absorbed by her white flame.

“Junior Yuqing, why did you save me?”

“You couldn’t have come for no reason, could you?” Yang Liying asked softly, steering the conversation back to their purpose.

“Indeed.”

“I’m currently being harassed by Sun Baihai because of my title as campus belle.”

“He bothered me, so I beat him up.”

“I hope to learn more about Sun Baihai’s scandals from you, Senior.”

“I want him to pay the price.”

“Sun Baihai…” Yang Liying’s hand clenched the bedsheet.

Her face twisted with indignation, but she quickly suppressed it.

“I will tell you everything I know.”

“If it’s you witches, then I believe you can help me resolve the resentment and grievances in my heart.”

Yang Liying declared her stance, trusting Chen Zeyu.

If it had been some so-called care organization, she would have felt hopeless, knowing her words would be futile.

But with the witches, it was different; they possessed genuine “power,” rendering “authority” secondary.

“That scoundrel has already paid a very small price.”

“Senior Yang Liying, please tell me what you know.”

“I will record it, and Sun Baihai will surely face the harshest punishment.” Evetti volunteered, conjuring a writing board with her wand.

“Very well.”

“In return, I swear not to reveal your secret as witches.”

“This matter will remain buried in my heart and will never resurface without your permission.”

As Yang Liying’s promise concluded, the task of documenting the crimes proceeded methodically.

With her superior mastery of magic, Evetti was better suited for the recording, leaving Chen Zeyu with nothing to do but step outside.

Conveniently, there was a balcony at the end of the corridor, perfect for keeping watch.

Towering buildings rose in the distance, cars flowed like rivers, and a city about to shimmer with vibrant lights lay spread before her eyes.

Creak, creak.

The sound of a wheelchair rolling.

“Move it!”

“You’re blocking Young Master Sun’s path!”

A muddled voice came from behind.

Chen Zeyu turned her head, and the familiar, detestable figure appeared.

Dressed in a hospital gown, confined to a wheelchair and unable to move, it was none other than the blond Sun Baihai.

What a coincidence!

“Chen Yuqing, it’s you!”

“Why did you change your hair color…”

Sun Baihai in his wheelchair was stunned.

He had just undergone micro-surgery, and upon arriving at the hospital, he saw Chen Yuqing in her original appearance!

“It’s enough that you recognize me.”

“It seems fate has brought us together again.”

Chen Zeyu turned fully, clenching her fists.

Her silhouette was framed by the last rays of sunlight on the horizon, her crimson gaze gleaming like that of a goddess poised to unleash an apocalypse.

‘How is it her?’

‘Is she going to attack me again?’

“I warn you, don’t come any closer!”

“This is a hospital!” Sun Baihai’s henchmen pulled his wheelchair backward.

They dared not speak, only bowed their heads.

Chen Zeyu said nothing.

Her small, swift steps kept pace with the retreating wheelchair.

Her hand landed effortlessly on Sun Baihai’s shoulder.

“You are finished.”

“Remember, this isn’t a warning; it’s a notification.”

With her soft words delivered, Chen Zeyu walked away.

A silent, crushing weight, like a mountain falling into the sea, enveloped Sun Baihai’s surroundings, leaving him with but a single thought:

‘She is threatening me.’
