It took a full two days for Ji Fengjing’s new home to be thoroughly scrubbed clean.
As furniture was moved in piece by piece, the once-hollow villa finally began to feel like a home. On moving day, he hadn’t originally planned on hosting anyone, but he hadn’t counted on Zhang Donghao’s big mouth. Before he knew it, Zhang had invited every colleague in the department who wasn’t currently out on a mission.
“Boss, I’m telling you, it’s one thing to not pick an auspicious date for moving, but you at least have to invite friends over to liven the place up! That’s how a new home gets its ‘human energy.’ Do you even know what that is?”
“Exactly! Captain, be honest—is it because you don’t want to spend the money? Are you trying to dodge picking up the check?”
“Why are you still calling him Captain? Boss is about to be our Department Director!”
“Then I guess it’ll be Director Ji from now on… Haha, why does that make me feel like I’m being called into the headmaster’s office? Hahahaha!”
Ji Fengjing couldn’t help but laugh along with them. Ever since his colleagues arrived, the cold, quiet mansion had instantly become a beehive of activity. However, since he didn’t know how to cook, he could only open a food delivery app and ask, “What do you guys want to eat? Let’s get one thing straight: none of us can cook, and since you refuse to go out to a restaurant, delivery is our only option.”
Zhang Donghao hollered back, “Going out is out of the question! We’re here to bring some life to your new place, Boss. If we go out, won’t the house just be lonely again?”
“Mouse is right! Delivery it is. Boss, I want ten pounds of spicy crawfish!” “Ten pounds won’t be enough. I can eat ten pounds by myself. Make it twenty!” “Barbecue! BBQ! BBQ! Five orders of everything on the menu!” “And beer! You can’t have crawfish and BBQ without beer!”
Ji Fengjing placed the orders according to their demands, but when he heard the mention of alcohol, he shot it down mercilessly. “No alcohol. Everyone’s drinking soda.”
In their line of work, they might look idle now, but emergency missions could be handed down at any second. Even while on leave, they had to be ready to mobilize at a moment’s notice; drinking was absolutely out of the question.
A chorus of wails erupted. “Boss, I haven’t had a drink in almost a year!” “Boss, don’t believe Zhou Kai’s crap. He went to a bar and downed a dozen last week!” “Screw off! I was at that bar for a mission! If you don’t drink at a bar, you’ll blow your cover instantly, okay?” “Pah! You just used the opportunity to drink on the government’s dime. We know your game!”
Watching them bicker back and forth, Ji Fengjing smiled helplessly. Recalling their usual delivery preferences, he finalized the orders. Knowing how much they could eat, he ordered multiple portions of every dish.
Half an hour later, the food finally arrived. Because he had ordered so much, two delivery riders showed up at once, but they were stopped by the security guards at the villa complex gates.
Most residents here were either wealthy or influential, and they usually had no shortage of nannies or servants. No one had ever ordered delivery before, so the guards assumed the riders were trying to sneak in for some ulterior motive.
The delivery riders were forced to call Ji Fengjing and ask him to come pick up the food in person. One rider kindly reminded him, “Sir, you ordered a lot of stuff. It’ll be hard for one person to carry. You should probably bring someone else out to help.”
“Got it, be right there.” Ji Fengjing hung up and headed out.
When he reached the security booth and saw the guard still blocking the riders, he hurried over. “Sorry about that. I’m the one who ordered the food.”
The delivery rider let out a sigh of relief. “Mr. Ji, your delivery has arrived. Enjoy your meal, and please remember to give us a five-star rating!”
“Thank you,” Ji Fengjing said.
The guard remarked, “Oh, it was you. I was wondering—no one ever orders delivery here. Mr. Ji, you just moved in; haven’t found any servants yet?”
After seeing Ji Fengjing coming and going during the move over the past few days, the guard had become familiar with him.
Ji Fengjing smiled. “That’s right. But I don’t plan on hiring a nanny for now, so I might be ordering delivery again. Uncle, could you let them through in the future?”
He had no intention of hiring servants; he wasn’t some pampered young master.
“That won’t do,” the guard said solemnly. “We can’t just let anyone in. Tell you what, next time you order delivery, I’ll bring it in for you.”
Ji Fengjing was pleasantly surprised. “Would that be too much trouble for you?”
“Not at all, it’s a small thing.” The guard was quite easygoing. He added, “Did you come out here alone? You have so many bags, how are you going to carry them? Let me help.”
“No need, I can manage.” Ji Fengjing didn’t want to trouble others. Before the guard could reach out, he gathered all the bags himself.
He had ordered so much that it was split into nine large, bulging bags. While the weight wasn’t an issue for him, carrying that many at once without spilling anything was a logistical challenge.
The security guard watched in awe as Ji Fengjing stacked the bags on top of each other until the pile was over a meter high. Then, he scooped the whole tower into his arms. He turned and said, “Uncle, I’m heading back now.”
Watching him walk away with such effortless ease, the guard’s eyes widened in sheer amazement.
Just then, a low-profile black Bentley drove in. The guard snapped out of his daze and immediately greeted the driver with a smile. “Mr. Wen, you’re back early today.” He opened the gate to let the car through.
Inside the car, Wen Xingshen nodded. But as his gaze drifted forward, he suddenly froze.
Directly ahead of the car, a tall, slender youth was walking leisurely, cradling a stack of bags that rose several heads higher than his own. Those long, straight legs were so eye-catching that one’s gaze stayed pinned on them almost instinctively.
It was Ji Fengjing.
When Ji Fengjing sensed a car behind him, he proactively stepped aside to clear the way. To his surprise, the black car suddenly pulled up and stopped right beside him.
The window rolled down slowly, revealing a handsome, chiseled face.
Ji Fengjing was slightly stunned. Since they had met several times now, he offered a greeting. “Wen… uh, hello, Brother Shen.”
Wen Xingshen looked at the massive pile in his arms and asked, “Need help?”
Ji Fengjing shook his head quickly. “No, I’m strong.”
Wen Xingshen thought about it and realized that was true—the man’s strength was far from ordinary. The memory of the two shattered windows from the other day was still vivid.
And then there was the memory of that narrow, pale waist.
Wen Xingshen: “…” His ears felt a bit hot. What am I thinking?
He quickly realized he wasn’t exactly the “helpful stranger” type. Why had he suddenly felt the urge to offer assistance?
Wen Xingshen composed his face into a mask of indifference. “Oh.”
With that, he rolled up the window and drove off, leaving Ji Fengjing in the dust.
Ji Fengjing, who hadn’t even had the chance to say thank you: “???”
This guy… is a little weird!
