Su Hao Got Beaten Up

Chapter 5 • 1,369 words • 12 min read

“Your injuries—who did this?”

Gu Yanzhou only focused on his own questions, completely ignoring the clear dismissal.

Su Nanxing’s lips curled into a self-deprecating smile.

“Su Bingtian. My father.”

Gu Yanzhou frowned.

“Why?”

“Why?”

Su Nanxing spoke slowly, as if hearing a joke.

“Because yesterday at Qiuming Mountain, Su Hao was unhappy.”

Gu Yanzhou had already guessed the gist, but hearing it aloud still stirred a surge of fury within him.

A father disciplining his son was only natural.

But here?

The man had hurt someone he cared about.

That could never be natural.

A soft knock came from outside.

Gu Yanzhou got up to open the door.

A-Kai stood at the entrance, a black suitcase in his right hand and a delicately packaged takeout in his left, his expression as respectful as ever.

He delivered the items into the apartment without a word, then turned and slipped out, quietly pulling the door shut behind him.

Su Nanxing stared at the suddenly appeared suitcase in the middle of the living room, momentarily dazed.

He looked up at Gu Yanzhou.

“Mr. Gu, this is…”

Gu Yanzhou paid no attention to his astonishment.

He began opening the takeout, his tone calm but brooking no argument.

“Eat first. I’m staying here tonight.”

Su Nanxing opened his mouth, too shocked to respond.

“Inconvenient?”

Gu Yanzhou lifted his gaze, his eyes heavy, leaving no room for refusal.

“I already checked out of my hotel when I came. I don’t want to go back and forth.”

The refusal on Su Nanxing’s lips died in his throat.

For the head of the Hengrui Group to stoop to personally tend to his wounds was already beyond generous.

Kicking him out in the dead of night would be far too ungrateful, too lacking in tact.

The dinner was all light, mild dishes.

Su Nanxing had returned from the Su residence that afternoon, having been punished, and hadn’t touched a drop of water or food.

He was ravenous.

The two ate in silence, no unnecessary conversation.

Soon after, A-Kai came in, cleared the table quickly, and left without a sound.

Only the two of them remained in the living room.

The air grew stagnant.

Su Nanxing usually dared to tease and test, but now, still battered and with his wounds aching, he felt nothing but discomfort.

The awkwardness was almost unbearable.

“Mr. Gu, I’ll head to my room first.”

He steadied his voice as best he could, pointing.

“The guest room is that way. Make yourself at home.”

Without waiting for a reply, he hurried into the bedroom and gently closed the door, shutting out the eyes behind him.

Gu Yanzhou sat on the sofa, staring at the closed door for a long time.

He suppressed the turmoil in his heart again and again, but in the end, he rose and went to the guest room.

In the middle of the night, the master bedroom door was unlocked.

Gu Yanzhou opened it easily.

On the large bed, Su Nanxing was sleeping poorly, the pain in his back keeping him restless.

His brows were knitted into a deep furrow, the corners of his eyes flushed faintly red, his long lashes trembling uneasily as if tangled in invisible agony.

His lips were slightly parted, and from them escaped broken, suppressed whimpers.

The sounds were as light as feathers, yet each one pierced Gu Yanzhou’s heart.

Gu Yanzhou stepped softly to the bedside and leaned over, watching his pained expression, his chest tightening.

He reached out his wide, warm hand, gently covering Su Nanxing’s cool cheek.

His thumb tenderly wiped the fine sweat from Su Nanxing’s forehead, his movements so soft he feared waking him.

As if seeking the only source of comfort, Su Nanxing instinctively buried his entire face into that warm palm, his nose lightly brushing against Gu Yanzhou’s fingers.

His taut features slowly relaxed, his rapid breathing gradually calmed, and the painful moans dissipated into the air.

At last, he fell into a peaceful sleep.

Su Nanxing had a rare good night’s sleep, waking only when the sun was high.

He sat up, looking at the rumpled sheets around him.

He found it strange: given his back injury, how had he rolled around so much without feeling any pain?

He gently rotated his shoulder, and a sharp, piercing pain confirmed that his injuries had not improved.

The bedroom door opened quietly, and Gu Yanzhou walked straight in.

He sat on the edge of the bed and reached out to feel Su Nanxing’s forehead.

Fortunately, no fever.

After a simple breakfast, A-Kai arrived with a doctor, who carefully examined the wounds on Su Nanxing’s back.

“It’s fine—just superficial injuries. I’ll prescribe some medicine and give you an IV. You’ll recover in a few days.”

The doctor applied the medication, inserted the IV needle, and left.

Gu Yanzhou had dinner with Su Nanxing, then buried himself in work in the living room.

Su Nanxing was hesitating, wanting to ask if Gu would stay again tonight.

But Gu Yanzhou closed his laptop.

“I’m heading back to the capital soon. A-Kai will stay to take care of you. If you need anything, tell him.”

A flicker of loss passed through Su Nanxing’s eyes, but he quickly regained his obedient demeanor.

“Okay.”

“The doctor will come every day to change your dressing and clean your back. Don’t let the wounds get wet these few days.”

“It’s fine. Brother Kai is here; he can apply the medicine. No need to trouble the doctor to make a special trip.”

Su Nanxing got up from the sofa and walked the guest to the entrance.

Gu Yanzhou paused mid-step, his sharp gaze boring into A-Kai’s face, causing it to prickle.

A-Kai understood that look: except for the doctor, no one else was to apply medicine for Su Nanxing!

A chill ran down his spine.

Even with ten—no, a hundred times the courage, he wouldn’t dare touch a single inch of Su Nanxing.

Not only that, he also had to prevent others from doing so.

Especially that Lu Ran.

Three days after Gu Yanzhou left, Lu Ran came to the apartment.

Lu Ran stared at the muscular man standing outside the door, momentarily stunned.

“Xingxing, when did you get such a handsome bodyguard? Looks pretty skilled. Did Su Bingtian have a change of heart, afraid you’d have an ‘accident’ like Su Hao?”

Su Nanxing glanced at the man standing upright outside, his displeasure evident.

These past few days, A-Kai had been monitoring his every move.

Just now, when he tried to close the door, A-Kai had blocked it with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, saying with mock seriousness: “Second Young Master Su, keeping the door open is good for your recovery.”

In terms of strength, Su Nanxing was no match for him.

Su Nanxing gave a cold laugh.

A bodyguard? More like a mobile door god.

Whether he could close his own door was no longer his decision.

Lu Ran didn’t get an answer, so he waved his hand.

“Xingxing, what’s wrong?”

Su Nanxing snapped back.

“Ah… nothing. What did you just say about Su Hao?”

Lu Ran looked shocked.

“You don’t know? Su Hao must have offended someone. Last night, he was viciously beaten right at his own doorstep. I heard his whole back was split open—ripped apart, a real mess. It’ll probably take at least a month to recover.”

“Hey, Xingxing, you should be careful when you go out too. If Su Hao brought it on himself, that’s one thing, but if it’s a family enemy, it might spill over onto you.”

Su Nanxing glanced at the ‘door god’ standing outside—those strong, muscular arms obvious signs of training.

He pretended to sympathize with Su Hao for half a second, but the corners of his mouth betrayed him immediately.

‘Sympathy for him? That was a joke!’

The wounds on Su Nanxing’s back had healed by more than half.

Lu Ran didn’t notice anything unusual.

He kept dragging Su Nanxing to play games on the sofa.

After dinner, Su Nanxing forced himself to keep playing with him.

The phone kept ringing incessantly, but it didn’t disturb the two engrossed in their game.
