Chapter 5: Victory and Unmasking: The Fall of a Star

[WheelNine: Wow! I’m genuinely upset. You’re just throwing around hundreds of thousands of won in this chat like it’s nothing.]

[RecklessOfficeWorker: That’s funny. I spend the money I earn, so what’s the problem? You’re bold for someone who survives off donors like me. Ever heard of… shame? Haha.]

A sudden intervention by RecklessOfficeWorker.

The two of them started bickering, slinging verbal jabs at each other.

Why are they causing a scene on someone else’s stream?

As a small-time streamer, I can’t just jump in and say something.

It’s a tricky situation.

For now, I canceled the game I was queuing for.

Should I greet WheelNine’s fans?

I mean, they’ll probably leave soon enough, but they’re influential viewers.

Ignoring them entirely wouldn’t be wise.

“Hello, WheelNine fans. It’s nice to meet you.”

[You think it’s nice?]

[Shut up.]

[Feeling good about stealing viewers and donations from another streamer?]

[What a mess, geez.]

[You’re trash, delete your account.]

[Ugh, I can’t stand WheelNine’s viewers.]

[Because of you, WheelNine is pissed off now.]

What a disaster. Instead of a warm welcome, I got nothing but insults.

I should’ve just kept my mouth shut. One comment, and now it’s turned into a battlefield.

Existing viewers and WheelNine’s fans are tearing into each other, leaving nasty comments.

What should I do? I’ve never dealt with this kind of situation before and have no idea how to respond.

[Yuseong, in these situations, it’s best to stay quiet… RecklessOfficeWorker seems to be handling it, so just go along with it.]

A whisper popped up—it was advice from Dajjang. Wow, even in this chaos, Dajjang remains calm.

For a moment, they felt like a strategist coming up with a game plan. Reassuring, to say the least.

[RecklessOfficeWorker has donated 100,000 won.]

[Alright, fine. I’ll decide the punishment.

If Yuseong loses, they’ll reveal their face and do a Zero Two dance.

If Nine loses, she’ll wipe off her makeup and stream bare-faced. Deal?]

[WheelNine: What kind of childish nonsense is this?]

[RecklessOfficeWorker: What, are you scared? Haha.]

RecklessOfficeWorker proposed a new punishment.

Hmm… I don’t know. Streaming bare-faced might pose some risk for WheelNine.

The chat seemed to share my confusion.

[Chairman, that’s a masterstroke, haha.]

[Bare-faced stream incoming!]

[Wow, this is rare content.]

[But will Nine even lose?]

[Right? Nine’s in Gold, and this guy hasn’t even finished placement matches.]

[Ah, I knew RecklessOfficeWorker wouldn’t disappoint! Trustworthy as always!]

The response was overwhelmingly positive. It was as if this outcome was exactly what they wanted.

Sure, the assumption that I’ll lose stings my pride, but it is what it is.

After all, I’ve only played one League of Legends stream for two hours so far.

For now, I’m content that the criticism has simmered down.

[RecklessOfficeWorker: Let’s just do it, okay? The fans want it. Or… are you afraid of losing?]

[WheelNine: I’m in Gold. Haha, fine, let’s do it. I’m curious to see if this streamer can maintain their composure after showing their face. Haha.]

[RecklessOfficeWorker: Nine has agreed. Yuseong, what about you?]

“Sure, I’m fine with whatever you both want.”

And so, the 1v1 mid-lane duel began. I joined the custom game room WheelNine invited me to.

The mode was blind pick—I couldn’t see what champion WheelNine would choose.

[Just pick whatever champion you want. The first one to get a kill or destroy a turret wins. You can recall as much as you like. Got it?]

[Got it.]

[Also, freeze the chat. People might start saying disruptive stuff because of stream-sniping.]

[Understood.]

“Freezing the chat now.”

After reading WheelNine’s explanation, I froze the chat.

[GodYuseong, please win .]

[Just lose and get ready for Zero Two, lol.]

[Man, I kinda want Nine to do a phone stream without makeup. Can this guy even win?]

[He’s actually decent, lol.]

[Please lose. I wanted to cut his mask with scissors earlier, haha.]

The chat, full of people cheering for their streamer’s loss, came to a halt.

Now it was a clean slate—just the game to focus on.

Time to choose my champion. Do I really need to overthink this? I hit the random button. As long as it’s not Yuumi…

“Teemo reporting in, sir!”

Ah, great. Of all the champions, it had to be Teemo.

Teemo’s strong in lane, so it’s not a bad pick for this situation, but I personally dislike the character. Too simple in terms of mechanics.

Oh well, at least it’ll attract attention.

I glanced at the viewer count. 1,800 people.

Incredible, really. A lot of them are probably WheelNine’s fans, but I didn’t expect this many viewers in my stream on my first day.

“Huh? Nasus?”

The pick-ban phase ended, and the loading screen popped up. WheelNine had chosen Nasus.

Well, Nasus isn’t bad. It’s a smart choice for someone confident.

Nasus is known as a “late-game king” champion.

However, his lack of mobility makes him less viable in higher tiers.

Still, his ability to stack and dominate late-game fights is why he shines.

In a 1v1 game like this, though, he’d likely go for AP Nasus, maxing his E skill for its wide range and strong damage.

If you don’t know how to counter it, the laning phase can be a nightmare. If you don’t know how, that is.

[Nine, they picked Teemo, lol. Go AP Nasus—you know how to play it, right? Just spam E every cooldown, and Teemo will have a field day, haha.]

I checked the message from a fan and immediately closed it.

“What kind of idiot picks Teemo? Must have a death wish. Streamers are all attention-seekers anyway.”

I muttered to myself as if talking to no one.

“Alright, I’ll go with this. Everyone, I’m about to show you my Amaterasu Nasus.”

The game began. Teemo spawned in the fountain at the 1 o’clock position.

After buying items, he made his way to mid-lane.

[All Chat][Nasus: Ugh, of all champs, why Teemo? This is going to be rough from the start.]

[All Chat][Teemo: Should we remake? I’ll leave and remake the room.]

[All Chat][Nasus: Shut the hell up, you idiot.]

[All Chat][Teemo: ?]

[All Chat][Nasus: Let’s just play, haha. I’m not the type to cry about a bad draft and remake games.]

Of course, of course. How noble of you.

Building up the drama for your stream content, are you?

My apologies for ruining your grand narrative.

I clicked on Nasus. As expected, he had a Doran’s Ring in his inventory, an AP item.

Struggling from the start, my foot. Who does he think he’s fooling?

How should I cook this guy? I thought as I waited for the minions to spawn.

At 1:30 into the game, the first wave of minions clashed in the middle of the lane, marking the start of the battle.

WheelNine, under normal circumstances, would’ve dramatically shouted, “Amaterasu!” before using his E skill.

But with me keeping a significant distance from my allied minions, he seemed completely lost.

Confused and disoriented, Nasus—staff in hand—was practically doing the dizzy dance.

To counter Nasus’s E skill, the key is maintaining enough distance so that both champions and minions aren’t hit simultaneously.

This forces the Nasus player to choose between damaging the champion or clearing minions to push the lane.

Positioning yourself far from minions on the side usually comes with risks, especially if you don’t have vision, as it makes you vulnerable to jungle ganks.

But since this is a one-on-one match, I didn’t have to worry about that.

Thud!

Ultimately, WheelNine made his choice: attack Teemo.

While I took some damage, Nasus’s level 1 skill isn’t particularly strong yet, so it wasn’t too concerning.

Plus, he’s slow—he hasn’t learned the W skill for movement speed yet, and he doesn’t have boots.

His attacks are fairly easy to dodge early on.

The more time passes, the easier it’ll get to deal with him.

While Nasus’s E skill was on cooldown, I pushed the lane using my Q poison dart skill and auto-attacks to chip away at him.

“Ugh, what the hell! Is this a bug or something? Why doesn’t my E hit?”

Something was definitely off. In the early exchanges, the trades were fairly even.

But after we both went back to base once, the dynamics completely shifted.

WheelNine’s E skill simply couldn’t connect.

I wouldn’t give him a chance to enter his attack range.

Even when he carefully aimed and timed his attack to catch me within the skill’s area, I’d slip out at the perfect moment as if I were reading his mind.

“Goddamn it! This doesn’t make sense!”

“Why do you keep going home? Hiding something tasty over there?”

The match was over.

WheelNine kept retreating back to base to recover after taking constant harassment.

Because of this, his turret was barely holding on—just a few more auto-attacks, and it would crumble.

There was no need to score a kill to win this game.

He kept playing defensively, retreating over and over.

It’s hard to finish off an opponent like him with Teemo, so I decided to just focus on the turret and end it.

[All Chat][Nasus: Please let me off just this once T_T]

I didn’t feel obligated to respond. I’m not the type to drag out a finished game.

I delivered the final hit, destroying the turret.

[Turret destroyed.]

A clean victory.

While I couldn’t pull off any flashy plays as Teemo, I was satisfied with the outcome—especially given the massive donation tied to my win condition.

Feeling good, I reopened the chat window.

[“That Teemo play was insane! Isn’t it hard to go against AP Nasus?”]

[“Ahaha, WheelNine lost! Haha, too bad~”]

[“Thank. You.”]

[“You’re amazing at this game, haha. Gotta go, see ya!”]

[“Get lost, you annoying WheelNine stans!”]

WheelNine’s fans seemed delighted despite his loss.

I’d worried there might be lingering bad blood, but it was clearly unwarranted.

Still, I couldn’t quite understand.

What’s so great about WheelNine anyway? As a person, he’s so immature.

[RecklessOfficeWorker has donated 2,000,000 won.]

[“Here’s the 2 million won I promised. That game was great to watch. Very refreshing~^-^”]

“Oh! RecklessOfficeWorker! Thank you! I really don’t feel like I did much to deserve such a generous donation.”

True to his word, he sent the 2 million won donation.

I made sure to show my gratitude as earnestly as possible.

Honestly, how much did I earn today? All I did was turn on the stream and play a game.

Is it really okay to make money this easily?

Who is this person, anyway? To throw around money like this without a second thought—it made me curious.

[RecklessOfficeWorker: If you’re thankful, can you do me a small favor later?]

“Huh? Of course! Just let me know what you’d like.”

[RecklessOfficeWorker: Okay, keep it in mind. For now, let’s go watch WheelNine’s stream. He just started a mobile stream.]

“Is it okay to watch? Isn’t that considered stream sniping?”

Stream sniping is when a streamer enters another streamer’s broadcast and rebroadcasts it on their own stream.

While the streaming community is generally lenient about it, I hesitated, not wanting to risk causing any issues.

[“It’s a tradition to watch punishment reactions on the loser’s stream after winning, lol.”]

[“Go, go!”]

[“It’s fine, just do it, haha.”]

“All right! Heading over now.”

I opened a new tab and navigated to the Twika TV homepage.

No need to search—WheelNine’s stream thumbnail was prominently displayed at the top of the list.

[“Performing my no-makeup punishment…”]

Eighty thousand viewers. To a newbie streamer like me, that number was incomprehensibly huge.

Say what you will about him as a person, but big names are big names for a reason.

The chat was on fire, moving so quickly it was hard to read anything.

[“Where’s our prince? What’s taking so long?”]

[“With his class, even bare-faced, he’ll still look handsome, right?”]

The chat was flooded with similar comments.

“Ta-da! Sorry for the wait!”

Finally, WheelNine appeared on screen, giving a wink while closing one eye.

The sight was so cringeworthy I nearly gagged. Where on earth did he learn to make such greasy, over-the-top gestures?

[“???”]

[“?”]

[“What’s this?”]

[“???”]

The chat suddenly slowed, the mood growing chilly.

Looking briefly flustered, WheelNine puffed out his cheeks and leaned into the camera.

[“Don’t get mad~ My face is just naturally this flawless. Even without makeup, it looks like I’m wearing some, you know? Took forever to clean it off, though~ Ai-ying~!”]

[“Did he accidentally wipe his face off along with the makeup?”]

[“Damn, he looks… rough.”]

[“Can’t believe I ever stan’d this guy. What a waste.”]

[“Quit streaming, bro.”]

[“It’s fascinating—his features individually aren’t bad, but together? Just weird.”]

[“Refund my donation, you jerk!”]

The chat exploded with harsh comments directed at WheelNine.

The insults came at such a rapid pace that the chat’s momentum didn’t slow.

“Okay, well, let’s see your bare faces, then… Ugh, screw this.”

On the verge of tears, WheelNine muttered curses under his breath and abruptly ended the stream.

“Well, uh… his stream’s over.”

What did I just witness? That secondhand embarrassment was unbearable.

I cleared my throat awkwardly, trying to shake off the discomfort.

While I disliked him as a streamer, seeing him crash and burn like that left me feeling a little sorry for him.

I’d wanted to defeat him fair and square with my skills and strip away his prestige that way.

This was… anticlimactic.

[[God] RecklessOfficeWorker has donated 100,000 won.]

[“Yuseong, now that you’ve watched, it’s time to do me that favor.”]

Oh, right. I’d agreed to do a favor for him. What could it be? He’s such an unpredictable and extravagant person that I couldn’t even begin to guess.

Also, what’s with the “[God]” title in front of his name? It oddly caught my eye.
