Unexpected Visitors and a New Inquiry

Chapter 52 • 1,023 words • 9 min read

“Bang!”

The ward door suddenly burst open, revealing three figures at the entrance.

“President?” Bingying exclaimed in surprise.

It wasn’t just Ye Siya. Yang Mingzhi and Ye Dieyu had also appeared before them. When the three of them had gathered together, Luo Tianchen couldn’t say.

“President, don’t you have student council work to handle? Yang Mingzhi, weren’t you supposed to be helping your father prepare for his fortieth birthday? And Ye Dieyu, didn’t you say you’d be spending the entire day at the library?” Bingying questioned each of them in turn.

“Oh, how should I put it?” The President said, scratching her head with a grin. “Some minor matter suddenly required me to come to the hospital. I just happened to hear that Luo Tianchen was here, so I came to check in.”

‘What “minor matter” could possibly bring someone to the hospital?’ Luo Tianchen wondered.

“Me? Of course, I came to see Luo Tianlian. Where is she?” Yang Mingzhi laughed heartily, holding a bouquet of flowers that clearly looked expensive.

‘She’s right in front of you,’ Luo Tianchen thought, ‘but she absolutely won’t accept those.’

“An acquaintance is here,” Ye Dieyu merely stated.

‘I see. A relative, perhaps?’ Luo Tianchen mused. Among the three, her reason was the most plausible.

“So, you all just happened to gather here by chance?” Luo Tianchen inquired.

The three exchanged glances. Finally, Ye Siya nodded. “It seems that way. We originally intended to knock, but for some reason, the door just opened when we pushed it. Then we saw you two in that state…”

“Oh dear, how terribly awkward. Perhaps we should step out and wait for ten minutes?”

‘What kind of joke was that? You truly underestimate me. If I were serious, you’d have to wait until nightfall,’ Luo Tianchen thought.

Still, it was fortunate that the President and the others arrived. Otherwise, if something had happened in a moment of impulse, Luo Tianchen would have regretted it eternally.

Luo Tianchen breathed a sigh of relief inwardly, while on the surface, he feigned nonchalance. “What are you talking about? Bingying just slipped accidentally, and I couldn’t pull her up, so we both fell.”

“Ah, so that’s what happened.”

“I see.”

“Oh.”

The three naturally accepted Luo Tianchen’s explanation.

“Hold on a minute, you guys! Why did you believe him so easily?” Bingying retorted.

“Well, it is Luo Tianchen, after all.”

“How could he possibly have the guts to push a girl down first thing in the morning? Especially Bingying. Now, if it were the President, that might be a different story.”

“Hey, do you have a death wish?” Bingying clenched her fists, veins throbbing on her forehead.

“You won’t gain anything by complimenting me like that, you know?” Ye Siya said.

‘No, he wasn’t complimenting you at all,’ Luo Tianchen thought.

“In any case, as you can all see, I’m perfectly fine and can actually be discharged today. If there’s nothing else, please feel free to leave,” Luo Tianchen said blandly.

“Come on, come on, we’re old classmates; there’s no need to be so formal.” Yang Mingzhi affectionately sat in the empty spot on the other side of the bed, then whispered in Luo Tianchen’s ear, “Hey, how about giving me your sister’s contact information?”

Luo Tianchen gave him a sidelong glance and retorted grumpily, “Give you jack squat! With your character, you think you can even touch my sister?”

‘This is actually for your own good,’ Luo Tianchen thought. ‘If you really got involved with my sister, and she found out you were secretly seeing other girlfriends, with her yandere-like personality, she would absolutely make you pay with your life.’

“Oh, I just haven’t met the right one yet.” Yang Mingzhi shrugged. “I don’t know what it is, but just seeing her makes me feel like my soul has been redeemed. Huh? Why are you smiling so terrifyingly?”

‘If you don’t shut up,’ Luo Tianchen thought, ‘I’ll send you to meet God, and he can give you a *real* redemption.’

“Anyway, that means Luo Tianchen, you’re completely fine now, right? That’s wonderful!” The President clapped her hands, smiling. “It looks like we’ll be seeing you at school again. Thanks to your sister, our workload has significantly lightened. Wouldn’t you agree, Bingying?”

Luo Tianchen let out a dry chuckle. He noticed Bingying also wore an awkward expression, likely remembering the incident where she dragged him into the girls’ restroom and their meal together. Luo Tianchen understood perfectly.

“By the way, President, if I wanted to look up information on past students, where should I go?” Luo Tianchen asked on a whim.

“Hmm? For that, our school library would actually suffice.”

“Huh? Really?”

“Well, besides education, our school also serves various other functions, such as artifact preservation. In fact, our school’s collection is far richer than many famous museums outside.”

“Naturally, this includes a wealth of archival materials. However, this secret is only known to a select few students and high-ranking school officials.”

‘Ah, it truly surprises you what you learn when you ask,’ Luo Tianchen thought. ‘I never imagined our school possessed such capabilities.’

“But I’m no longer a student council member, am I? Is it alright for me to use it?”

“It’s fine, it’s fine, have you forgotten?” Ye Siya grinned as she hugged Ye Dieyu. “Our Ye Dieyu also holds the title of librarian. If you ask her, she’ll definitely pull some strings for you. Right, Xiaowu?”

Ye Dieyu remained as expressionless as ever, making it impossible to discern her thoughts.

“In that case, please, could you let me take a look?” Luo Tianchen tentatively asked her.

Ye Dieyu didn’t speak, simply nodding.

‘Presumably, that means yes, right?’ Luo Tianchen wondered.

Luo Tianchen exchanged a glance with Bingying. She immediately understood his unspoken request and said, “Ah, I also have some things I’d like to look up. May I come along?”

“Let’s go.” Ye Dieyu nodded again, then turned and departed.

“Ah, wait for me a moment! I still need to handle my discharge papers. Just a moment, I say!”
