Chapter 56 Part 10: New Year Event

Amy never told me about the people attending the year-end event.

As the event date approached, Amy got busier and busier.

I couldn’t see her at all except when she was eating, so I was starting to get a little frustrated.

“Jeff.”

“Yeah.”

I had finished studying for the day, so I was using my free time to watch YouTube.

Shine, who usually didn’t show any interest when I was on the computer, came over and sat down next to me.

“Something’s coming,” she muttered as she looked around.

She didn’t really feel wary.

Shine just glared at me as if she was annoyed.

“It’s up there.”

“Up there?”

Shine pointed to the ceiling of the room with her finger.

No, not the ceiling.

Probably beyond this room.

It meant there was something upstairs.

I jumped down from my chair and asked her.

“You’re in the park?”

The entire floor above us was a miniature park.

But Shine shook her head and answered.

“No, it’s up there.”

What on earth is there?

Unlike Shine, I couldn’t feel anything.

“I don’t know.”

“Um…”

It was a long time after that that I understood the meaning behind Shine’s words.

I was hanging the dinosaur pajamas I had washed in the washing machine on the clothesline, and I raised my head at the tingling sensation on my skin.

“Ouch…!”

Tingling.

A feeling like electricity was flowing.

There was something intense above me.

My white hair was fluttering and moving.

My ability was going out of control.

I urgently blocked my ability.

Since I intentionally blocked my ability, I no longer felt the tingling sensation on my skin.

I just instinctively felt that there was something above me.

Someone with the same ability as me.

Victor?

No, it was a completely different feeling from Victor.

The electricity that ran wild like a wild bull was completely different from Victor’s personality.

I quickly escaped from the bathroom.

“Shine!”

“Yeah.”

“There’s someone up there.”

“Yeah. I know.”

Shine and I were lying on the bed, looking at the ceiling and talking.

“Who could it be?”

“Could it be people attending the year-end event?”

“Is that so?” I muttered, wiping my empty arms.

Now that I had washed my dinosaur pajamas, I was wearing my usual pajamas.

Shine, too, seemed to regret losing her lovely tail, as she lay on the bed and wiggled her butt.

Was today the day of the year-end event?

I didn’t hear the exact date, but when I checked the date on the computer, it was the end of the year.

“I wanted to show off to Rain.”

Shine looked into the bathroom with eyes full of regret, as if she wanted to show off her dinosaur pajamas to Rain.

Inside the bathroom, when you open the small door and enter, you will find the drying room, a place where you can dry your laundry quickly.

“It’ll dry in no time.”

I hadn’t seen Rain since I received the dinosaur pajamas as a gift.

Just as Amy had said, she seemed incredibly busy.

“But won’t she come soon?” I said, holding Shine’s hand.

According to Amy, she and Rain Victor weren’t attending the year-end event.

That meant she would come to visit us soon.

“You can show me then.”

Even though I said that, it didn’t suit my temperament to just wait endlessly.

I was rolling around on the bed, so I jumped out of bed.

“Jeff?”

“Go upstairs.”

I immediately put on a thin jersey over my pajamas.

Shine, who was lying face down on the bed and looking at me, slowly got off the bed while wiggling.

“I want to go too.”

She also put on a thin jersey hanging near the entrance and came over to me.

It was getting close to bedtime.

If it were any other day, I would have been lying in bed watching TV, but unfortunately today, The Little Witch’s Great Adventure is not on air.

“I feel a little nervous for some reason.”

I opened the door and went out into the hallway.

The empty hallway gave off an eerie atmosphere.

Maybe it was because it was late.

There was not a single person in the hallway.

The brightly lit lights were the same as usual.

However, it was truly strange that the mere fact that there were no people, unlike usual, could create such a strange atmosphere.

I gulped as I looked down the long hallway and started walking forward.

Tap tap tap—Shine and my small footsteps bounced back at the end of the hallway.

I looked up at the ceiling as I walked down the hallway.

The tingling sensation I had felt earlier started again.

It was as if they were provoking me.

“Like this?” I muttered to myself and raised my power.

Ppajik—Blue currents scattered from my fingertips.

Since I was using the same power, I could tell how the other person had spread their power.

However, I couldn’t spread my power as widely as the other person.

I lifted the tips of my fingers and began to gauge the direction the other person was in.

Ppajik—My little finger acted as a lightning rod, gathering the currents scattered around into one place.

“Jeff? What are you doing?”

“Umm… Someone keeps bothering me.”

Ppajik!

The current field had become so large that I could clearly see it.

The opponent upstairs must have noticed me too, because he started to focus the current that was scattering in all directions toward me.

It wasn’t an ability that contained any hostile intentions.

It was just a feeling of slowly scanning my body as if exploring.

But it was unpleasant.

And it was extremely unpleasant.

I frowned and raised my ability.

I didn’t forget the control method that Victor had advised me.

The currents that were scattering in all directions began to gather into one and became a blue spear that I held in my hand.

“Wow…” I heard Shine exclaiming from the side.

I looked at the blue spear in my hand with a bewildered expression.

The blue spear began to absorb all the electricity I was drawing out.

The light gradually grew darker.

Eventually, it began to show an unstable appearance as if it was going to explode.

“Jeff?”

Panicked, I threw the blue spear in my hand with all my might.

With a feeling of “Ew-!” I moved my arm with all my might.

The moment my arm stopped moving, the blue spear left my hand.

The direction it flew was where the opponent using the same ability as me was.

The blue spear that shot towards the ceiling created a little soot and passed through the wall.

It flew.

It flew through the wall at a very fast speed.

It flew straight ahead, keeping the distance between me and the opponent in a straight line.

The blue spear continued to fly past the walls.

I felt its movement clearly.

At the same time, I was able to perfectly grasp the structure of this huge facility.

The moment it passed between the walls, the faintly scattered current conveyed information to me.

Boom!

I heard a sound that I shouldn’t have heard.

The distance was enormous.

The moment the blue spear I had sent flew towards the opponent and pierced him, a huge current scattered in all directions.

“Oh….”

The current that scattered in all directions clearly conveyed the situation of that place to me.

A movement mixed with panic.

I couldn’t hear any sound.

The countless people scattered in all directions showed their busy movements.

The opponent I shot with the blue spear shook his head and got up from his seat.

That was the end.

That was the end of the scene that I could feel.

“Jeff? Shine?”

“Ah…! Rain?”

I was twitching my fingers.

When I heard a familiar voice from the end of the hallway, I raised my head and saw Rain running towards me.

Shine and I also ran to meet Rain, who was smiling happily.

“Rain!”

“Hello!”

It had only been a few days, but it felt like it had been a long time since we last saw each other.

I grabbed Rain’s hand and shook it up and down.

“Did you forget your gymnastics?”

Shine also asked while holding Rain’s hand like me.

Rain nodded confidently.

“Of course! You work hard every day?”

“Good job.”

Shine smiled brightly and praised Rain.

Rain had been shy before, but now she seemed to be used to Shine’s compliments and naturally accepted her hand.

“Amy and Victor?”

“They’re waiting somewhere else.”

“Waiting?”

“Yeah. I came to pick you up.”

Rain grabbed my hand and Shine’s hand as if telling us to hurry up and go.

Shine and I looked at each other.

We exchanged glances for a moment.

Now we could understand each other’s intentions without having to say anything.

“I have something to show Rain!”

I grabbed Rain’s hand in return and pulled her.

“Huh?”

Of course, she could easily have pulled us away with force, but Rain was dragged towards us obediently.

It was a good thing.

With Rain’s ability, she could quickly dry her wet dinosaur pajamas.

We returned to our room and led Rain to the drying room.

“This is…!”

The moment they arrived at the drying room, Rain’s eyes sparkled and she approached our dinosaur pajamas.

“You guys… You’ve got suits…”

And that was the moment.

Tick-Tiddydick!

Small noises were heard continuously, and then the fluorescent lights suddenly went out.

At the same time, the drying room stopped operating and darkness fell all around.

A familiar feeling.

This was a power outage.

“Wow!!” At that moment, Rain’s exclamation of admiration burst out.

Her gaze was only directed to the dinosaur pajamas hanging under the clothesline.

The sight of the glow-in-the-dark dinosaur pajamas dripping water droplets and emitting a soft light captivated her.

She was surprised that the pajamas were glow-in-the-dark.

“Amazing! Me too! I’m going to ask them to put a glow-in-the-dark in them too!”

Beep-beep.

Rain was wrapped in a soft light and running around the dinosaur pajamas.

“Rain, dry that.”

Shine grabbed Rain, who was jumping around excitedly, and spoke quietly.

Rain, whose eyes were sparkling, calmed down, nodded, and reached out her hand.

“Yuck!”

With a small moan, Rain’s hand grabbed the air.

Immediately afterwards, the water that had been soaking through the pajamas flowed down.

“Wow…”

The pajamas became fluffy in an instant.

I approached and unhooked the clothespins holding the dinosaur’s shoulders.

“Thank you, Rain!”

Shine and I immediately began putting on the pajamas on the spot.

We put our feet in and pulled them up to our waists.

Then we put our arms in and fastened the zipper and buttons.

Finally, we put the dinosaur head hood over our heads to complete the look.

The perfect glow-in-the-dark dinosaur was born.

“Isn’t it cool?”

Shine spun the dinosaur’s tail around as if showing off to Rain.
