The Potion’s Bloom

Chapter 56 • 1,833 words • 16 min read

An entire month of meticulous observation had granted Lan Yucheng an unsettlingly profound understanding of Su Yiyi.

No longer content with passive recording and analysis, a darker, more direct desire for manipulation began to fester within her.

She recalled a small, colorless, and odorless ‘potion’ she had exchanged for a negligible sum from the system store long ago, when her efforts to capture Qing Xinxue had reached an impasse.

At the time, the system’s Little Sprite had remarked, quite meaningfully, that it was ‘suitable for solving the current problem.’

Now, she had finally discovered the most ‘appropriate’ use for this particular potion.

Building upon the ‘Deep Observation’ feature, the system’s auxiliary permissions had quietly unlocked a new function: [Environmental Micro-Manipulation Suggestions].

This wasn’t a universal key, but rather a tool that analyzed Su Yiyi’s behavioral patterns and security habits.

For instance, it noted her occasional forgetfulness in locking the sliding balcony door, or her old habit of stashing a spare key behind the hallway fire hydrant.

These insights provided Lan Yucheng with a ‘reasonable’ path for infiltration.

One night, as Su Yiyi worked late, Lan Yucheng, like a specter, silently entered Su Yiyi’s home, exploiting the loopholes highlighted by the system.

She didn’t switch on any lights, moving precisely through the darkness, guided solely by memory and the system’s three-dimensional model.

Her destination was clear: the kitchen.

Wearing gloves, her movements were feather-light.

She opened the spice rack, retrieving Su Yiyi’s usual olive oil bottle, the salt shaker, and the imported fruit jam she ate every morning for breakfast.

From her pocket, she produced the small vial of potion.

Using a dropper, she carefully drew a minute amount of the clear liquid and meticulously added it to these ingredients.

The system indicated that this potion required long-term, trace ingestion.

Combined with a specific substance, which the system referred to as an ‘activator,’ it would fully erupt under particular stimuli.

Its effect was to dismantle rationality and amplify subconscious desires, especially suppressed emotions and physical impulses.

She executed her task with extreme caution, ensuring the dosage was far too small to ever be detected in daily life.

Upon completion, she meticulously erased every trace, as if she had never been there.

Over the next few weeks, Lan Yucheng continued her performance as the ‘caring neighbor,’ all while calmly observing the potion’s cumulative effects.

She began to notice subtle changes in Su Yiyi.

Occasionally, Su Yiyi would gaze at her, lost in thought, her eyes holding a barely perceptible haze.

During one ‘accidental’ physical contact, when Lan Yucheng pretended to stumble and Su Yiyi caught her, Su Yiyi’s hand lingered on her arm for a fraction of a second longer than usual.

There was even an instance when Lan Yucheng ‘fell asleep’ while reading at Su Yiyi’s home.

Upon waking, she found Su Yiyi watching her, her gaze complex, only to quickly shift away the moment Lan Yucheng opened her eyes, a faint blush creeping up her ears.

Unbeknownst to Su Yiyi, the potion was subtly fermenting, eroding the carefully maintained boundaries of her rationality.

Lan Yucheng, meanwhile, was like a patient gardener, nurturing the poisonous flower of ‘desire’ she had personally planted.

To outsiders, the relationship between the two women seemed to have genuinely returned to its pre-conflict state, perhaps even becoming more ‘harmonious.’

Su Yiyi’s wariness toward Lan Yucheng gradually dissolved under the dual influence of the potion and Lan Yucheng’s exquisite acting.

She began to invite Lan Yucheng to dinner more frequently, sharing amusing anecdotes from work, her gentle gaze seemingly tinged with something more ineffable.

The Night of the Fall

A month later, on a Friday evening, Su Yiyi deliberately prepared a lavish dinner and invited Lan Yucheng over.

Aromatherapy candles flickered on the dining table, creating a warm and ambiguous atmosphere.

Su Yiyi wore a comfortable house dress, her hair loosely tied up, a faint blush gracing her cheeks, whether from the kitchen’s heat or something else entirely.

“Try this, it’s a new dish I learned to make,” Su Yiyi said, her voice softer than usual, as she served Lan Yucheng a portion.

Lan Yucheng accepted with a smile, her heart, however, remained as cold as ice.

She knew the time was drawing near.

The potion’s effects had accumulated to a critical point, needing only the final ‘activator.’

And that activator was the rich, mellow red wine in her hand, which Su Yiyi had just poured for her—the system had indicated this was the catalyst that would react violently with the previously ingested potion.

They ate and chatted, the atmosphere growing increasingly relaxed.

Su Yiyi spoke more than usual, her gaze growing more viscous, occasionally lingering on Lan Yucheng’s lips or neck.

Lan Yucheng could clearly ‘hear’ the system monitoring Su Yiyi’s emotional fluctuation index slowly climbing, approaching the preset threshold.

Just then, Su Yiyi’s phone rang; it was an urgent work matter.

She gave Lan Yucheng an apologetic look and rose, heading towards her study: “I’ll just take this call, I’ll be right back.”

The opportunity had arrived.

The moment the study door closed, the gentle smile in Lan Yucheng’s eyes instantly vanished, replaced by a cheetah-like precision and cold ruthlessness.

She swiftly picked up Su Yiyi’s wine glass from the table, pouring the remaining half-glass from her own cup, along with the last few drops of a more concentrated ‘activator’ hidden in her cuff, into Su Yiyi’s glass.

She gently swirled it to ensure a thorough mix.

The entire process took no more than ten seconds.

Su Yiyi returned shortly, resuming her seat with a hint of apology.

She naturally picked up her glass and took a large sip, seemingly eager to alleviate the irritation caused by the phone call.

Lan Yucheng’s heartbeat remained steady; she simply watched her.

The dinner continued.

Approximately ten minutes later, the potion’s effects began to erupt violently.

Su Yiyi suddenly stopped eating, her cheeks flushed with an unnatural redness, and her breathing became rapid.

She pressed a hand to her forehead, her eyes starting to lose focus, her voice strangely hoarse: “Xiao Cheng… I… I suddenly feel a bit dizzy… so hot…”

Lan Yucheng immediately adopted an expression of concern, rising to stand beside her and reaching out to steady her shoulders: “Yiyi-jie? What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

The moment her hand touched Su Yiyi’s shoulder, Su Yiyi trembled violently as if struck by an electric current!

She lifted her head, and the look in her eyes towards Lan Yucheng had completely transformed!

It was no longer the usual gentle rationality, but filled with raw, untamed desire and an almost fierce possessiveness!

The potion had thoroughly shattered the dam of her reason, twisting and amplifying all the suppressed, complex emotions in her subconscious towards Lan Yucheng—perhaps concern, pity, and even a hint of attraction she herself hadn’t noticed—into the most direct physiological impulses!

“Xiao Cheng…” Su Yiyi’s voice was hoarse, carrying a dangerously magnetic quality Lan Yucheng had never heard before.

She abruptly seized Lan Yucheng’s hand on her shoulder with astonishing force, yanking her violently into her embrace!

Lan Yucheng, feigning ‘surprise,’ gasped as Su Yiyi’s powerful pull threw her off balance, slamming her onto the dining table!

Dishes clattered, emitting a harsh, grating sound.

“Yiyi-jie! What are you doing! Let go of me!”

Lan Yucheng struggled, her face contorted in ‘terror’ and ‘disbelief,’ her voice trembling with just the right amount of fear.

But inwardly, she was a maelstrom of cold calculation and a hint of triumphant madness.

Su Yiyi loomed over her, her eyes burning with uncontrolled flames.

She leaned down, her hot breath fanning Lan Yucheng’s ear, carrying the scent of red wine and desire: “Don’t move… Cheng Cheng… you smell so good… I want you… I want you now…”

“No! Stop it! Su Yiyi, you’re insane! Let go of me!” Lan Yucheng continued her ‘resistance,’ struggling with all her might, even scratching at Su Yiyi’s arm with her nails, leaving red marks.

Her curses were laced with sobs: “How could you! I misjudged you! Bastard! Scum!”

Each curse seemed to fuel Su Yiyi’s uncontrolled desire.

Su Yiyi had completely lost her mind; she used her knee to pry apart Lan Yucheng’s struggling legs, roughly tearing at her clothing, her actions devoid of any tenderness, driven purely by instinctive predation.

The cold touch of the dining table and the scorching heat of the body above her formed a cruel contrast.

Lan Yucheng tightly closed her eyes, enduring the storm-like assault.

The physical pain was real, yet in her mind, she calmly assessed: the intensity, the duration, the degree of Su Yiyi’s loss of control… All of it was within her expectations, or rather, precisely what she had orchestrated.

When it finally ended, Su Yiyi, as if utterly spent, collapsed onto her, her breathing heavy.

After a brief silence, the potion’s effects seemed to recede, and rationality gradually returned.

Su Yiyi’s body suddenly stiffened.

She lifted her head, looking at the disarray beneath her, at Lan Yucheng’s disheveled clothes, the clear tear stains on her pale face, the red marks on her arm, and everything that she herself had caused.

Her gaze shifted from hazy to shocked, then to immense panic and an unbelievable self-loathing.

“I… what have I done…” Her voice trembled, as if horrified by her own actions, and she abruptly sprang away from Lan Yucheng, stumbling backward and knocking over a chair.

She stared at her hands, as if they were stained with blood.

Lan Yucheng slowly sat up, pulling her torn clothes together, curling into herself, burying her face in her knees.

Her shoulders trembled slightly, emitting suppressed, aggrieved sobs.

She did not look at Su Yiyi again, but every subtle movement and sound silently accused the other’s brutality.

Su Yiyi looked at Lan Yucheng like this, her face ashen, an immense wave of guilt and confusion threatening to consume her.

She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but no sound escaped.

Finally, as if unable to face any of it, she turned and fled the dining room, rushing back to her bedroom and slamming the door shut.

Only Lan Yucheng remained in the room.

She slowly raised her head, her face utterly devoid of tears.

There was only an icy calm, and a faint, unsettling curve to her lips.

She had succeeded.

Under the influence of the drug, Su Yiyi had committed an irreversible act against her.

Given Su Yiyi’s character, this intense guilt and sense of responsibility would become the most unbreakable shackles.

‘If even this isn’t enough, Su Yiyi, if you still try to escape, still try to push me away,’ Lan Yucheng thought coldly, ‘then next time, I’ll have to use an even more thorough, more irresistible method to keep you locked by my side forever.’

For Xiao Xue, she was willing to drag herself into this mire of desire, and Su Yiyi, along with her.
