‘Karl… Brother… this is bad,’ Os thought, a sense of dread rising within him. ‘We don’t know which Legion Commander is coming, but… no matter who it is, if they witness Princess Soronna’s relationship with Lady Domu… they might react drastically, completely unaware of the truth.’
Beyond their small group, no one knew that Lady Domu, the legendary mercenary known as the “Silver Reaper,” was actually a woman.
Should a Legion Commander of the Norachi Kingdom, utterly devoted to the Empress, see the Princess—who ranked second only to the monarch and was next in line for the throne—engaging in such intimate gestures with an unknown man, unimaginable consequences would surely unfold.
Indeed, Soronna was no ordinary girl. She was the Princess of the Norachi Kingdom, one of the three most powerful nations on the Klaham Continent. Furthermore, she was the sole heir of Empress Sorandilis Imdoer, the most revered and wisest ruler in the kingdom.
“Os… no matter which Legion Commander arrives this time, we must prevent this from happening,” Karl said, his voice firm. “Even if it means revealing our identities to Princess Soronna, it’s a risk we must take.”
Karl, too, had grasped the gravity of the situation. He knew precisely the depth of reverence Norachi Kingdom’s Legion Commanders held for their Empress. It transcended all else, even life itself. To dedicate everything to Her Majesty was the highest honor for any Norachi soldier.
Therefore, if any Legion Commander were to witness the Empress’s only heir, the Princess of the Norachi Kingdom, engaging in overly intimate actions with a stranger, they would undoubtedly intervene. Even if the man were a demigod-level powerhouse, they would fight without hesitation to uphold the Empress’s dignity.
For a Norachi Legion Commander, whose loyalty to the Empress was absolute, the Princess was an existence of unparalleled nobility, and no man could be deemed worthy of her.
“But, Brother Karl, what should we do? Besides, we promised Lady Domu we’d look after Lady Dora,” Os replied, a frown creasing his brow. He couldn’t think of a solution, torn between his promise to Domu and the urgent need to protect the Princess.
“Os… little Miss Dora should be safe, and Billy is still with her,” Karl said, his thoughts racing. He then rose from his seat, glanced toward Dora’s room, and added, “Our immediate priority is to prevent anything that could expose Princess Soronna’s identity.”
“Brother Karl… what if… something happens to Lady Dora? How will we explain it to Lady Domu?” Os asked. Despite the Princess’s urgent situation, he still felt it was too dangerous to leave Dora alone at the inn, even with Billy there.
“Os, you must understand, we are first and foremost warriors of the Norachi Kingdom, dedicated to Princess Soronna,” Karl stated, his gaze fixed intently on Os. “Only second are we mercenaries named Karl and Os. What you should be considering now is how to prevent what’s about to happen without exposing Princess Soronna’s identity.”
“And also… if an unavoidable battle truly breaks out… whose side should we take?” Karl’s tone was stern.
“Yes… yes, Brother Karl… I understand,” Os replied, jolted by Karl’s words. “However… if a battle truly occurs, Brother Karl… even a Legion Commander… might not be able to contend with Lady Domu, right?” Despite his newfound clarity, Os couldn’t help but voice his lingering concern.
“…That’s precisely why we must prevent such a situation!” Karl hoped fervently that the Legion Commander arriving in Morgan City would be one of the few with whom he shared a good relationship. And more than anything, he prayed it wouldn’t be His Excellency, the Second Legion Commander, who was notoriously troublesome. Karl glanced at Os, his brows furrowed in deep thought.
“Billy, Os and I have an urgent matter to attend to outside,” Karl said, turning to Billy, who looked at him with a puzzled expression. “So I can only ask you to take good care of little Miss Dora. Can you do that?”
Upon hearing Karl’s words, Billy’s three eyes narrowed with disdain. He then stood up on his two plump hind legs, extended a small paw, and pointed toward Dora’s sleeping room upstairs.
“Uh… Os, what does Billy mean? You have a good relationship with it; quickly, translate for me…” Karl asked, utterly bewildered.
Os gazed at Billy’s three eyes for a moment, then calmly relayed Billy’s message to Karl. “Brother Karl, Billy is saying… ‘You two weaklings, hurry up and scram… just leave the care of the Angel Lord to this great one. Also… quickly carry this great one to the Angel Lord’s side; this great one has eaten too much and cannot move.’… That’s all.”
“O-Os… how did you deduce such profound meaning from those simple gestures?” Karl exclaimed, his voice laced with exasperation. “And… are you sure it was necessary to repeat all of it to me? Moreover… why aren’t you moving already? Do you expect me, a patient who has lost too much blood, to carry it?” Karl gestured helplessly at Billy, who sat on the table with a round belly and an arrogant expression.
“My apologies, Brother! I’ll immediately take Billy to Lady Dora!” Os said. He swiftly scooped Billy into his arms and gently carried him to the entrance of Dora’s room.
“Billy, keep this crystal safe,” Os instructed, carefully placing the teleportation crystal Lady Domu had given him in front of Billy. “Lady Domu left it. If danger arises, smash this crystal… Lady Dora, I’m entrusting her to you, Billy!” His tone was extremely solemn.
Billy lowered its head to examine the teleportation crystal before it. Then, opening its mouth, it gently held the crystal within. Raising its three eyes, it looked at Os with immense seriousness, stood straight on its hind legs, and patted its chubby front paw against its chest, as if accepting a profoundly important mission.
“I’m counting on you, comrade!” Os declared, mirroring Billy’s stance. He struck his right hand firmly over his heart, executing a Norachi Kingdom military salute.
After bidding farewell to Billy, Os and Karl quickly tidied themselves up and hurried out of the inn.
“Oh, right, Os, do you know where the charity performance is being held?” Karl suddenly remembered and asked.
“…Sorry… Brother Karl…” Os paused, then scratched his head sheepishly.
“…” Karl and Os stood at the inn’s entrance, exchanging bewildered glances.
Morgan City was bustling today. Many had heard that the Bellan Merchant Guild and the Adventurers’ Guild were jointly hosting a charity performance at the Lord’s Mansion. Not only had the renowned “Despair Symphony Grand Orchestra” from the Happy Arena been invited, but it was also rumored that the Norachi Kingdom had dispatched a Legion Commander to attend.
For the martial-minded citizens, every Legion Commander was a national idol. Their anticipation for the Commander’s arrival even surpassed their excitement for the continent-famous orchestra.
Inside the Lord’s Mansion, servants were meticulously arranging the stage for the upcoming charity performance. The stage, entirely custom-built in the garden, was funded by the Bellan Merchant Guild. As one of the continent’s premier merchant guilds, it possessed immense wealth.
Several magic-powered airships hovered above Morgan City, unfurling large banners.
These banners proclaimed:
“Warmly Welcoming His Excellency Mofimod Rigles, Second Legion Commander of the Norachi Kingdom, to Morgan City!”
“Heartfelt Congratulations to the Bellan Merchant Guild and the Adventurers’ Guild for Jointly Hosting This Charity Event!”
“Enthusiastically Welcoming the Living Legend Born in Morgan City, the Great Demigod-Level Powerhouse, Lady Domu, the ‘Silver Reaper’!”
Mofimod Rigles was a long-renowned demigod-level powerhouse of the Norachi Kingdom, known across the continent as the “Azure-Eyed Wolf.” Currently, he served as the Second Legion Commander, leading the Azure Wolf Army—hundreds of thousands of soldiers whom enemy nations dubbed “Nightmares.” Mofimod himself was considered a mortal enemy by the entire Actica Empire.
Beyond his leadership, Mofimod’s personal strength was equally immense. Before ascending to demigod status, he had journeyed alone to the far northern Actica Empire and personally slain its Third Prince, known as the “Northern War God.” He returned unscathed to Triumphant City, the capital of the Norachi Kingdom, to report his success.
Though covered in blood, his emerald eyes still gleamed with undiminished sharpness, earning him the Empress’s admiration. She personally appointed Mofimod as the Seventh Legion Commander and bestowed upon him a highly precious Holy Artifact: the [Rotten Dragon Blade].
Now, the man known as the “Azure-Eyed Wolf” sat upright before General Baro, the Lord of Morgan City.
Mofimod possessed a wild mane of long brown hair and a chiseled face adorned with a short beard. He wore the blue trench coat exclusive to Norachi Kingdom Legion Commanders and appeared to be in his late thirties.
While his overall demeanor suggested a laid-back man, his eyes were his most striking feature.
In stark contrast to his relaxed expression, those eyes harbored a cruel, chilling intensity, like sharpened blades. Wherever his gaze swept, no one dared meet it directly; even General Baro instinctively averted his eyes.
