The Rescued Angel and the Villain’s Return

Chapter 57 • 1,341 words • 12 min read

S City First People’s Hospital.

After dealing with the “snakes, insects, rats, and ants” lurking in the gutters, Qin Fei arrived at the hospital, utterly exhausted. A wound, hidden beneath his sleeve, marred his arm. He had spent considerable effort today dealing with his enemies. He could have rushed to the hospital much earlier to see his sister, but circumstances had forced him to delay until almost dawn.

By this hour, patients were already queuing at the hospital, and the inpatient department’s nurses were bustling with activity. Qin Fei assumed his sister would still be asleep. To his surprise, however, upon pushing open the door, he found the little girl wide-eyed, clutching a doll and staring intently at the entrance.

The moment she recognized the person at the doorway, her eyes welled up, and with a trembling lip, she whimpered, “Brother…”

Qin Fei rushed to her side, settling on the edge of the bed, and pulled the little girl into his embrace. He murmured softly, “Don’t be scared, my dear. Brother is here now.”

Such a scene was hardly new to Qin Fei’s subordinates. Their boss was always like this: decisive and ruthless in the outside world, yet with his younger sister, he became gentle, as if an entirely different person. Those unaware of the full story might even mistake Qin Fei for the little girl’s father, given their 21-year age difference.

Five years prior, Qin Fei’s father had an illegitimate daughter, Qin Ke’er, with another woman, only to die in a car accident shortly after. Qin Fei’s mother had passed away early in his life, leaving him with no experience of paternal or maternal love. In a family like the Qins, he had no time for such ethereal concepts; his primary concern was survival.

After his father’s death, Qin Fei had initially intended to give Qin Ke’er away. However, as he prepared to carry the infant away, her tiny, chubby hands gripped the necklace around his neck, refusing to let go. The baby stared at him with eyes remarkably similar to his own, and stretched her toothless mouth into a sweet smile. It was at that moment that Qin Fei’s resolve softened. For the next five years, he acted as both brother and father, personally raising his sister.

Qin Ke’er, now five years old, was remarkably sensible. Her recent near-drowning had terrified her deeply, and after a night without her brother, the little girl was inconsolable. The moment she saw him, the fear and grievance that had weighed on her heart surged forth like a tide.

“Is there anywhere else you’re uncomfortable? Did the injection hurt?” Qin Fei asked softly, pointing to the little girl’s small hand where she’d had an IV drip.

After shedding a few golden tears, Qin Ke’er quickly regained her brave expression. She shook her head, saying, “It doesn’t hurt. Ke’er is all better now. Ke’er wants to go home with Brother.”

Qin Fei gently stroked Qin Ke’er’s head. “Alright, Brother will take you home right away.”

Qin Ke’er hugged her brother’s neck tightly, her voice sweet and childlike. “Ke’er doesn’t blame Brother. The bad people were too mean! Luckily, a beautiful angel brother saved Ke’er.”

“A beautiful angel brother?” Qin Fei was taken aback. Could it be that rescue personnel hadn’t saved Ke’er? Was there someone else entirely?

“Yes! When Ke’er fell into the water, no one came to save her. Just when Ke’er thought she was going to die, he jumped from the bridge to save her. The big current swept Ke’er and the angel brother apart, and the angel brother used a lot of strength to grab Ke’er.”

Qin Fei merely assumed the little girl was exaggerating, describing her savior as an angel. “Then… after you came to the hospital, did the brother who saved you visit? What’s his name?”

Qin Ke’er shook her head. “Ke’er only just woke up. But when I was almost asleep, I think I heard the big brothers and sisters outside saying that the angel brother was swept away by the water and hasn’t been found yet… Brother, do you think the angel brother will be alright?”

At that moment, Qin Fei was profoundly shaken. Upon hearing the phrase “swept away by the water,” he immediately thought of the young man he had rescued by the river yesterday. The youth possessed a clean, handsome face, and to be described as an angel was indeed not an exaggeration.

The youth saved his sister, and he, in turn, saved the youth. Everything felt so coincidental. Qin Fei smiled and told Qin Ke’er, “Brother knows where he is. I’ll take you to him so you can thank him in person, alright?”

Meanwhile.

After learning that Jian Ye was likely rescued by the Qin family, Yi Siyu immediately inquired about the Qin family’s address from Huo Kai.

“Who is the current head of the Qin family?” Yi Siyu asked.

“A few years ago, it was Qin Zhengxiong. Later, I heard that old man met with an accident and died. The person currently in charge of the entire Qin Group should be his son, Qin Fei.”

“Qin Fei…” Yi Siyu murmured the name, then re-read the text message on his phone.

Just then, Yi Siyu’s phone rang. It was his second brother, Yi Siyuan.

[Xiao Yu, it’s no good. I can’t trace the IP address of your text message at all. This is the first time I’ve encountered an encrypted message that even I can’t decrypt. Could this really be from Ah Ye? Or is it a trap?]

Yi Sizhe, standing nearby, agreed. “Xiao Yu, don’t be impulsive yet. Finding out where the Qin family is isn’t difficult. I’ve already informed Dad about this.”

Yi Siyu remained silent. Although Jian Ye had informed him of his safety, the state revealed in the message—the brevity and the lack of contact info—was clearly not right. He had some prior knowledge of the Qin family; the head of this group employed some rather domineering business tactics, which were unlike the Yi Group’s style.

While Yi Siyu was trying to find him, the trapped young man woke up from his bed once more. Jian Ye got out of bed and walked towards the door. Ah Jin, who was dozing by the doorway, suddenly asked, “What are you doing?”

Jian Ye paused. “I’m hungry. There’s a kitchen here, right? I’ll make something to eat myself.”

Jian Ye sighed. “I keep my word; I’ll wait for your Young Master Qin to return.” As he spoke, he habitually began to act coy. “It’s really not easy being a subordinate. You have to guard me all night, unable to get a good night’s sleep. Brother, you work so hard…”

Ah Jin felt a little embarrassed, scratching his head. “Serving Young Master is something I do willingly. Young Master saved my life; I’d gladly work like an ox or a horse for him.”

“Oh, so that’s what happened… Your Young Master Qin is truly a good person. He saved me this time too. So, do I also have to work like an ox or a horse for him too?” Jian Ye tilted his head, asking pitifully.

“With your slender arms and legs, just forget it… you wouldn’t be much help to Young Master anyway,” Ah Jin said bluntly.

Just then, there was movement outside the door. Someone outside seemed to say, “Young Master is back.” Ah Jin’s eyes suddenly lit up.

Jian Ye prepared himself, cultivating his emotions. ‘I need to switch targets.’

Just as he was about to put on his act, the system shrieked in terror.

[System 748: Holy cow! So this Young Master Qin is the villain from the book!]

What?!!!!

“Cough, cough, cough, cough… cough, cough, cough…”

Before he could even react to the system saying “holy cow,” Jian Ye was choked by the shocking news, coughing as if his life depended on it. The young man’s face flushed crimson as he clutched his chest, appearing even more delicate and pitiable, like a wilting willow branch.
