Chapter 6: Supporting Role

-The morning class ended.

The announcement sounded from the speaker attached to the ceiling.

As I listened to that, my heart felt very empty.

It passed. The morning class passed by in an instant.

“……What did I hear?”

I wasn’t the type to concentrate well in class, but today, nothing really remained in my head.

But it wasn’t like this. I still remembered a few key points.

It felt like someone had pulled me out of the flow of time and sent me to the future four hours later.

Anyway, this meant that my current condition was not good.

“Hello.”

“…”

“Excuse me, look here. Are you ignoring me?”

In this confusing situation, someone spoke up from the side.

“…Ellis.”

“Oh, you weren’t ignoring me, were you?”

Ellis Akstra.

The woman who usually never came near me because of strange rumors was looking at me with an even more irritated expression today.

“Just in case you don’t know, I’m not feeling well right now.”

“I know. I came here because you must have been feeling bad in the first place.”

“…”

“If that weren’t the case, there would be no reason for me to come to you so openly in front of others.”

Hmm.

The woman in front of me was definitely a crazy woman.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t make sense.

Is that a thought that could come out of a normal person’s head?

‘There’s no way…….’

No. There was no way.

I can’t say I’m normal with my own mouth, but at least that woman couldn’t be normal.

If she was normal, then normal people in this world didn’t exist.

As I nodded to the information that had been organized in my own way, Ellis glared at me with an offended expression.

“What’s with that offended nod?”

“I told you before. I’m not feeling very well right now.”

“I didn’t know that being offended didn’t mean that my condition wasn’t bad, but that I was mentally unstable.”

Ellis had a really cute way of saying that I looked like a insane.

“……So, what’s the matter? Just like you said, the fact that you and I are talking like this is weird in the first place.”

Since my already abnormal mental state would get worse if I listened to her any more, I decided to just listen to her business and send her away.

“Oh, right. I haven’t told you the matter I came to see you for.”

“…”

“It’s nothing. I came to ask you to have lunch together today.”

“……Phew.”

I let my guard down when she said it was nothing and was drinking water, but I spit out the water I was drinking at her next words.

What? You want me to have lunch together?

My mind was already filled with thoughts of not wanting to accept it, but I decided to at least be polite and ask her why.

“……Why?”

“Why? Do you need a reason when a beautiful woman asks a man she likes out on a date?”

Ellis started talking with a bashful smile like a fox that could captivate all the men in the world.

……I should have just not been polite.

After hearing those words, I decided not to hold back on harsh words either.

“Don’t talk nonsense. I told you I’m not feeling so well today.”

“Hmm, it doesn’t work. I’m sure the book I read yesterday said it would work.”

“……I’m just going to eat alone?”

“Ah, I get it. You seem like a boring person.”

“…”

I’m really sorry. For being such a boring person.

Ellis let out a sigh and continued talking, looking at me blankly as if she had lost.

“It’s not anything else. As I said earlier, I’m curious about what you and your sister did this morning.”

“…Why are you curious about that?”

“Hmm. Can I tell you this?”

Ellis looked like she was thinking about something, a look of uncertainty and concern.

She seemed to be contemplating whether or not she should say what she had in her mouth.

After thinking for a while, Ellis seemed to have made up her mind, and after looking around briefly, she opened her mouth.

“She left work early today.”

“Who? Aria?”

“No, not your sister.”

Not Aria? Then who on earth left work early…?

My thoughts were cut off right here.

To be exact, there was someone who had interrupted my thoughts.

Ah. That person.

“……Elena.”

“Yes. Elena Brilliant. That woman left work early today after meeting your sister.”

I had expected it, but my expectations and my feelings were always different.

***

Elena Brilliant.

The last heroine of this novel, who was considered the most legitimate of the original heroines.

“She’s your fiancée. Don’t you think about her?”

“……I still do.”

The ‘former’ fiancée of Lian Trice in the original.

She was originally engaged to Lian, though.

In the original, Lian’s mischief showed no signs of ending, and the Duke of Brilliant, who couldn’t stand it any longer, led the two to break off their engagement.

This was the original story.

It hadn’t been reached yet.

However, it wasn’t long before it would be.

“I think I told you yesterday. The Brilliant family is gathering evidence to prove what kind of person you’ve been.”

“……I know.”

“Is that the only reaction from someone who knows? You don’t seem to understand yet, but I’m telling you that you’re about to be broken off?”

Ellis looked at me with a frown as if she still didn’t understand me.

“I know, Ellis Akstra.”

“…”

“I don’t need to emphasize it; I know it well enough, so leave it at that.”

As someone who knew about the broken engagement before I was reincarnated here, it wasn’t a very interesting story.

The broken engagement of model student Elena Brilliant and the mischievous Lian Tris.

This was a predetermined fate.

The predetermined fate of the original that no one could go against.

Of course, someone might have said this.

Why can’t you go against it?

You read the original and were possessed, and you can’t change one event that was already set in stone.

And you’re still a possessed person?

Well, it wasn’t wrong.

In a typical possessed story, the main character goes against the fate that was set for them with their own power.

However, this was a wrong assumption from the beginning.

No, it was a wrong assumption from the very beginning.

‘……I’m not the main character.’

I wasn’t the main character.

The main character of a wonderful possessed story that changes the set fate and saves the lives of the people around them.

I wasn’t that kind of main character; I was just a mere extra villain.

It was obvious.

A pathetic person who couldn’t even change his own reputation or image couldn’t be the main character of this world.

I tried.

And I failed.

That was all. This was a fact that no one could oppose.

Ellis was looking at me as if she were looking at a strange person.

“……You’re a strange person. Even if you worry about it, it’s a mess.”

“….”

“Well, that’s fine. Since you, the person involved, said it doesn’t matter, I won’t worry about it either. Okay?”

“……Thank you?”

I was a little unsure if this was the situation where I should be thanking her.

But when I saw Ellis’s expression, who was looking at me with a dissatisfied expression, I felt like I should be thanking her.

“Anyway, since you said it doesn’t matter, let’s move on. Should we get to the main point now?”

“… Phew. Well, since I’m the one receiving the food, I should at least answer your questions.”

By the way, I had already gone out to have lunch alone with Elena, just as Elena had planned.

If only Elena hadn’t been involved.

If only Elena hadn’t been mentioned, I would have refused right away.

I kept sighing at the unfortunate situation, but I thought that since it had already happened, there was nothing I could do.

In fact, when I expressed my consent, Ellis began to ask questions with her eyes shining brightly.

“Okay, then tell me what happened with your sister this morning?”

“Yeah, well. Actually, there’s no reason not to tell you. You know I usually get to class early?”

“Of course. That’s why some students intentionally come to class late because of you.”

“…. I didn’t know that.”

It was really the first time I had learned of this. I had unintentionally caused trouble for others.

Should I go in late from tomorrow? But then I wouldn’t be able to get the last seat.

As I was seriously contemplating the next morning, which would probably be a year at most, Ellis pressed me as if it wasn’t important.

“Is that important right now? Please answer quickly.”

“There’s nothing really important. I just went into class early like I usually do, and that guy was there, which was different from usual.”

“Your sister?”

“Uh.”

“That’s as expected. So what’s next?”

“That’s the end.”

“……What? That’s the end?”

Ellis glared at me reflexively as soon as she heard the answer.

However, I had only told the complete truth.

“Uh. As soon as I saw her, she asked me why I went to the hospital yesterday, so I just told her.”

“…”

“I went because my wrist was numb, and the hospital diagnosed that I would get better if I rested.”

The truth with a clear outcome.

Although some of the content in the middle was omitted, in conclusion, it was the truth without a single lie.

What was important about the process?

The outcome was the most important, no matter what.

The woman in front of me, whose face was starting to turn red with anger, didn’t seem to think so, but at least that’s what I thought.
