The Yandere Dream and a Sister’s Care

Chapter 6 • 1,155 words • 10 min read

My heart lurched, and Lin Ling felt his breath catch in his throat. The silver-haired girl, as if she had spotted some peerless treasure, began to sprint towards him with a frantic pace. As the girl’s silhouette grew larger and larger, Lin Ling’s eyes widened, every cell in his body screaming, “Run!”

Lin Ling wanted to move, yet the numbing sensation throughout his body rendered him utterly powerless. In that instant, in the blink of an eye, the silver-haired girl was already standing by his bed.

Her silver hair cascaded over Lin Ling like a waterfall as she slowly leaned down, cradling his face in her hands, a bizarre smile gracing her lips.

Though he couldn’t discern the girl’s features, Lin Ling inexplicably knew she was smiling, her eyes fixed intently upon him.

“Hehehe, I’ve got you now~”

“Oh, Lin Ling, we’ll never be apart again, haha.”

From somewhere unknown, the girl produced a cleaver, her gaze unwavering as it remained fixed on Lin Ling.

His heart pounded furiously, Lin Ling’s mind now a complete blank. He stared blankly at the raised cleaver, an unparalleled sense of despair coiling around Lin Ling’s heart.

****

Ding-a-ling~

Just then, a crisp, familiar sound shattered the terrifying scene.

“Ah!”

The suffocating sensation vanished instantly, and Lin Ling twisted into a sitting position. He clutched the jade pendant on his chest, sweat already drenching the sheets beneath him.

His chest heaving violently, Lin Ling glanced at the sky outside his window. There, a jungle of steel obscured the distant horizon, a sliver of the sun struggling to ascend. The roar of engines and the distant chirping of birds slowly brought Lin Ling back to reality.

“Hoo~ hoo, thankfully, it was just a dream.”

He patted his firm chest, where a heart still hammered furiously.

****

Ding-a-ling~

The familiar sound rang out once more, and Lin Ling turned his head. His phone, discarded on the bed, glowed with a screen displaying, “7:20 Time to wake up.”

Exhaling softly, Lin Ling hadn’t expected his alarm clock to be his savior. He didn’t know what might have happened had that strange dream continued, but the events within it had left him with a deeply unsettling premonition.

Rubbing his groggy head, Lin Ling scrolled through his phone, finding no new messages. Indeed, after such a nightmare, receiving a morning message like “How did you sleep last night?” would send shivers down anyone’s spine. Fortunately, Lin Ling had worried needlessly.

Just as he set his phone down, it suddenly vibrated. Lin Ling’s body stiffened instantly. ‘Surely no one would be so idle as to send such a message now, would they?’

With a sense of trepidation, he shakily picked up his phone. He saw a red dot on an app named ‘PP’, and upon tapping it open, Lin Ling immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

–Sister: Lin Ling, I’ve landed a huge client recently. If you’re short on cash, you can come to me.

Seeing the sender’s name, Lin Ling couldn’t help but smile. It was an instinctive reaction of this body, one that Lin Ling himself hadn’t even consciously registered.

–Wind Chime: What? Sister, you didn’t go rob a bank, did you?

–Sister: You brat, what are you talking about? While your sister might be a bodyguard, I’m not a criminal.

Pfft~

Lin Ling burst out laughing after reading that message. Lin Yiting, the original male lead’s sister, was one of Lin Ling’s favorite characters in the entire book. Despite her usually carefree and adventurous demeanor, always out and about, her concern for the male lead was meticulous and all-encompassing. Most importantly, she was one of the few normal female characters in the original novel. The other female characters were either dealt with by the yandere female lead or had themselves turned into yanderes.

‘However… in the original novel, Lin Yiting’s profession wasn’t explicitly mentioned; it only stated that she was a skilled fighter. Such details, the original author probably couldn’t be bothered to write.’

–Sister: Alright, alright, I’m not talking to you anymore, I have work to do. If you need money, tell me, but try not to ask our parents for any; they have it tough enough.

–Wind Chime: Okay, I got it, Sister.

Turning off his phone, Lin Ling still wore a smile. He had never imagined that a character he admired so much would now be his actual sister. It felt quite nice to suddenly have a sister.

After a quick tidy-up, Lin Ling headed out the door. Walking down the bustling street, he felt a sense of unreality. Perhaps it was because he had never lived in such a large, first-tier city before, or perhaps it was the realization that this was a fictional world that gave him this feeling.

As he walked, Lin Ling’s thoughts quickly drifted. He recalled some of the original novel’s settings, starting with Chen Sishi. She was the campus belle of Xinshi Private High School, known for her exceedingly gentle demeanor. Moreover, her family was incredibly wealthy; she was a young heiress, and her family even held shares in Xinshi Private High School.

As for Qin Ruoxue, she was even more enigmatic, her family frequently engaged in strange and peculiar experiments. Especially in the later stages, Qin Ruoxue became nothing short of a monstrous existence.

Aside from these two most troublesome characters, there was one more, someone named Gu something. Lin Ling couldn’t quite recall; this character could be avoided, and thus the cleaver, as long as he was careful not to interact with her. Currently, Chen Sishi remained the biggest headache, as the other two only turned yandere later, while she already displayed yandere tendencies in the early stages.

Rubbing his slightly throbbing head, Lin Ling entered the school gates. The moment he stepped into the teaching building, Lin Ling suddenly felt an uncomfortable sensation, as if he was being watched. He glanced around, but found nothing amiss.

‘Hiss~ Could it be that I’ve been under too much stress lately?’

Lin Ling pondered this, concluding it was highly probable. First, there was the bizarre transmigration into this world, and then the constant fear of the yandere girls’ cleaver endings. Furthermore, last night’s dream—its scientific name was likely sleep paralysis, most probably triggered by anxiety or psychological distress.

‘Hoo~ It looks like I need to relax a bit recently.’

He sighed; Lin Ling hadn’t felt this constant tension in his nerves for a very long time. He recalled the last time he felt this way was a few days before the college entrance exams. At this thought, Lin Ling suddenly realized he might have to experience the college entrance exams again, causing him to stumble and almost fall.

Somewhere behind Lin Ling, a faint, crisp sound echoed. The silver-haired girl watched the departing boy’s back, a sickly smile gracing her lips.

“Haha, it’s Lin Ling’s photo. Lin Ling~ Lin Ling~ Ahahaha…”
