The capital is vast. Even though we’re in the same city, it still takes an hour or two to get home by car, and that’s without any traffic.
In the back seat, the girl leaned against the comfortable car seat, watching the street scenery rush by outside the window, her small heart pounding.
How nervous…
Bai Xia’s small hand secretly clutched the hem of her clothes, her gaze occasionally drifting towards Mo Bai, who was resting with his eyes closed. Unfortunately, Mo Bai was lost in thought and didn’t notice the girl’s subtle actions.
Bai Xia let out a quiet sigh of relief, but also felt a small pang of disappointment.
Perhaps it was because she had grown accustomed to being ‘bullied’ by Mo Bai over the past few days. Suddenly, his silence left her feeling a bit unsettled.
The girl pouted and shifted her gaze back to the window, trying to calm her restless and anxious heart.
‘Hmph, what a joke. How could a noble blood maiden like her possibly miss the comforts of a human’s world?…’
As night fell, the last rays of the setting sun dipped below the horizon, and the capital came alive with a different kind of bustle. The neon lights of the city formed a shimmering dragon that snaked through the twilight, outlining the dazzling skyline. The only strange thing was the bright full moon hanging in the night sky.
Having both a sun and a moon is a natural phenomenon, but for some high-level superhumans, the appearance of the moon is not a good sign. Instead, it fills them with an unsettling sense of foreboding.
“[I’m watching you… /#+ forever… *#… watching you…]”
This world never had a moon, not in the past and certainly not now.
But this radiant full moon seemed to appear out of nowhere, hanging in the night sky for at least a hundred years.
Gradually, the moon has made everyone believe its presence is normal, even forgetting what the night sky used to look like. Only a few exceptionally powerful superhumans have managed to remain lucid amidst this mental intrusion and feel a deep-seated unease and resistance during the full moon.
Several dozen minutes later, the car slowly came to a stop in front of a large mansion. Bai Xia looked up and saw ancient green brick walls enclosing traditional architecture with upturned eaves, starkly contrasting with the surrounding modern cityscape.
The mansion was ancient, solemn, and majestic, yet also beautiful.
But… it’s so big! This is more like a garden than a house!
Bai Xia stared at the expansive mansion, her mouth slightly agape, her ruby-red eyes filled with shock.
“Mo, is your house really this big?”
Next to her, Mo Bai watched the girl’s adorable expression of shock, his lips curling into a subtle smile.
Mo Bai had heard many compliments, but coming from this little one, they felt especially pleasing.
“Don’t you like big houses?” Mo Bai asked with a smile.
The girl’s surprise was exactly what Mo Bai had expected. After all, compared to the modest apartment Bai Xia initially lived in, even the bathroom in his house was larger.
“N-not really. I’m just curious about how much a house this big would cost,” Bai Xia replied, somewhat embarrassed as she scratched her cheek.
The girl was used to being poor and had never seen anything like this.
She thought ‘very big’ meant a luxurious apartment or a villa, never imagining it would be this massive.
A mansion of this size doesn’t just impress with its size; it also exudes a subtle pressure, hinting at the extraordinary status of its owner.
Bai Xia’s petite figure instinctively moved closer to Mo Bai, her fair hand discreetly grasping the hem of his clothes, showing a hint of nervousness.
“Have you always been this nervous?” Mo Bai chuckled, looking at the girl who was shrinking away.
Bai Xia glared at him, annoyed. She really wanted to throw a couple of punches at him for his smug expression.
“Of course I’m nervous! It’s not like you’re the one meeting the parents,” the girl huffed.
Actually, Mo Bai wanted to reassure Bai Xia, but seeing her so anxious made him strangely pleased.
He still enjoys watching Bai Xia’s helpless moments when she has no choice but to rely on him.
“Relax, my parents just want to meet you. There’s nothing to worry about,” Mo Bai said, patting her head and taking her hand. “Come on, they’re probably waiting for us.”
“Oh… but are you sure it’s okay, Mo?” Bai Xia mumbled softly, her face flushed as she allowed Mo Bai to lead her into the mansion.
“Of course. When have I ever lied to you?” Mo Bai smiled gently, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze.
In the mansion’s living room, Mo Hongyi and Bai Ifu had been waiting for some time.
They had received a call from their son early in the morning, saying he would bring Bai Xia home today. The couple had been eagerly waiting in the mansion, even arranging for the chef to prepare a special dinner, anticipating meeting this charming girl.
After all, seeing is believing.
Although the Mo family’s intelligence network could easily gather information about Bai Xia’s appearance, height, and background, the couple still wanted to see her in person.
As they conversed, footsteps suddenly echoed from the entrance, followed by the hurried footsteps of a servant.
“Master, Mistress, the young master has returned with the young lady.”
The carved wooden door swung open, and Mo Bai entered first, followed by a petite, exquisite figure.
Under the warm yellow light, the girl’s snow-white hair cascaded like fine silk. A few strands slipped over her cheek as she lowered her head, gently tucking them behind her ear with slender fingers. Her delicate frame shrank back slightly, half-hidden behind Mo Bai, peeking out with just half of her face visible.
“Dad, Mom, I’m back.”
Mo Bai’s voice held a subtle softness. He stepped aside, gently bringing the girl who was almost completely hidden behind him to his side, naturally taking her slightly chilled hand.
“This is Bai Xia, my classmate.”
Suddenly drawn to Mo Bai’s side, Bai Xia felt her heart skip a beat.
‘W-what is happening? She hadn’t even prepared herself…’
In that moment, Bai Xia wished she could disappear. It was one thing to make a fool of herself in school, where no one would remember her after graduation, but in front of Mo Bai’s parents, that would be truly embarrassing.
This was their first meeting!
“Um… A-are you my uncle and aunt? I’m Bai Xia,” Bai Xia’s voice was barely audible, as if squeezed from her throat.
But they were a prestigious family, so a simple greeting wouldn’t suffice.
The girl’s mind went blank with tension, her only instinct being to bend forward in a nearly ninety-degree bow, her snow-white hair cascading like a waterfall, almost touching the ground.
“Sorry to bother you…”
“Oh, come now, quickly help her up. There’s no need for such formality,” Bai Ifu hastily motioned for Mo Bai to assist Bai Xia.
She and Mo Hongyi were already quite fond of Bai Xia from her profile, and seeing her in person reinforced their impression. This pure and slightly clumsy girl instantly won their hearts.
“We are so happy you could come today.”
“Dinner is prepared by our best chef, so please enjoy it.”
“And Mo Bai, don’t just let her stand there,” Mo Hongyi chuckled, his tone gentler than usual, with a hint of playful teasing in his gaze at his son. “Don’t keep the poor girl standing.”
