The Return of the Transcendent

Chapter 63 • 1,186 words • 10 min read

Yan Huarong was an ordinary rural youth on the surface.

Naive, ignorant, even seeming a bit dull, he possessed a precious talent called a Special Ability user.

So things naturally fell into place.

During a Void Contact incident, he awakened his ability and became a Special Ability user.

Though he failed to get into Tiandu University, he eventually joined an organization called the Void Expedition Bureau and became a member of the human vanguard.

Through countless life-and-death battles, he grew, became stronger, his ability evolved, and he gained comrades-in-arms and love.

But accidents always run through life.

A intelligence error left him and his comrades trapped in the Void.

In the desperate struggle for survival and battle, he and his comrades exhausted their last Void Energy.

They all suffered irreversible damage.

His comrade’s chakra shattered, falling from the Turbid World rank to the Mercury rank. As for him, his ability core shattered.

He became… an ordinary person.

He became the same… ordinary person as before, turning back into that foolish, dumb rural boy.

He couldn’t accept it!

Despite official support, he used his previous savings to establish Rong’an Pest Control Company and now had assets worth hundreds of millions.

But he still missed those days fighting in the Void, missed his former self.

Because now he was weak, pitiful, his body decaying with age.

He even got an incurable disease, diabetes.

Hah… if he were still his old self, how could he have gotten such a disease?

He had said this countless times in his heart, dreamed countless times of having his ability again.

But it was always just a dream.

Countless nights of weeping, countless times of drowning in drink, just to relive in a daze the former omnipotent self.

Once you’ve seen the splendor, how can you return to the ordinary?

He prayed to the heavens, searched everywhere for a way to regain his ability.

Finally, he found it.

In the hands of a demon called the Black Tower, there was a method to regain his ability.

He was like a drowning man grabbing a lifeline, not daring to let go.

“Take whatever you want, just let me have my ability back,” Yan Huarong said.

So he sacrificed his soul.

Under the cover of Rong’an Pest Control, he successfully set up Void Energy devices in three places to mask Void fluctuations.

No one knew about this.

He even eliminated all traces half a year in advance.

That team from Rong’an Pest Control that went to Yingshi No.1 High School half a year ago was sent to erase those traces.

But who would have thought, with all these preparations and contingencies, the Black Tower still failed?

“A bunch of useless trash!”

Yan Huarong lay on the wide back seat of the Cullinan, cursing in his heart, frustrated that they couldn’t deliver.

But at least the Black Tower kept their promise, and he got the treasure he had dreamed of.

And it was good that it failed, this way there wouldn’t be too many casualties. He didn’t want to see too many deaths.

After all, this was just a necessary pretense; he still had to fight as a vanguard in the future.

Lost in thought, Yan Huarong closed his eyes slightly.

He could perceive that in the dead, dark-tainted sea of Void Energy, the shattered ability core had pieced itself back together.

Although the seams were filled with writhing, disgusting flesh buds, there was no doubt, his ability had returned.

And most importantly, the cracks at the joints were disappearing, meaning those flesh buds wouldn’t become a problem.

“My ability is recovering! My strength, my body are all getting stronger!”

His breathing quickened, his right fingers trembling slightly.

The deep wrinkles between his brows smoothed out, his skin no longer so loose.

His lips and teeth were no longer dry; saliva formed on its own.

It’s back, everything is back!

“Boss, not taking the highway?” the driver suddenly spoke.

Yan Huarong was a bit annoyed at the interruption of his reverie, but in a good mood, he didn’t pursue it.

“Take the national road,” he said softly.

Though all evidence had been destroyed and the Jurisdiction Bureau seemed not to suspect him, showing no movement at all.

But sometimes no movement is the biggest movement!

To prevent the Jurisdiction Bureau from acting rashly, he decided to lie low with his blood brother from the vanguard, with whom he had shared life and death.

Unlike him, this uninjured brother had risen to a high position in the Void Expedition Bureau.

Even the Jurisdiction Bureau, without evidence, wouldn’t dare to act against him on their turf.

“Once my strength recovers, with the power of the Turbid World rank, I can go anywhere in the world!”

Yan Huarong was already imagining his wonderful future.

Though the Black Tower wanted him to come now and join the organization, he wasn’t stupid. Why would he leave a good life to join some evil group?

Che!

The intercom in the car suddenly crackled.

“Boss, there’s someone up ahead, no, a man and a woman jumped off the overpass.”

“Wait, the woman summoned a tree net. Boss, they’re Special Ability users!”

“Here they come!” Yan Huarong had expected this, otherwise he wouldn’t have set out with his trusted men.

He crossed his legs and coldly ordered, “Speed up and charge through. They can’t stop us!”

All three cars had been specially modified, with horsepower far exceeding other vehicles of the same type. The bodies and windows were bulletproof.

Ordinary Special Ability users, without abilities that could brute-force their way through, couldn’t possibly stop them.

“Yes!” came the reply from the intercom.

The drivers of all three cars floored the accelerator. Amid the roar of engines, the cars surged forward.

But the next second, a thunderous sound of something breaking through the air suddenly appeared.

Then, with a bang, the lead car was hit by something and flipped backward, flying through the air.

Screech.

The driver slammed on the brakes, the whole car decelerating sharply.

Yan Huarong wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Inertia threw him forward, his face smashing into the front passenger seat.

“f*ck! What’s going on!”

He shook his head, leaned out to look, and his pupils dilated in shock.

Disbelief was clearly visible on his face.

Up ahead, not far away on the asphalt, a two-meter-long spiral wooden spear was stuck into the ground.

Whoosh!

The wrecked car in front suddenly burst into flames, the blazing fire licking the air. The heat distorted the air.

In the twisted, rising black heat haze, two figures slowly emerged.

One was a cool-looking boy in a white tracksuit. He held his head slightly high, white light flickering in his eyes. His handsome face still carried a youthful innocence.

The other was a woman in a blue-and-white student uniform. Her long hair reached her waist, and her extremely cute, sweet face bore an icy killing intent.

It added a rare touch of boldness that ordinary women lacked.

Bang!

A heavy footstep sounded behind the girl, and another huge figure appeared.

It was a massive tree giant!
