Unexpected Hospitality

Chapter 641,081 words10 min read

Dinner passed without any unusual events.

At the dining table, Mo Hongyi and Bai Ruoxi briefly discussed the girl’s experiences over the years. Then, Mo Hongyi told Mo Bai to take good care of Bai Xia, warning him not to bully her. After that, they didn’t ask any more questions, instead enthusiastically encouraging Bai Xia to eat more.

The attitude of Mo Bai’s parents left the girl feeling both surprised and pampered. The anticipated difficulties or scrutiny from a wealthy family didn’t materialize; instead, she received genuine care and respect.

Although she was somewhat puzzled, Mo Bai’s reassuring gaze eventually dispelled her lingering doubts, allowing her to gradually relax.

‘If Mo Ge says it’s okay, then I shouldn’t worry,’ she thought.

This realization brought a genuine, relaxed smile to her face for the first time that evening—a smile as pure and untainted as melting snow. Even Mo Bai was momentarily taken aback, feeling his heart skip a beat.

“Thank you, Uncle and Auntie,” Bai Xia said softly, her voice carrying a newfound warmth. Her ruby-red eyes curved into a crescent moon shape, and she added, “The food is delicious. I… I’m very happy.”

She had been worried that Mo Ge’s parents might dislike her or look down on her background, but it seemed her fears were unfounded.

However, she wondered, why were Mo Bai’s parents being so kind to her?

Bai Xia recalled the day in the interrogation room, remembering the conversation between Mo Bai and Chu Feng. She realized that Mo Bai’s parents were also part of the Swordwielding Agency.

But the Swordwielding Agency was the empire’s special unit for dealing with outsiders…

This realization brought a faint unease back to her mind, as she depended entirely on Mo Bai for the energy her body needed.

“Mo Ge, can we talk privately for a moment?” she asked, her small, pale hand tugging gently at Mo Bai’s sleeve beneath the table. She looked up, her red eyes, which had just moments ago held a smile, now clouded with a hint of worry.

The underlying anxiety in her hesitant request tugged at Mo Bai’s heart, and he sensed something was amiss.

“Yes, after dinner, I’ll take you to the room,” he replied, reaching under the table to gently grasp her cool fingers, offering comfort to his little blood companion.

But what could have happened to cause this sudden change?

After dinner, they chatted briefly in the living room before Mo Bai led Bai Xia to a guest room. The room, however, was more like a space specially prepared for her.

“From now on, this room is yours,” Mo Bai said, stepping aside to let Bai Xia see the room’s layout.

The room featured light-colored curtains, a soft carpet on the floor, and a vanity table adorned with new, beautifully packaged skincare products. A large, soft bed sat in the center of the room, complete with a plush pillow. The room was warm and inviting, leaving Bai Xia momentarily speechless.

‘Is this what it means to be wealthy?’ she wondered, once again experiencing the power of money.

She had thought Mo Bai’s apartment was already luxurious and comfortable, but compared to this room prepared just for her, it seemed almost plain. She stood there, unsure of what to do.

“Mo Ge, isn’t this room a bit too luxurious?” Bai Xia asked, a bit confused.

“Of course, I’m one of the top-tier families in the capital. It wouldn’t be fitting if it wasn’t luxurious,” Mo Bai replied with a playful smirk. “Besides, you’re my exclusive little maid, so this room was prepared for you from the start.”

“But…” Bai Xia was at a loss for words, her cheeks flushing pink.

“But…” she stammered, feeling like she was living off someone else’s generosity.

“Yah! Mo Ge, what are you doing!” Bai Xia exclaimed as she was suddenly lifted into Mo Bai’s arms. Her small feet kicked gently in the air, and her long, white hair flowed like moonlight.

“I think someone’s being a bit naughty tonight…” Mo Bai said, carrying the petite girl into the room and closing the door behind them with his foot.

There was a soft click as the door closed, isolating them from the outside world. Bai Xia’s heartbeat skipped a beat.

“I… I wasn’t being naughty…” Bai Xia’s voice was barely audible, lacking conviction.

Although she wasn’t sure what she was feeling, being held so close by Mo Bai, with his knowing and playful gaze, made her heart race and her thoughts scatter. It felt like all her secrets were laid bare.

But that was true; Mo Bai always seemed to see right through her. He just hadn’t quite understood her sudden worry during dinner.

What could have caused her to worry without any apparent reason?

Mo Bai couldn’t think of any pressure he might have put on her, but if it was just nerves, it wouldn’t have shown on her face like that.

“Were you being a good girl?” Mo Bai asked, his eyebrow raised, and a hint of a smirk playing on his lips.

This made Bai Xia shrink back, losing the confidence to argue.

If Mo Bai said that, then she must have done something wrong, making him unhappy.

Mo Bai sat her on the bed but didn’t release her, keeping her close in his embrace. The intimate position made Bai Xia uncomfortable. Her long, white hair cascaded over Mo Bai’s arm, and her delicate face was flushed with a rosy hue, even her small ears turning a shy pink.

She twisted slightly, trying to create some distance, but Mo Bai’s arm held her tighter. Her blouse wrinkled a bit from her movements, revealing a small gap at the collar, where her smooth, jade-like skin and the white cotton heart-shaped back of her top were barely visible.

Mo Bai’s gaze darkened, and his Adam’s apple moved slightly. Originally, he had just wanted to tease his little maid and find out what was bothering her, but now, his mind was distracted by what he saw.

This little temptress…

Bai Xia, unaware of her allure, continued to squirm, trying to escape the tight embrace. This only served to make Mo Bai more eager for the “reward” he had planned for later.

But first, he needed to calm her down.

After all, recognizing her mistakes would make her more obedient, wouldn’t it?

“Speak up,” he said. “What did you want to talk about with me alone?”
