Xu Feng turned her head in astonishment toward the spot where the original incense burner had been, as a faint human voice suddenly drifted from there.
“The blood enemy of the Green Flame Tree God.”
The woman’s voice was light, yet saturated with an intense hatred.
The incense burner suddenly seemed to be struck by some strange power, crashing down toward Xu Feng’s position!
Thump!
“Cough! Cough!”
Xu Feng waved her hand to swat away the ash clouding her face.
The room, now filled with smoke and dust, looked like a fragment of the black beast tide.
“Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Meiyu, the Mistress of the Black Tide.”
The woman’s voice became distorted within the black mist, as the ash throughout the entire room served as her cover.
‘This house really should have been cleaned properly!’
Xu Feng complained about Zhu in her heart, but her body dared not slacken for a second.
Clutching the heart, she turned and pressed her back against the heavy bronze door to shut it.
Outside the door, Meiyu seemed indifferent, or perhaps she was simply calm, as if watching a good show.
Xu Feng exerted all her strength to finally close the door.
She ran over to Zhu, who had turned into a statue, and crouched down, trying to wake the fallen god.
“Your house is being robbed! Get up and hit her!”
The black mist was blocked outside, and Meiyu’s silhouette wandered about.
As her facial profile pressed against the window, one could glimpse an exaggerated fan-shaped hair ornament on her head, with snake-like strips of something wriggling upon it.
“Little brat~, is there any use in locking yourself in?”
Clack, clack.
The bronze door began to be pried open—not in the normal way Xu Feng had opened it, but being yanked outward with brute force!
Xu Feng sensed imminent disaster.
She looked around at the bare walls; Zhu seemed to have left behind no intact weapons at all!
“Surrender his authority obediently, and I might consider sparing your life to let you become my most loyal subordinate.”
Meiyu laid out her conditions in a leisurely manner, even as she violently dismantled the door!
“Why ‘most loyal’?”
Xu Feng bolstered her courage to talk back, picking up a shard of the broken halberd as a means of counterattack.
“Because I will peel away your pretty skin and inject a part of my most loyal body into you. Isn’t that obvious~ hahaha.”
Meiyu’s laughter was as terrifying as a graveyard in the middle of a storm, showing no intention of letting anyone live!
“Pah! I’d rather smash it than give it to you!”
Xu Feng held the golden heart high.
Its golden light was distinctly different from the black mist seeping into the room, though it showed no signs of suppressing it.
“You are welcome to try. Smash the authority of a god, and it will still be there. I’ll just swallow it anyway. If anything, it would be easier to absorb that way~”
“You’re disgusting!”
Xu Feng couldn’t help but curse.
“Well scolded. Let’s see if you can still speak in a moment.”
A piece of the door was suddenly torn away, and black mist flooded into the room.
Xu Feng could only vaguely see Meiyu’s figure, so she hurled the broken halberd shard forward with all her might!
Whoosh!
The shard thrown from Xu Feng’s hand was actually coated in a thin layer of golden light!
“Oh my!”
A deliberate shout came from the black mist.
Xu Feng knit her brows, feeling as though she was being toyed with.
“What an interesting reaction. Aren’t you going to show even a little surprise? You hit me, you know.”
Crackle!
The sound of metal clicking together rang out.
Xu Feng couldn’t help but clutch the heart tighter and retreat, but her back soon hit the wall.
What was Meiyu planning to do? Where should she go!
“Look at all this divine blood in the room. What a waste. But it doesn’t matter.”
As soon as Meiyu finished speaking, several glowing purple chains emerged from the black mist.
They were like dogs with a keen sense of smell, circling around the statue of Zhu.
“I’ll get to you in a moment, little girl.”
The purple chains suddenly exerted force, binding Zhu’s body.
The chains pulled taut with a loud clang, ripping Zhu’s body from the ground and dragging it straight into the black mist!
‘What is she doing?’
Xu Feng couldn’t help but feel terrified, but what happened next fit her definition of a monster perfectly.
Even in the black mist, Meiyu’s head emitted a faint purple glow.
Her head suddenly split open like a blooming flower, turning into several unspeakable segments.
Those segments latched onto Zhu’s statue and then constricted violently!
Crunch, crunch!
Accompanied by that horrific sound, the statue began to crumble.
Meiyu was devouring Zhu’s divine remains!
“Ugh.”
Xu Feng covered her mouth in extreme nausea.
Her pupils fully reflected the scene of the divine body being desecrated.
She was Meiyu’s next target!
‘What should I do! How can I stay alive! I don’t want to die like this!’
Xu Feng’s limbs went weak with panic, but the heart in her arms pulsed, its warmth reminding her of its presence.
‘If I’m going to be eaten by Meiyu anyway! I might as well be the one to bite first!’
Xu Feng performed an incredibly bold act right in front of Meiyu!
She lifted the golden heart to her mouth and opened it wide.
“Drop it! That’s mine!”
Realizing something was wrong, Meiyu manipulated the chains to shoot out from the black mist, aiming straight for Xu Feng’s head!
“Gulp!”
Xu Feng stuffed the fist-sized heart into her mouth and swallowed it despite the crushing sensation in her throat!
The golden heart vanished from Meiyu’s sight.
The chains stopped abruptly, then accelerated toward Xu Feng in a violent rage!
“You b*stard!! Spit it out!”
Meiyu’s voice went out of control, sounding enraged to the extreme.
However, Xu Feng did not react to Meiyu’s anger; she was in agony!
It felt like swallowing a hard, red-hot potato!
The lump in her throat was painfully hot! She couldn’t breathe!
In Xu Feng’s vision, the movement of the chains became extremely slow, but the relative pain was also prolonged.
It felt as if a hole had been burned through her neck and her body was being torn apart piece by piece, only to be stitched back together by her vampire traits.
‘It hurts! Everything hurts!’
The pain was so intense that Xu Feng nearly blacked out, her five senses almost lost to the agony.
She didn’t know that the golden heart was no longer in her throat, but settled beside her heart and lungs.
The heart seemed to have found its anchoring point.
It turned her blood from red to gold, as strange golden patterns opened up the meridians in Xu Feng’s body and rapidly spread toward her limbs.
Unable to take it anymore, Xu Feng’s eyes rolled back and she fainted from the pain.
Thud.
Xu Feng fell onto her side on the floor, her eyes tightly shut.
Meiyu’s chains were right in front of Xu Feng; she was about to seize the little thing that had stolen the authority.
‘You won’t escape. I’ll eat the authority! Along with your hair, skin, blood, and flesh!’
Just as Meiyu thought this, the chains were raised like stabbing daggers.
Ting.
The sound of a coin breaking the silence shattered Meiyu’s focus.
She turned to look at the surrounding black mist and immediately controlled the chains to lash out at the walls and ceiling.
Large chunks of stone crashed to the floor as she roared.
“Who is hiding here!”
Meiyu received no answer, but Xu Feng suddenly stood up like a reanimated corpse, her eyes snapping open.
“So you were faking death!”
The chains rushed toward her at high speed, but Xu Feng unhurriedly waved her hand to deploy a scarlet barrier, blocking Meiyu’s attack.
She then stomped her foot, and a hole immediately dissolved into the floor.
She closed her eyes and let herself fall right through it!
“Stop!!”
Meiyu crashed into the barrier with huge strides, but she was left with only an empty hole that was quickly filled in by bronze.
