Violet hadn’t embraced Long Ling like this in a long time.
Her little strawberry dragon had grown taller than before, only a little shorter than her nose, and her strawberry pheromones had a hint of forest scent.
When they used to hug like this, Long Ling’s dragon horns would shyly pop out, but this time she hugged her for a long time, and Long Ling didn’t hug her back, nor did her crystal-clear dragon horns appear.
Long Ling’s attitude towards her was as if she were an insignificant dragon.
Before, when the little dragon saw her, she was always happy, her eyes were bright, and she would always go to greet her.
Violet didn’t like this contrast.
She had never been treated like this before and couldn’t help but hug Long Ling even tighter, not wanting to separate from Long Ling for even a moment.
Long Ling pushed Violet away: “Your Grace, I’m going home.”
Violet’s voice was low and hoarse: “If you want to go, take me with you.”
Long Ling pursed her lips and said, “It’s not convenient for strangers to stay overnight at my home.”
They had once been so intimate, almost getting married, and she had planned to spend her life with Long Ling.
Was she drawing such a clear line between them out of fear that she would pester her?
A hurt look flashed in Violet’s eyes: “I’ve already burned the agreement.
You’re still my fiancée.”
Long Ling was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to help but soften her heart, so she turned away: “I seem to recall there being another agreement.
You should be satisfied with things as they are now.”
The wound in Violet’s heart felt as if someone had heavily slashed it open with a knife, and then sprinkled several layers of salt on it, the fine pain spreading from her tightly closed heart to her limbs.
She regretted it.
She shouldn’t have let her pride get in the way and signed that agreement in a moment of anger.
She didn’t want Long Ling to leave her side at all, but she still pushed Long Ling further and further away.
The distance between them seemed impossible to return to how it was before.
Violet watched Long Ling leave in the rain, took an umbrella from her guard, and quickly chased after her.
Her legs hadn’t fully recovered, so she couldn’t walk so fast all the time.
But Long Ling was walking very fast, not wanting Violet to hold an umbrella for her at all.
Violet held the black umbrella and tilted it towards Long Ling’s direction, but it didn’t shield Long Ling from the wind and rain, and her own body was soaked.
The rain falling from the sky became heavier and heavier, wetting Violet’s long black curly hair, and the rain flowed down her delicate face, quickly turning her black coat into a dark color.
She didn’t want to miss Long Ling again and, in her anxiety, accidentally twisted her foot, the piercing pain causing her beautiful eyebrows to furrow tightly.
Long Ling heard Violet’s faint gasp and turned around, seeing Violet in the rain, her face pale, looking even more downcast than her.
Long Ling thought about how Violet’s legs hadn’t been good to begin with and hesitated whether to go back and help Violet.
The adjutant suddenly appeared from somewhere, helped Violet up, and leaned down to whisper in Violet’s ear.
“Your Grace, there’s an urgent matter.”
Gries Harbour was the most important part of the empire and the center of developed economic trade.
Enemy warships had repeatedly collided and rubbed in the nearby waters, deliberately causing trouble, and sending fleets of ships to plunder merchant ships at sea.
Violet had absolute control in her territory, controlled the Dragon Guard Navy, and had always ensured smooth sea transport, but these forces were like maggots on a bone, reappearing as soon as they were driven away.
This time, a batch of new weapons was targeted, specially supplied to Her Majesty the Queen’s expeditionary force fighting on the front lines, and had to pass through Gries Harbour.
Violet had already handed it over to subordinate officials to be responsible, but the ship transporting the weapons disappeared under their noses.
The subordinate officials had identified several suspicious enemy ships and discovered officials in the royal city who were involved.
These officials didn’t know how to deal with it and could only ask Violet.
Violet had finally managed to find out Long Ling’s whereabouts and wanted to stay with Long Ling for a while longer.
After reading the battle report, she glanced coldly at the adjutant.
The adjutant lowered her head.
This wasn’t in the Duke’s territory, and they couldn’t rashly mobilize a large number of Dragon Guards to ensure the safety of Violet.
The dwarves of the Livo Continent and the Dragon Royal Family had long-standing personal grievances, and if they encountered assassins, the consequences would be disastrous.
The adjutant, seeing the rain getting heavier and heavier, quickly had someone bring over a cloak to shield her from the rain and draped it over Violet.
Violet looked up and saw that Long Ling was still waiting for her in place, knowing that Long Ling still had her in her heart, and a warm current flowed through her heart, making her frozen body seem to warm up again.
She took off the cloak, endured the pain, slowly walked up to Long Ling, and put it on Long Ling: “Don’t walk in the rain next time, what if you get sick?”
Long Ling had only intended to stop and see if Violet had really fallen, but seeing that Violet had an adjutant to take care of her and could continue walking, she didn’t intend to stay any longer.
But this cloak smelled of roses and was made of magical fabric, waterproof and warm.
She had already decided to break up with Violet, so naturally she wouldn’t want Violet’s things.
“I don’t need Your Grace’s charity.
I can afford a cloak myself.”
Long Ling raised her hand to untie the cloak’s straps, and Violet tightly grasped her hand.
Violet’s hand was cold and wet, with rain on the back of her hand and in her palm, wetting Long Ling’s hand as well.
Violet’s eyes were red, and her soft breath fell on Long Ling’s fingertips: “It’s cold today because it rained.
Just treat this cloak as kindness from a stranger, okay?”
With Violet’s personality before, she would have lost her temper long ago, turned around, and left.
The fact that she would lower her head to coax her now made her feel a little unreal.
Long Ling still couldn’t forgive Violet, worried about becoming a caged bird again: “You are a little different now than before, but we can’t go back to how we were.”
Violet’s hand still held her hand, her lips looking even darker red in the rainy night, and her dark eyelashes were stained with wet rain.
Her once confident eyes were now dim.
Her voice was very low and hoarse: “Long Ling, I was wrong before.
I’ll take better care of your feelings in the future.”
Long Ling’s heart was a little chaotic, and she suddenly felt that she might be a little too harsh.
She couldn’t meet Violet’s broken gaze and say any more hurtful words.
But she didn’t want to believe Violet either.
Violet’s tenderness was only temporary, and being domineering and possessive was her true nature.
Long Ling looked away: “Don’t you have something to do?
Hurry up and go.”
Violet hid a hint of gloom deep in her eyes, held Long Ling’s hand, and didn’t want to let go: “I’ll come over again in the future.
Will you still be waiting for me at this tavern?”
Long Ling ignored Violet, lowered her head, and silently pulled her hand away.
Violet wanted to wait for an answer.
She was afraid that after she left, Long Ling would secretly leave this city again, and she would never find her little strawberry dragon again.
Violet was soaked all over.
Long Ling knew that if she didn’t leave, the old evil dragon would continue to stand in the rain.
Just then, the carriage from her home arrived.
Long Ling turned around, got into the carriage, and told the coachman to drive away immediately.
After the carriage had left a long distance, Long Ling lifted the curtain and saw that Violet was still standing in the rain, still watching the direction she had left in, not at all like the high-ranking Duchess she used to be.
The adjutant beside her held a black umbrella for her.
Her body was thinner than before, standing a little taller than her, but the clothes she was wearing weren’t warm.
The old evil dragon never knew how to take care of herself.
Violet couldn’t even take care of herself, yet she said she wanted to take care of her?
Violet waited until she couldn’t see Long Ling’s carriage anymore before leaving Livo Continent in a hurry.
It wasn’t easy for her to come this time, as she had to take a carriage and a ship, and transform into a dragon to pass through the canyon, and it wasn’t until dawn that she arrived at the Gries Harbour government hall.
She held meetings to discuss military intelligence, discussed disposal plans, met with visiting envoys, and handed over the recovered batch of weapons to Crown Prince Lorraine, and escorted away the officials suspected of being involved in the case.
Lorraine, as always, came to work in a proper manner, but secretly teased Violet: “Haven’t coaxed your little dragon back yet?”
Violet glanced coldly at Lorraine, ignoring her teasing.
Several days passed in a flash, and she was busy with official duties every day, without even having time to catch her breath.
The cooks at the manor prepared steaming hot meals, but Violet had no appetite because Long Ling hadn’t returned to her side, and could only reluctantly taste a few bites.
These dishes were made by Mina and were all taught to her by Long Ling.
But Violet tasted that the flavor was just not right, perhaps lacking a touch of strawberry, and the cute appearance of Long Ling feeding her cake for the first time, made it impossible for her to forget.
Violet’s body was immersed in the bathtub, the warm water washing over her, and the reddish-pink dragon scales on her legs were faintly visible.
She really wanted Long Ling to touch her legs today.
Before, when the little dragon massaged them with her hands, the pain would be reduced a lot.
She still remembered those gentlenesses so clearly, which was why she couldn’t bear to part with her little dragon even more.
But all she got was a cold and short embrace.
She was born with the fire element in her magic, so she shouldn’t be so cold, but a very important part of her heart was empty, and her hands and feet were terribly cold.
She knew that Long Ling must have been chilled by her, but she couldn’t control herself not to hug Long Ling, just like she couldn’t help but want to lock Long Ling up.
She just wanted to be able to see her little dragon at any time.
But Long Ling didn’t like it, and Long Ling told her that she wanted freedom, and she also had the life she wanted.
Violet came out of the bathroom and called Marcia, the housekeeper.
“Have someone move the Crystal Kitchen back and put it back in the rose garden.”
“Okay, I’ll arrange for someone to do it right away.”
The Crystal Kitchen had been moved back and forth more than twenty times by the Duchess in two months, so this wasn’t anything to be surprised about.
“Has all the wine that was brewed by the craftsmen been brewed?
Also, has there been any harvest from the farm that Long Ling left behind recently?”
“The hops that Long Ling planted have all been brewed into beer.
Some of the farm’s crops have also been harvested in the fall, and some won’t mature until the end of autumn.”
“Load them all onto a car and send them to Livo Continent.
I’ll have Ellena give you the exact address.”
Violet returned to her bedroom and changed into a different and gorgeous dress, carefully dressing herself up.
Thinking that she would be able to see her little strawberry dragon again today, Violet’s mood improved a lot, and her full lips were coated with a softer color.
She put down her lipstick and suddenly worried that Long Ling had left that tavern early.
Violet had been feeling restless these past few days, but there were many government affairs in Gries Harbour, and she had handled most of them, so she was finally able to rush over to see Long Ling.
