A World of Surprises and Familiar Bonds

Chapter 7 • 1,040 words • 9 min read

When Lin Shenyue opened her eyes again, she found herself within a village. The settlement was rather humble, composed primarily of simple European-style bungalows. Few people populated the village; only a handful stood chatting in the streets. Upon noticing Lin Shenyue, they immediately began to murmur amongst themselves.

Observing the villagers pointing and whispering about her, Lin Shenyue let out a long breath and opened her game panel.

After reviewing her attributes, Lin Shenyue’s cherry-red lips parted in a gasp. While her overall stats weren’t particularly formidable, the ‘Four Divine Beasts Bloodline’ listed under her race came as a profound shock. Moreover, even though her fashion item was sealed, it granted a significant amount of hidden attributes. Though Lin Shenyue had never played a similar game, she had read her share of online gaming novels and understood that while these two attributes didn’t directly boost her combat power, the hidden opportunities they offered far surpassed any other stat bonuses.

‘Is this what Father gave me?’ she mused. ‘Though I’m not sure what the Four Divine Beasts Bloodline does, it’s clearly going to be…’

Just as Lin Shenyue was caught in her surprise, a middle-aged woman approached. Snapping out of her daze, Lin Shenyue instantly recognized the woman’s identity upon seeing ‘Clothing Store Owner’ hovering above her head.

The Clothing Store Owner scrutinized Lin Shenyue intently, her gaze lingering until Lin Shenyue grew flustered. Only then did she smile faintly. “Child, you’re from another world, aren’t you?”

‘Another world?’ Lin Shenyue paused, then quickly understood. To the NPCs of this world, they were indeed outsiders. She nodded. “Yes, ma’am. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I apologize for the intrusion.” Her sweet voice instantly endeared her to the owner.

The owner surveyed her once more, a hint of hesitation in her voice. “You seem rather young, not yet an adult, perhaps? The Creator God has issued a divine oracle, stating that a multitude of heroes from other worlds will arrive tomorrow, but it seems they must be of age.”

Lin Shenyue’s lips twitched, a wry, helpless smile gracing her face. “Ma’am, I’m already eighteen this year. I’m an adult.”

The owner flushed slightly. “My apologies, you just look so young.” She glanced at the others who were watching them, then smiled. “No need to stare, everyone. This is someone from another world. Though it’s unclear why she arrived in our world today, there’s no doubt about her identity.” She then turned back to Lin Shenyue. “Since you’ve arrived in our world ahead of schedule, we’re bound by the divine oracle and cannot formally host you. However, you’re welcome to wander freely through our village; the villagers will be glad to have you.”

Lin Shenyue accepted with a cheerful nod. “Thank you, ma’am. I won’t trouble you any further. I’ll explore the village first, and then perhaps venture outside.”

The owner nodded, bid Lin Shenyue farewell, and then turned to leave.

As Lin Shenyue pondered where to go next, her father’s voice suddenly echoed in her ear. “Yue’er, come out of the village to meet us. It’s not convenient for us to appear directly within the settlement.” Lin Shenyue froze, looking around with a bewildered expression. ‘How do I even get out of the village?’

From within the temple, Lin Feimu and Qin Yuxin watched their daughter’s bewildered expression on a screen, exchanging amused glances. “Ah, right,” Qin Yuxin chuckled softly. “How could we forget our daughter’s hidden ‘road-idiot’ trait?” Lin Feimu then transmitted his voice. “Do you see the beam of light in front of you? Just follow it out.”

Lin Shenyue spotted a line of light extending out of the village before her and promptly hurried to follow it.

After approximately ten minutes, Lin Shenyue finally managed to exit the village.

Standing at the village entrance, Lin Feimu and Qin Yuxin greeted Lin Shenyue as soon as they saw her. Qin Yuxin gently inquired, “Yue’er, how are you feeling? Is anything uncomfortable?”

Lin Shenyue shook her head, smiling. “No, Mother, I’m perfectly fine.”

Qin Yuxin gazed at the graceful Lin Shenyue, teasing playfully, “My Yue’er is truly beautiful. I wonder which fortunate man will have the honor of marrying my precious Yue’er.”

The thought of herself nestled happily against a man’s chest sent a shiver down Lin Shenyue’s spine. She threw herself into Qin Yuxin’s embrace, whining playfully, “Mother, I don’t want to marry anyone! I want to stay by your side forever!” After performing the action, Lin Shenyue paused, surprised. ‘Such an obvious display of girlish affection, and I did it without a moment’s hesitation. Have I already accepted this identity? My adaptability must be quite strong indeed.’

Qin Yuxin laughed softly. “Alright, alright, my Yue’er won’t marry.” Yet, a secret thought bloomed in her mind: ‘That’s only because Yue’er hasn’t met the right person yet. When she does, it will be up to us to approve him.’

Lin Feimu watched the tender mother and daughter, a smile gracing his lips. “Alright, Xiner, Yue’er, we have an entire day to talk properly. Let’s go now and explore this world. While we’ve researched virtual technology, this world is not something I personally conceived.”

Lin Shenyue and Qin Yuxin both nodded in unison. Lin Feimu brought up a control panel, then led the mother and daughter on a tour of the world.
