Bai Lan felt things weren’t so simple. However, since Bai Yiren was unwilling to tell him, there seemed little point in pressing further.
Approximately half an hour later, Bai Lan followed Bai Yiren out of the underground stone chamber and ascended. Perhaps due to sleeping for too long, the sudden exposure to light was jarring.
His vision became a blinding white, prompting him to instinctively raise a hand to shield his eyes. Only when he had fully acclimated to the brightness did he lower his hand.
However, the world he then beheld was vastly different from what Bai Lan had imagined. The Fallen Immortal Pavilion, situated on higher ground within the valley, offered a perfect view of the central area and the surrounding landscapes.
This breathtaking world of flowers would astonish anyone who beheld it. Xue Yue had grown up in the Northern Snow Region, a place where nothing existed but ice and snow, and thus had never witnessed such an environment.
As for Bai Lan, hailing from modern Earth, he knew a world severely ravaged by technological advancement. Such pristine beauty was utterly unimaginable there. To Bai Lan, this place felt akin to a realm of immortals.
“This… this is the Luoshen Sect?” Bai Lan exclaimed in awe.
“Indeed, it is,” Bai Yiren confirmed. “Quite a shock, isn’t it? And rightly so. I wore the same expression when I first joined the Luoshen Sect.”
“Our sect comprises five factions. We stand now in the Fallen Immortal Pavilion; directly opposite is the Celestial Music Pavilion; to the left is Canglan Hall; and to the right, the Heavenly Fragrance Garden. Over there, that is the Luoshen Palace itself, the residence of the Sect Master.” Bai Yiren patiently outlined the layout of the Luoshen Sect’s domains for Bai Lan.
Bai Lan understood immediately, choosing not to press for more details. Sometimes, asking too many questions proved pointless and could even inadvertently reveal one’s true nature.
Just then, a lively, astonished cry suddenly reached Bai Lan’s ears.
“Eh? Little one, you’re actually awake? My heavens, this is simply incredible! After three years of slumber, you’ve truly woken up?”
Upon hearing the voice, Bai Lan immediately glanced to his right. There, he saw Luo Yuyan and Ximen Xue staring at him with evident surprise.
However, Bai Lan’s own initial reaction to them was one of utter astonishment.
Two more great beauties? These two must be the senior sisters Master mentioned. They must have been the ones looking after me during my unconsciousness. Bai Lan correctly surmised their identities.
Luo Yuyan, being quite straightforward, expressed genuine delight at Bai Lan’s awakening. She hurried over, reached out to grasp his hand, assessed his pulse, and then meticulously scrutinized his entire body.
“It seems he’s truly recovered,” Luo Yuyan murmured to herself. “His internal energy is stable, no longer that half-dead state from before. And his body appears to be perfectly fine.”
Luo Yuyan’s enthusiastic demeanor, however, left Bai Lan feeling utterly awkward. Having had virtually no prior contact with women, his instinct took over, and he reflexively withdrew his hand from Luo Yuyan’s soft, boneless grip.
“Eh?” Luo Yuyan paused, momentarily stunned. Yet, she quickly recovered. She had almost forgotten that the person before her was a boy; her actions might have been a tad too forward.
“Cough, cough, my apologies,” Luo Yuyan chuckled dryly. “It’s just a habit. I almost forgot you were a boy.”
Bai Lan offered an awkward smile in return, then composed his wandering thoughts before finally greeting them.
“It’s nothing,” Bai Lan replied. “You two must be the senior sisters Master spoke of. Thank you for looking after me these past few years.” He expressed his gratitude to the two women.
“Oh, it was nothing!” Luo Yuyan waved her hand dismissively, grinning. “I knew Master wanted to take you as a disciple! From now on, we’re practically sisters… oh, no, I mean, siblings.”
“Junior Sister, try to be a little more reserved,” Ximen Xue cautioned. “You might scare him away like this.”
Luo Yuyan merely offered a noncommittal smile. That was simply her nature; she was used to it.
Bai Yiren observed her second disciple, noting her apparent fondness for Bai Lan, and a knowing smile touched her lips.
“You two,” Bai Yiren instructed. “This little one’s true identity must not be revealed to anyone else. Though we know he’s a boy, outwardly, he must be treated as a girl.”
“In three days, send him to the Outer Sect. After three years of cultivation there, bring him back to the Fallen Immortal Pavilion. For these next few days, you two should thoroughly introduce him to the workings of our Luoshen Sect.”
“Yes, Master,” the two women replied in unison, bowing respectfully.
Having finished instructing her senior and second disciples, Bai Yiren then turned her gaze to Bai Lan.
“Lan’er,” Bai Yiren began, “the Luoshen Sect is, after all, a sect of female cultivators. While your outward appearance doesn’t betray your true gender, there are still matters you must be mindful of. After all, men and women are different.”
Bai Lan was already acutely aware of this, needing no reminder from Bai Yiren.
“Don’t worry, Master,” Bai Lan nodded. “I will be careful.”
“Very well,” Bai Yiren said, “I have matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving first. If you have any questions or need anything, simply speak to your two senior sisters.”
With that instruction, she ascended into the sky, transforming into a streak of light that soared towards the Luoshen Palace, presumably to meet with the Sect Master.
Once Bai Yiren had departed, Luo Yuyan let out a sigh of relief. She then leaned closer to Bai Lan, her eyes twinkling as she asked.
“Little one, what’s your name?” she inquired with a grin. “You still remember it, right? I’m Luo Yuyan, your second senior sister. And over there, the one with a personality much like Master’s, that’s your senior sister, Ximen Xue.”
Ximen Xue, hearing her junior sister describe her thus, immediately retorted.
“You brat! Right away you’re speaking ill of me,” Ximen Xue chided. “When have I ever been ‘cold and aloof’? I merely cultivate ice-attribute techniques, so my aura is naturally cool.” Ximen Xue clarified.
However, to Bai Lan, Ximen Xue was virtually a carbon copy of Bai Yiren. Their temperaments were almost identical, a stark contrast to Luo Yuyan’s vibrant personality.
“I… I’m Bai Lan,” he answered. “That’s the only name I remember.”
“Bai Lan? The same surname as Master?” Luo Yuyan teased. “Hey, hey, you two aren’t distant relatives from the same clan, are you?”
Her reason for thinking this was simple: Bai Yiren treated Bai Lan with an uncommon kindness, something both sisters had clearly observed.
“Ah? That… that shouldn’t be the case, should it?” Bai Lan was taken aback.
“What do you mean, ‘shouldn’t be the case’?” Luo Yuyan clarified. “You wouldn’t know, but when Master brought you back, you were at death’s door.”
“She used a secret technique to transfer her own blood into your body, which is how your severe blood and qi depletion was remedied.”
Hearing Luo Yuyan explain that Bai Yiren had saved him by transferring her blood, Bai Lan’s feelings towards his Master instantly shifted, becoming entirely different. No wonder he had felt such a strong sense of affinity for Bai Yiren from the start.
So, a part of Bai Yiren’s blood flows within me.
“Is that truly how it was?” Bai Lan fell into contemplation.
“Yes, that’s exactly how it was. Alright, alright, let’s not dwell on this anymore,” Luo Yuyan declared. “Come on, Senior Sister and I will take you on a tour.”
“Of course, remember not to reveal your true identity. If you have any questions along the way, just ask directly.”
Bai Lan had no objections. After all, he had just awakened. Even though his bodily functions had been restored due to the integration of the Chaos Divine Bone, he still felt a strange stiffness. A walk to stretch his limbs would certainly do him good.
