“So does that mean it doesn’t matter what I do at home?”
Seha asked the secretary of Cha Jeongyun, who had introduced himself as Shin Donghyeon.
He was currently on a leave of absence from school and wasn’t working either, so it was a little strange that such a person needed a secretary.
But he figured that chaebol families probably had their own rules and decided not to think too deeply about it.
Though he was called a secretary, in Donghyeon’s case he seemed to also act as Jeongyun’s bodyguard.
Secretary Shin nodded at Seha’s question and opened his mouth.
“Yes.
As long as you don’t leave your post for an extended period without permission, you’re free to do whatever you want.”
“So I don’t need permission just to step out briefly, like to the mart in front of the house?”
“No, not for that.
But if you’ll be away for more than an hour, you must inform me beforehand.”
“Okay….”
Jeongyun, apparently, had fallen asleep as soon as he entered his room.
Meanwhile, Seha was being briefed by Secretary Shin on what he needed to do, what he must not do, holidays, and the basic rules to follow for Jeongyun’s safety, among other things.
“Sunday is my free day, right?”
Seha asked again to confirm the most important condition alongside the pay.
Now that Seha would be living in this house, his younger sibling would be left alone at home.
At least once a week, he needed to drop by, take care of the housework, and look after them.
Sejin told him not to worry, said they weren’t a child anymore, and tried to sound brave.
But the one with separation anxiety was Seha.
He had never been apart from his sibling for this long and wasn’t sure if he could handle it well.
Fortunately, Secretary Shin didn’t object.
“Yes, of course.
But you were informed in advance that for the first month, your day off will be every other week, correct?”
“Ah, yes.
I heard.
Starting next month, I’ll be off every Sunday.”
“And even on your day off, you’re not allowed to stay out overnight without permission.
If you absolutely must, let us know in advance, and please be careful so that it doesn’t happen if possible.
Your job, Jin Seha, is to stay as close to our young master as possible, for as long as possible.”
“Yes, I understand.”
Seha answered without hesitation.
Having his freedom so tightly controlled might be uncomfortable, but it wasn’t much of an issue for him.
After all, Seha had never had much freedom to begin with.
He was used to working from early morning until dawn, sometimes almost through the entire night.
And even after working like that, the money he earned was barely anything.
But this job paid an unimaginable amount, and the workload was expected to be incomparably light.
He had told his sibling that he was working as a live-in helper.
But there were separate staff who handled the housework.
Following a third-generation chaebol around all day was, to Seha, an absurdly easy task.
“And also….”
Secretary Shin’s voice darkened noticeably at that moment.
Seha’s expression stiffened as well.
Secretary Shin continued.
“The decision to bring you into the house was entirely the Chairman’s.
The young master opposed it.”
“Ah….”
“So for a while… things might be a bit difficult for you.”
“Yes.
I figured as much.”
Seha shrugged as he recalled Jeongyun’s attitude toward him just moments ago.
Jeongyun’s effort to avoid being openly hostile while clearly wanting him gone was almost admirable.
Making money really was this hard.
At Seha’s reply, which seemed to say he understood everything without needing further explanation, Secretary Shin gave a small, polite smile and continued.
“He’s had a difficult life since childhood.
He was hospitalized frequently and barely experienced normal school life.
Because of that, he’s not very good at dealing with people who aren’t family.”
In simple terms, it meant he had a bad personality.
That he was selfish and difficult.
Seha immediately grasped the gist of what Secretary Shin was saying.
Even so, it wasn’t a particularly difficult situation.
Seha replied casually.
“Don’t worry.
I’m used to people like that.”
Jin Seha, through countless part-time jobs, had dealt with all kinds of problematic customers.
Young troublemakers, old troublemakers, child troublemakers, and everything in between.
Of course, a third-generation chaebol-level troublemaker was new territory.
But for the amount of money being offered, he was confident he could handle it.
Secretary Shin looked at Seha’s calm face with a slightly suspicious expression, then stood up.
After all, any conversation held before truly experiencing Jeongyun firsthand didn’t mean much.
“Then I’ll be going now.
When the young master wakes up—”
“Make sure he eats the prepared meal and takes his medicine.
And if there’s any health issue, contact the number you gave me instead of calling 119.”
“…Yes.”
“If any problems come up, I’ll contact you right away.
Don’t worry too much and head back.”
Seeing Seha handle on his own the points he had been about to repeat, Secretary Shin looked noticeably relieved.
Just from this conversation, it was clear that Seha was quick and capable at work.
The real question was how nasty Jeongyun would be toward this man.
And how quickly Seha would give up or adapt.
Even having been close to Jeongyun for years, that wasn’t something easy to predict.
Still, it was a relief that this man didn’t seem like the type to run away in fear after a single outburst from Jeongyun.
“Alright.
Then I’ll trust you, Seha, and take my leave.”
“Travel safely.”
Seha saw Secretary Shin off with the ease of someone who had already lived in the house for days.
After the worried-looking secretary left and the house grew quiet, Seha glanced around once more before sitting neatly back down on the sofa.
He wanted to explore the house a bit more.
But the fact that Jeongyun was sleeping made him hesitant.
If he made noise and woke him up, nothing good would come of it.
Whether he liked it or not, he’d be living in this house from now on.
So there would be plenty of chances to look around later.
For now, Seha decided to wait calmly and patiently for Jeongyun to wake up—whenever that might be.
Taking out his phone, Seha sent a message first to his kind and lovely sibling.
The one who was probably worrying about him.
The thought that if he could just endure here until December, he’d be able to raise his one and only sibling without lacking anything filled him with motivation.
Endure.
No matter what, endure.
Remembering young Sejin, who had once promised with tiny fingers that they would someday make their big brother live in comfort, Seha steeled his heart.
