Glancing at his watch, Chi Bai realized it was fifteen minutes to noon, meaning he had run for forty-five minutes, yet only covered half the distance.
In the interim, he had dispatched four or five zombies, and his stamina was utterly depleted.
Consequently, Chi Bai decided to rest nearby, as he was ravenously hungry.
The spot where he stopped was quite opportune, right near a supermarket.
He ventured inside, hoping to scavenge for food or supplies.
The moment he stepped in, he realized he had made a grave mistake.
‘Damn it, why are there more zombies roaming in here than outside?!’ he thought in dismay.
Oh, right.
Supermarkets were typically teeming with people—commuters, shoppers, and casual strollers alike.
Those who could flee the streets outside had done so by car, and since he had taken back alleys, he hadn’t encountered many people.
It was only natural for him to assume there wouldn’t be many people inside either.
Thus, as Chi Bai continued to smash zombie heads while gasping for breath, he still found time to regret his erroneous decision.
Gazing at the zombies charging toward him, Chi Bai genuinely wished to avoid relying on brute force any longer; it was not only exhausting but also prone to getting him dirty.
Leaning against a pristine tiled wall, propped up by his baseball bat, he swept a hand through his bangs and grinned broadly.
“This old man isn’t playing with you anymore.”
With that, he raised his hand toward the dozen-odd zombies before him and shouted, “Taste my Palm Lightning––––”
No sooner had the words left his lips than a dazzling blue-violet light erupted from Chi Bai’s palm, rushing forth and scattering with a roaring surge.
The surrounding air ionized, and intensely bright white electrical arcs coursed through the zombies.
Crackling sounds mingled with the acrid smell of burning flesh, filling the air.
Chi Bai stared at his palm in astonishment, having merely been experimenting and never expecting such devastating power.
The zombies that had been howling moments before were now reduced to mere ash.
The supermarket’s marble floor tiles were shattered by the coursing electricity, the pristine white walls on either side turned scorched black, and dust rained down from the ceiling.
As the zombie remnants gradually dissipated, a transparent crystal nucleus materialized where one of the zombies had stood.
Chi Bai walked over and picked it up.
Unsure if other zombies might still be lurking after the recent slaughter, Chi Bai opted against putting it into his backpack immediately, deciding instead to wait until he reached the rendezvous point to find an opportunity to absorb it.
Unbeknownst to Chi Bai, a dark cloud faintly gathered in the sky outside the supermarket, only to disperse on its own moments later.
He gazed at his palm.
‘The power of lightning abilities is truly terrifying!’ he mused.
His last attack had nearly drained all of his ability energy.
Fortunately, he had retained some rationality and held back a bit, using only sixty to seventy percent of his full power.
Even that was quite formidable.
The first-floor hall was easily one or two hundred square meters, and the entire hall, save for the area directly behind Chi Bai, was now scorched black and shattered by the lightning.
“Holy hell, I’m too strong! Hahaha~”
Just as Chi Bai was reveling in the awe-inspiring prowess of his newfound abilities, the concealed fire exit door beside the wall he was leaning against creaked open, revealing the people within.
Chi Bai immediately sprang away, raising his baseball bat defensively as he fixed his gaze on the door.
Once it fully opened, he looked at the newcomer with a hint of surprise.
He stood there, like an unthawed shard of ice, cold and silent.
His brows and eyes were sharply defined, as if sculpted by a blade, dark and keen.
When his lashes lowered, they cast a faint shadow beneath his eyes.
His nose bridge was high and prominent, his lips pale, pressed into a straight, thin line, as if uttering even one more word would be a waste.
The recent lightning strike had shattered the floor and slightly damaged the ceiling, so there must have been residual tremors in the fire exit passage, causing some dust to fall when the door opened.
The man coughed, choked by the dust.
His wrist, visible beneath his sleeve, was distinctly bony, so pale that faint blue veins were discernible.
When he raised his eyes and looked over, those eyes were as frigid as winter stars, distant yet sharp, making one hesitate to approach.
The instant his gaze swept over, Chi Bai’s blood seemed to roar in his eardrums.
Thump-thump, thump-thump, each beat so clear it felt as if someone were tapping right beside his ear.
‘What’s making such a racket?’ ‘Oh, it’s just my heart.’
Chi Bai pressed a hand to his chest, inwardly urging his heart to behave.
Yet, the person before him seemed to hit every single one of his preferences.
Call it infatuation at first sight if you will, but his heart had undeniably fluttered.
The man lowered his hand and stepped aside, revealing the people hidden behind him.
Only then did Chi Bai notice several other individuals in the fire exit passage.
‘His boss was among them?’
