A Word on Going Premium: Birth, Growth, and Gratitude

Chapter 71 • 950 words • 8 min read

This is a declaration upon the novel’s premium release.

On April 16, 2024, the very first chapter of this book was officially created and published.

Tomorrow, May 25, 2024, marks its imminent transition to a premium serialization.

These two dates represent significant milestones: its birth and its growth. Perhaps the third will be the book’s eventual conclusion.

The person I was on April 15th could never have conceived that a burgeoning idea, intensifying within my mind, would so profoundly, if briefly, alter the course of my life.

Before I even began writing, the outline for this book was, in truth, far from complete, possessing only a rather vague main storyline.

My intention was to craft a narrative about an admiring youth transforming into a gentle girl, a story imbued with superpowers, ideally set within a school environment.

Prior to publishing any chapters, I just barely managed to solidify the settings, establish the main plot, and complete a partial outline.

To speak candidly, the process utterly exhausted me.

At that time, my sole purpose was to release a ‘transformation-into-marriage’ (TL Note: A specific subgenre of web novels where a male protagonist transforms into a female and eventually marries) work, thereby reminiscing about the period when I avidly read such stories.

I penned this book purely for my own amusement and satisfaction.

Consequently, the first chapter was drafted and posted without much deliberation, and I didn’t even consider participating in any writing contests.

Yet, to my surprise, Editor Bayelian, with their truly discerning eye (just kidding!), unearthed me.

Following that, I successfully secured a contract, putting the novel on its proper course, and gradually began regular updates.

What truly astonished me, however, was the immense affection this book garnered from many ‘transformation-into-marriage’ enthusiasts, and even from readers who had never previously delved into this particular genre.

This unexpected reception left me feeling profoundly humbled, yet simultaneously stirred a faint, undeniable sense of pride within me.

After all, what author wouldn’t wish for their creation to be cherished by others?

In any case, I, Ajuju, wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the readers who have consistently offered their unwavering support!

(A deep, 180-degree bow!)

Every monthly pass and every tip you’ve given has been etched into my heart.

So many ‘big shots’ have generously tipped and cast numerous monthly passes that I’ve almost committed all your names to memory.

I have also meticulously read every single one of your critiques and comments.

Apart from those that were genuinely difficult or impossible to address, I have, for the most part, responded to them all.

I sincerely hope you will all continue to provide abundant feedback and critiques in the days to come!

After all, without your precious feedback, my hands literally tremble when I’m typing!

Ahem, but let us return to the main subject.

I currently anticipate that this book will exceed one million words, encompassing the entirety of the protagonist’s university life.

Whether I continue writing beyond that point remains an entirely separate consideration.

Since signing the contract, with the exception of the past three days spent stockpiling chapters, my daily updates have consistently maintained a minimum of 4,000 words.

Upon its premium release, I intend to adjust my daily updates to fall within the range of 4,000 to 6,000 words.

Why, you might ask, is there a range?

Given that I hold a full-time job, I always ensure I have at least one day’s worth of chapters saved to guarantee consistent updates.

Thus, if I manage to write 6,000 words on a given evening, I will then update with 6,000 words the following day.

However, if I only manage to produce around 2,000 or 4,000 words that day due to overtime or the dreaded writer’s block, then I will only be able to provide a 4,000-word update the next day.

Nevertheless, I will exert my utmost effort to consistently deliver 6,000 words per day.

It’s just that lately, I’ve found myself burning the midnight oil, typing away every single night…

For four consecutive nights, I’ve pulled extensive all-nighters, going to bed past 2 AM each day, rising at 7:30 AM for work, and then immediately diving into writing at 7 PM after I finish.

I genuinely feel as though I am on the verge of sudden collapse.

Therefore, for the remainder of this month, updates will continue at 4,000 words, allowing me to both accumulate chapters and snatch some much-needed rest.

The 6,000-word update plan will officially commence next month. Oh, and the three chapters I owe will be delivered within this month, not deferred until next.

Allow me a moment to playfully complain to Baobao (TL Note: A common, affectionate nickname often used for a close friend or a significant other); this 20,000-word launch update is truly overwhelming, it completely depleted my stored chapters!

Alright, finally, at midnight tonight, this book will unleash a torrent of 10 chapters all at once, allowing everyone to indulge in a satisfying, uninterrupted reading experience (or so I hope).

I sincerely hope that those with financial means will offer monetary support, and those with votes will lend their voting power!

At the very least, please help boost the initial subscriptions.

(Because my next recommendation slot hinges entirely on the first week’s performance, *sniffles*)

Oh, and to offer a slight spoiler about the current plot, the second round of interviews has now reached its most pivotal moment.

Once these interviews conclude, the protagonist will return home for a confession, followed by matriculation.

(I’ve penned 150,000 words and still haven’t concluded the second round of interviews. I am truly a ‘scum’ (TL Note: A self-deprecating internet slang term, ‘xiè,’ often used humorously to describe oneself as incompetent or worthless); I genuinely believed 150,000 words would have been ample to cover up to matriculation…)
