The Truth-Telling Talisman

Chapter 71862 words8 min read

Only Bai Wanwan truly understood the reality of the situation. This particular nurse bore an uncanny resemblance to Liu Hanzhi when they had first met.

She was incredibly dishonest.

Had it not been for Bai Wanwan’s formidable iron rod, which had beaten her until she incessantly pleaded for mercy, the nurse would likely still be swaggering within the eerie realm.

Bai Wanwan found herself utterly bewildered. How was it that every single one of these little female ghosts refused to relent until they were staring death in the face?

They were all like impish sprites; a mere casual encounter with them would invariably lead to a hardening of… one’s fists.

Only when firm fists connected with their small heads, and the pain became undeniable, would they finally plead for mercy.

“I’m going to ask you questions now, and you will answer precisely what I ask,” Bai Wanwan threatened. “Dare to lie, and I’ll stuff you into a sack and toss you into a washing machine to tumble endlessly!”

Bai Wanwan murmured her threat to the small nurse before her. At Bai Wanwan’s words, the nurse’s face blanched with terror, and she nodded frantically.

While others might have dismissed such words as a mere jest, the nurse dared not risk it coming from Bai Wanwan.

“What’s your name?”

Bai Wanwan posed her first question, assuming the nurse wouldn’t possibly lie about something as simple as her name.

However, she had gravely underestimated the cunning of a vengeful spirit. The nurse’s eyes darted, and a mischievous scheme instantly sprang to mind.

“My name is Liu Ruyan…”

“Pfft!”

The nurse had barely finished speaking when Liu Hanzhi, beside them, couldn’t suppress a burst of laughter.

“Look, sister, you’d best abandon any tricks,” Liu Hanzhi advised. “This one managed to drag you out of the eerie realm; outside of it, she possesses a myriad of ways to torment you.”

“And besides, I’ve already claimed the name Liu Ruyan. It won’t work for you…”

Liu Hanzhi whispered her warning. It was only then that the nurse truly scrutinized Liu Hanzhi.

She had initially presumed Liu Hanzhi was merely Bai Wanwan’s subservient lackey, an easily manipulated pushover.

After all, back in the eerie realm, Liu Hanzhi had been pinned down and tormented by several of the nurse’s own ghost subordinates, merely cowering in a corner, hands clutched over her head.

But now, it seemed, Liu Hanzhi was anything but simple!

“You’re a ghost too, then? But your physical body… it’s made of paper? Who crafted it? The artistry is incredible! Without a careful inspection, one would never guess it’s not a real body…”

The nurse was utterly astonished. Given Liu Hanzhi’s apparent weakness, she had assumed her to be an ordinary human.

Weak she might be, but her “hardware” was undeniably superior. A paper-crafted body of this caliber was something many ghosts could only dream of possessing.

“Ahem, I am the one asking questions now,” Bai Wanwan interjected. “Answer truthfully, or else…”

Bai Wanwan produced a talisman from her robes and waved it before the nurse. “Otherwise, I’ll force you to chant ‘Ciallo~(∠・ω< )⌒☆!' for twenty-four hours straight!"

"No! Please, no, anything but that!" the nurse shrieked. "I'll confess, I'll tell you everything! 'Yuzu fan steamed goose heart'—don't turn me into a Yuzu fan!"

The nurse was truly frantic now, her composure completely shattered.

"Name!"

"Shi Xiangning…"

Her answer this time was noticeably more fluid. However, given her prior history of deceit, and the absolute necessity for truth in Bai Wanwan's subsequent inquiries, the matter couldn't be left to chance.

Thus, Bai Wanwan resolved to employ a particular method!

This wasn't about bullying the nurse, but rather utilizing a talisman to compel her to speak the unvarnished truth.

Bai Wanwan recalled a Truth-Telling Talisman. The user would clasp it between their breasts, and each talisman would guarantee one honest answer from the questioned individual.

In truth, she had long considered using this item, especially since Liu Hanzhi herself had been less than forthcoming in the beginning.

As for why she hadn't used it then…

The reason was quite simple: its conditions for use were excessively stringent.

It required being held between the breasts. Bai Wanwan wasn't sure of the exact reasoning, perhaps it was to signify a desire for heartfelt truth?

While Bai Wanwan's own chest was certainly ample, securing a talisman between her breasts would still prove somewhat challenging, requiring manual assistance—a rather undignified sight.

But now, circumstances had changed…

Bai Wanwan's gaze drifted to Liu Hanzhi's bosom, a generous curve that rivaled even Chu Annian's, and a playful smile involuntarily graced her lips.

If it were Liu Hanzhi, wouldn't it be an effortless feat to clasp ten or even eight talismans with ease?

"Liu Hanzhi!"

"Here! What is it, Wanwan?"

Suddenly called upon, Liu Hanzhi tilted her head, gazing at Bai Wanwan with an innocent curiosity. She remained entirely oblivious to the gravity of the situation unfolding.

"Take off your top!"

"Yes… huh? What?"
