Chapter 75 Part 6: Exam

“Next training!”

I moved along the course as Rain said.

What would the next training be?

I followed her and walked quickly, arriving in front of a place where there were many large targets.

“This?”

“It’s to increase long-distance accuracy!”

“Did you do this last time too…?”

I asked her just in case.

Rain nodded and raised her hand.

“Yeah. But I didn’t do as well as before.”

I went to the place where the red line was drawn and stood while listening to Rain.

The targets far away filled my vision.

Shine just watched from afar.

She nodded as if she believed in me.

Amy was standing next to Shine, holding a folder in her hand and writing something down.

“Cheer up, Jeff!”

Maybe she felt my gaze.

Amy, who was writing down the documents, waved and smiled.

My heart melted at the warm affection in her smile.

I fiddled with the hem of my tracksuit and wiggled my fingers for no reason.

“What are you doing?”

“Press the button in front of you to start right away.”

“Do I have to hit the target with just my ability?”

“Any method using my ability is fine.”

Rain said and stood in front of the red line herself.

It seemed like she was going to demonstrate.

I took a step back from Rain and watched her.

Rain confidently reached out and pressed the red button.

The mechanical devices started to operate with a beep-! sound.

The targets that were visible in the distance began to move at a subtle speed.

“Weren’t you supposed to be still?”

“Still targets are too easy.”

Rain said and took out a small water gun from her pocket.

It was a dolphin-shaped water gun that was sold with candy at stationery stores.

“Yuck!”

Rain’s finger pulled the trigger of the dolphin water gun.

A stream of water shot out from the dolphin’s lips with a beep.

Unlike its cute feeling, the stream of water shot out like light and hit the target.

Pewtch- Pewtch Pewtch.

The dolphin’s water spurts fired continuously from Rain’s hand.

A rainbow sparkled as it crossed the air.

Her water stream hit every target without fail.

“This is how you do it.”

As if the explanation was over, Rain spun the dolphin water gun in her hand and put it in her pocket.

It was a gesture that reminded me of a gunman in a Western movie.

“Thanks for the explanation, Rain.”

I walked over to Rain and hugged her tightly.

Rain flailed her arms as if she was flustered, but I didn’t let go.

Because I knew that Rain liked hugs.

She showed a weak resistance, but after a while, she became quiet.

After swiping her back once or twice and letting Rain go, Rain, whose ears were red, shyly opened her mouth.

“Ugh… You have to do well.”

I nodded to Rain’s words and went to stand where the red line was drawn.

Rain, who had been watching me like that, suddenly stepped back.

There was no need to be strong.

The goal was to hit the target.

I placed my hand on the button while catching my breath.

I can do it.

It was the training I had done with Victor before, so there was no reason I couldn’t do it.

I thought as I pressed the button.

The mechanical sound began to be heard.

The target began to move after being activated.

I watched it and raised my hand.

Crackle- A blue light shot up and a flash of light spread out from the tip of my finger.

A straight line.

The current that had been stretching out straight suddenly dispersed right before hitting the target.

Panicked, I fired the current once more, but the result was similar.

Fire, fire, fire lightning shooting out one after another.

But if you fly a certain distance, all the lightning trajectories will be distorted.

Panicked, I pulled out even more power.

Crackle, crackle – A blue current covered my entire arm.

I pulled out enough power to brighten up the surroundings.

Boom!

The blue flash that shot out from my arm engulfed everything around it.

White smoke rose from the air.

Even the target was charred black.

I definitely hit the target I was aiming for, but it was too much power.

As I looked back with a tearful face, Shine waved her hand slightly.

“Jeff. You can do it.”

I bit my lips to hold back tears at her encouragement.

I can do it.

Those words made me move forward in the next direction.

Target shooting was a training session I had with Victor.

Victor, a lightning-type user who was better than me.

He had given me a lot of advice.

If that was the case, then there must be advice that could help me resolve this situation.

I desperately searched my memories.

“Ah…!”

At that moment, I remembered Victor sending the iron bar flying with his powers.

The iron bar, wrapped in blue lightning, flew so fast that it was hard to believe it had been blown away with a light gesture.

I looked around.

However, I couldn’t find the iron bar I was looking for.

While I was sobbing, I discovered something clanking and showing off its presence in my pocket.

“Coin…”

What came out of my pocket was a commemorative coin with Lucy’s face on it.

The blue current gathered at my fingertips and wrapped around the coin.

The coin, which rose gently, began to spin quickly.

Spin, spin, spin—

The coin, spinning quickly, twinkled like starlight.

My eyes sparkled.

“Lucy. Help me.”

The blue current gathered at my fingertips.

The moment when a huge force gathered into one, I flicked my finger.

Snap!

A strange misalignment at my fingertips.

The shock transmitted to the spinning coin spread widely.

The starlight shattered.

Countless starlights flew apart.

I opened my mouth at the sight of it covering the entire sky.

Pavababak!

Countless shooting stars passed the target and covered everything around them.

Blue lights flashed in the trajectories left in the air.

“Wow!”

I heard cheers from behind me.

The moment all the targets fell, Rain ran to me and grabbed my body.

“That’s really cool, Jeff! How did you do that?”

“Rain…”

I slowly turned my head and made a sad face.

Rain, who had been enjoying herself alone, saw my expression and stopped laughing.

“Why? Why? Where does it hurt?”

I hugged her without saying a word.

The feeling of loss when one of my treasured possessions disappeared was so sad that it was indescribable.

The iron bar was fine when Victor did it.

However, when I followed him and flicked the coin, it split apart.

The pieces of the coin were so blackened by the huge electric shock that even the remains could not be found.

If I had known this would happen, I would have used a normal coin instead of Lucy’s commemorative coin.

But regret always comes too late.

I held back my sadness and hugged Rain tighter.

“Jeff, I can’t breathe.”

As I held Rain, who was fluttering in my arms, Shine and Amy came closer.

“Good job! Jeff. Your record is better than usual, isn’t it?”

I let Rain go and answered Amy’s words.

“Thank you, Amy.”

Amy smiled and patted my head.

The hair that had been swaying with static electricity calmed down.

“Jeff! What did you just do?”

Shine clung to my arm, his eyes sparkling as if he liked the coin crushing I had just shown him.

I wasn’t in a good mood right now.

But I couldn’t take out my anger on Shine, so I let out a small sigh and shook off the anger inside me.

I looked back silently.

The targets were scorched earth.

Broken and burned, and even the good floor had deep gouges left behind.

However, everyone around me seemed familiar with it, continuing their training without even giving them a glance.

Since there were many people with abilities, this kind of thinking seemed familiar.

“Lucy Meteor?” I muttered the name of the technique quietly.

Looking at the blue lights pouring down from the sky, I was reminded of a meteor shower.

And since it was a scene created with Lucy’s commemorative coin, wouldn’t the name Lucy Meteor be appropriate?

I checked the reactions of the people around me to see if the name I gave them sounded strange.

“Lucy?”

“Yeah….”

“Why Lucy?”

“Well… the coin was Lucy’s commemorative coin.”

“Jeff.”

“Ugh…”

“Can’t I?”

“Huh?”

“Not Lucy Meteor, let’s call it Shine Meteor.”

I kept my mouth shut at Shine’s confident words.

In fact, I didn’t care what the name of the technique was.

I couldn’t say anything because the jealousy I could feel in Shine’s eyes was burdensome.

“Shine Meteor!”

She grabbed my cheek and spoke each word one by one.

As if she was going to pound it into my brain, she spoke again.

“Follow me, Jeff. Shine Meteor!”

“Shine Meteor…”

“Good job.”

Shine patted my head with a satisfied expression at my answer.

My mouth softened at the small hands that dug in gently.

“Jeff. The technique you just showed me. Can I use it again?”

While I was being patted by Shine, Amy, who was organizing her documents, asked me.

It wasn’t that hard, so I nodded.

“But I need coins.”

I said, thinking of Lucy’s commemorative coin that had melted into thin air.

Amy nodded at my words and took out small coins from her pocket and handed them to me.

“Actually, I think a bar would be fine, too.”

Amy looked around at my words.

But she shook her head as if she couldn’t find the bar I wanted.

“Sorry, Jeff. Coins are all I can give you right now.”

“It’s okay.”

“Okay, then. Can you show me again?”

Amy said and pointed to the targets that were in disarray.

“They’re all broken?”

“Don’t worry about the targets; they’re the only places where I can fire my skills.”

I nodded to Amy.

It wasn’t that hard to grant her request.

Amy’s request was very important to me.

Even if it was more difficult than this, even if it was something that was very hard for me to grant, I would have tried to fulfill her request.

Amy was that precious to me.

“Let’s start.”

I held my breath and raised my hand.

Just like before, I drew out my power.

Blue electricity began to wrap around my hand, and a bright light burst out that illuminated the surroundings.

Pizzik!

The small coin in my hand began to float and spin.

Ping—The more it spun, the brighter the light from the coin began to shine.

I watched it and flicked my finger.

Pizzik!

A similar sensation from before was transmitted to my fingertips.

The moment my finger tapped the body of the coin, the electricity contained within exploded in all directions.

Bang!

The starlight that burst from my hand shattered into countless small pieces and exploded in all directions.

The starlight that had been decorating the air eventually fell to the ground.

Kwakwakwak!

Blue starlights flew and struck everywhere.

The walls distorted, and the ground cracked deeply.

It showed that the power contained within was not ordinary.

This was Lucy… No, Shine Meteor.

I shook my hand and released the remaining current.

“How is it?”

“You’re getting stronger, Jeff.”

I smiled slightly at Amy’s words.

If I get stronger, I can help Amy.

That fact made me unbearably happy.
