The Undead Scourge and a New Path

Chapter 751,191 words10 min read

When the game updated, Lin Shenyue felt her consciousness instantly shift, landing her in a room.

The room was clearly a girl’s, spacious and filled with a pervasive pink aura.

A strange sense of familiarity washed over Lin Shenyue.

Unbeknownst to her, Lin Feimu and Qin Yuxin had meticulously designed this room as an exact replica of her old home.

They had anticipated future game updates, and to prevent Lin Shenyue’s consciousness from lingering in darkness during these transitions, they created this space.

It was configured to pull her into this room whenever an update occurred, explaining her inexplicable feeling of familiarity.

However, since she possessed none of her past memories and wasn’t the original Lin Shenyue, this familiarity stemmed purely from her body’s innate sensations.

Upon entering the room, Lin Shenyue hesitated. She chose not to explore the house, but instead settled onto the bed to review the latest update information.

By then, the official Divine Realm website had already published the newest patch notes.

Significant changes had been made to the character panel, and skill proficiency was added for all professions.

Every profession’s skills could now be upgraded. Players could visit their profession mentor to upgrade skills using gold, though this required skill points and was quite expensive.

The number of skill points needed would increase with each skill level.

Alternatively, skills could be upgraded by maxing out proficiency and spending relatively fewer skill points.

Skill points would be retroactively awarded to all individuals who had earned honor, with one point automatically granted every three levels.

Additionally, a hunger display was implemented, no longer just a simple status effect, but clearly represented by a numerical value.

The game officially launched leaderboards, which included rankings for level, strength (determined by a system rating), arena (competitions held every three months), pets, prestige, and wealth, among others.

The most substantial update was the official launch of the first expansion pack, aptly named ‘Undead Scourge.’

As the name suggested, this heralded the arrival of vast undead armies.

Expansion Pack: Undead Scourge.

After a meticulously planned scheme, the Demon Race allied with the Nether Race to open a portal to the Human Realm.

They sent low-level undead warriors as a vanguard to deplete humanity’s vital forces.

What they didn’t realize was that their actions in the novice villages had already failed, and you, the Anomalies from another world, would become the key to this conflict.

This expansion pack will last for 15 days. In the initial days, only low-level, small-scale undead armies will attack.

As time progresses, the number of undead forces will increase significantly, and their levels will rise slightly. Players are encouraged to explore specific details on their own.

Note: Undead sieges will also consume your daily experience acquisition time.

Beyond these two major updates, several minor adjustments were made, such as balancing skills across professions.

The initial testing had been rather rushed, resulting in somewhat uneven game balance.

However, after this update, professional balance was greatly enhanced, largely eliminating situations where certain professions felt utterly useless.

Inside the game, Lin Shenyue waited idly for the update to conclude, browsing forum posts as she anticipated its arrival.

The forums were abuzz with discussions about the update. Bai Xiaosheng had even provided a detailed explanation, which Lin Shenyue quickly skimmed.

For her, the path was clear: as long as she followed Ye Jue, there would be no issues.

A slight pause came over Lin Shenyue as she considered this. If she truly separated from Ye Jue now, whom would she seek to guide her?

She didn’t realize that her former self had also been indecisive. Due to her poor sense of direction, Xu Linglong had usually been the one to make decisions, while Lin Shenyue simply listened.

But now, Xu Linglong wasn’t with her, and Ye Jue had presented her with a rather significant dilemma.

For someone with her difficulty in making choices, this was not an easy decision to reach.

As Lin Shenyue pondered quietly, time slipped away, and the moment for the server to reopen arrived without her noticing.

Only when a prompt suddenly appeared before her, asking if she wished to return to the game, did she react, clicking ‘yes.’

Upon entering the game, Ye Jue had not yet logged on, so she began to examine her current character panel.

Just then, Ye Jue logged on. Seeing Lin Shenyue already at her spot, he was momentarily surprised. After a moment’s thought, he asked, “So, what have you decided?”

Although he hadn’t experienced this particular update, he was intimately familiar with the character panel’s future iterations, as it hadn’t changed much since this patch.

Therefore, he knew precisely what had been altered without needing to check.

Lin Shenyue hesitated, then finally replied, “While I don’t particularly enjoy conflict, I imagine it’s unavoidable in this game, isn’t it? Rather than preparing only when something sudden occurs, it’s better to start now.”

Upon hearing this, a gleam of joy flashed in Ye Jue’s eyes. “You mean, you agree?”

Lin Shenyue nodded, her voice soft. “Mm-hmm.”

Ye Jue smiled. Even in his previous life, acquiring a legendary-grade item hadn’t brought him such happiness.

However, having faced life and death, he was adept at controlling his emotions, so he only appeared slightly excited.

“Then, I officially welcome you to our Defying Fate squad,” Ye Jue stated with seriousness.

Lin Shenyue let out a long breath. “I feel much lighter after making a decision.”

Ye Jue felt a pang of guilt upon hearing her words. He inquired, “Was I perhaps pushing you too hard?”

Lin Shenyue chuckled, observing Ye Jue’s careful demeanor. “Perhaps. But isn’t it precisely because of that that I could make a decision sooner?”

Ye Jue smiled. “Come on. After the update, the Mage Guild Leader should be back. However, he’ll leave again soon, so let’s go find him now.”

Lin Shenyue acknowledged him and followed Ye Jue toward the Mage Guild.
