The mermaid and the lucky pearl

Chapter 76 • 2,365 words • 20 min read

Long Ling and Anne boarded the cruise ship together.

After walking inside, there were only the three of them.

Violet sat down in the cabin and arranged for the ship’s chef to prepare some food.

Long Ling had been swimming in the sea for so long with her and must be hungry.

It would take some time to sail from the harbor to the Mysterious Island, enough time for them to adjust and replenish their energy.

“Let’s eat together.”

Violet crossed her legs and sat gracefully next to Long Ling.

Anne sat opposite them, feeling a sense of oppression.

Eating at the same table with a dragon like Violet was incredibly stressful.

Anne couldn’t handle the pressure and waved her hand: “I’m already full from drinking coconut juice, Sister Long Ling, you eat, I’ll go to the bow to get some air.”

Long Ling nodded slightly: “Okay.”

Anne turned and left, with a waiter following her.

Long Ling had expected seafood since she had eaten plenty of it in Freedom City these past few days, but instead, some light dishes were served.

Long Ling took a bite with her chopsticks and discovered that the dishes were Chinese style, not too greasy, and very fresh and sweet, like the recipes she had once taught Mina.

Violet noticed Long Ling’s eyes widen, and she was in a good mood: “Is it good? These are vegetables I grew myself.”

Long Ling was biting a cold cucumber strip and paused: “It’s been so long? The vegetables haven’t gone bad yet. Did you arrange for someone to take care of the farm?”

Violet said softly: “I was waiting for you to come home. Those vegetables you planted on the farm have already ripened. I had someone load some of them into a car and send them to your tavern.”

She had thought Violet would level her meticulously crafted farm and plant pasture.

Long Ling’s mood was complicated: “Thank you, but you don’t need to send any more after this batch. We’ve already separated, and the farm is yours.”

Long Ling’s attitude had softened in the deep sea, but she still wanted to be clear with her.

Violet was a little angry: “I will still arrange for someone to take care of the farm. I will have delicious vegetables sent to you.”

Long Ling had thought she could make Violet give up, but she didn’t expect Violet to be so persistent.

Long Ling’s eyes darted away: “I won’t accept them.”

Violet extended her slender fingers and pressed them against Long Ling’s slightly parted red lips: “I will keep sending them.”

The atmosphere between the two was a bit tense.

Long Ling didn’t speak to Violet and silently ate her food.

Violet poured a glass of wine and handed it to Long Ling: “The strawberry fruit wine is also made by you. I drink it every day when you’re not around.”

Long Ling had just taken a sip and couldn’t help but cough.

Her lips were stained with red wine, and Violet quickly took a napkin to help her wipe the corners of her mouth.

Violet’s eyes were filled with a smile: “Why are you still so easy to blush? When you’re not at the manor, I can only sleep with your pillow every day.”

Long Ling’s cheeks were even hotter.

She could hardly imagine Violet sleeping with her pillow.

Would Violet’s dragon tail also appear and wrap tightly around her pillow?

Long Ling muttered: “I should have taken the pillow with me.”

Violet’s eyes turned dark: “Don’t you dare.”

The heartless little strawberry dragon didn’t leave her anything after they separated, not even a piece of clothing.

She looked around and only saw the crystal kitchen Long Ling had left behind.

When other people left, they would leave a love token to remember each other, but Long Ling was good.

She left completely clean, as if she didn’t want to have any connection with her in the future.

The more Violet thought about it, the more resentful she felt.

She took the wine glass Long Ling had drunk from and pressed her red lips against it.

Long Ling looked out the cruise ship window at the moonlit waves.

The cruise ship soon arrived at Yaripp Island.

From a distance, she could see a bright light.

Many dragons came here at night.

Anne had been enjoying the sea breeze all the way and eagerly said to Long Ling: “Sister Long Ling, let’s buy tickets to see the show. You can see a lot of mermaids.”

Anne led the way, with Long Ling and Violet following behind her.

They went to the grand stage covered with a red carpet together.

Behind the red curtain, there was a faint melodious singing, and the surrounding area was already crowded with people.

The ticket seller in front of them was also a very beautiful mermaid.

Her ears were sea-blue, almost transparent fins, like a gorgeous little fan.

Her legs were not the shiny fishtail Long Ling had imagined, but legs like a human.

It seemed that, like dragons, they could transform.

Long Ling asked about the price.

Ordinary tickets were ten gold coins, and VIP tickets were one hundred gold coins.

The seats were closer, allowing her to watch the mermaid dance performance up close.

Long Ling bought three VIP tickets and handed one to Anne, and they entered the inner hall together.

They were a little late, but the tickets they bought had great seats, directly in the front row.

It was Long Ling’s first time seeing a performance, and she found everything novel.

The velvet was very smooth, the chair back was decorated with red silk ribbons, and the sponge seat was very soft, making it comfortable to lean on.

The performance hadn’t started yet, and the surrounding lights were already prepared.

Long Ling looked at the VIP ticket in her hand.

It wasn’t made of paper, but of the scales of some kind of marine creature.

It felt soft and tough, with a slight matte texture.

The shape of the whole ticket was that of a fish.

It read “Mermaid Touring Performance Troupe,” along with the troupe leader’s name and contact information.

The performance time was stamped with a small red paw print, which looked very cute.

Long Ling squeezed the ticket in her hand, her lips slightly raised, and looked up intently at the stage.

Her hand suddenly felt heavy.

Long Ling looked down and saw that she had another ticket in her hand.

She turned to look at Violet beside her.

Violet looked at Long Ling’s curious expression and said softly: “For you.”

Long Ling saw the doting in Violet’s eyes, and her cheeks were a little hot: “Why give it to me?”

Violet gestured for her to look at the back of the ticket.

Long Ling flipped the two tickets over and found that there were numbers on the back of the tickets.

Her ticket was number 185, and Violet’s ticket was number 186.

A look of surprise flashed in Long Ling’s eyes: “There are numbers on the back?”

Violet’s eyes sparkled: “The ticket seller had a wooden sign next to her that said after the performance, the mermaids would draw a number and give away a lucky pearl.”

Hot air blew on Long Ling’s earlobe, causing her skin to tingle slightly.

Her palms inexplicably became soft: “Keep it yourself.”

Violet said with a smile: “Don’t you like this ticket? If you win, the winning ticket will turn into foam.”

Long Ling suddenly understood Violet’s meaning, but it was too close to be whispering.

She could smell Violet’s rose scent, which was a bit too ambiguous.

Long Ling had never broken up with anyone before, so she didn’t know if this was right.

Long Ling handed the ticket back to Violet: “You might not win anyway. Keep your own ticket.”

Violet stuffed it back: “No, it’s for you. Just keep it.”

Just as Long Ling was about to return it again, Anne suddenly said to her: “Sister Long Ling, take it. Isn’t it a good thing to have another chance to win? I also bought my ticket, so if I win, I’ll give it to you too.”

“And didn’t you want to give a gift to the elf? You can give her the lucky pearl.”

Violet’s face instantly turned black.

She wasn’t so generous that she would give Little Dragon the chance to send a gift to a rival in love.

What Anne said made some sense, but Long Ling thought of the Moonshadow Rabbit that Ellena had accompanied her to see.

To her, Ellena was a very important friend, and she wanted to give Ellena something more interesting.

“No need, thank you, Anne. Whoever wins, wins. I just wanted to see the mermaid performance. I’ll buy something else for Ellena.”

Anne nodded: “Okay, anyway, there are many mysterious merchants here. You’ll always find something that will satisfy Sister Long Ling.”

As soon as Long Ling finished speaking, Violet tightly grasped her hand that was hanging down, firmly holding it in her palm.

Violet’s mood improved slightly when she heard that Little Dragon wasn’t going to give the lucky pearl to that elf, but she still didn’t want Little Dragon to see Ellena.

Soon, the red curtain was pulled open, and the spotlight shone on the center of the stage.

First, a magician wearing a black cloak walked onto the stage, holding a staff and bowing slightly to everyone.

Everyone was disappointed that they didn’t see the beautiful mermaids.

The lights suddenly dimmed at this moment, and when the lights came on again, the stage was completely transformed into a vast ocean.

These magical seas still had waves surging, carrying the salty breath of the sea, as if they were about to splash on people’s faces.

Then, one after another, the beautiful mermaids swam over, waving their soft, shiny fishtails and warmly greeting the audience.

So beautiful, this was the most beautiful race in the world after she had seen the elves.

They, like dragons, had exquisite and beautiful scales.

After becoming a dragon, Long Ling began to develop an appreciation for animals with beautiful scales.

Long Ling couldn’t help but exclaim, and the little mermaid in the middle noticed her cute expression and winked at her.

Long Ling was a little shy.

She had just seen it for a second when Violet blocked her eyes.

“Don’t accept a heart from others.” Violet’s voice was low, sounding a bit gnashing.

Long Ling: “…” She knew she shouldn’t have gone to the island with Violet.

When Violet’s hand was pulled down by Long Ling, the mermaids had already started dancing in the water.

Long Ling had danced with Ellena during the Elven Mother Tree Festival, but the elves’ dance and the mermaids’ dance were completely different.

The elves’ dance was a dance of nature, carrying the aura of the forest’s sunlight and rain, bathed in the golden light of the Tree God’s blessing.

Petals and ribbons fell on the skirts. Dancing together was to celebrate the forest’s festival.

The mermaids were more like elves living in the ocean.

The dance looked full of love for the sea, and the singing sounded like a call from the sea.

Accompanied by the conch shell, it made her heart surge, like turning into a free little fish frolicking happily in the deep sea.

Until the mermaid dance ended, Long Ling hadn’t recovered.

The little mermaid in the center raised her hands slightly, and everyone in the audience cheered.

The fish tickets in their hands rose to mid-air at the same time, and a faint blue light flashed across the tickets in front of them.

That feeling was like waiting to win the lottery.

Long Ling looked at the two tickets in front of her, her heart pounding, and couldn’t help but become nervous.

Anne sat next to her, constantly whispering her and Long Ling’s numbers.

Violet’s eyes were always looking forward.

The little mermaid’s eyes seemed to have magic, seeing all the cheers from the audience.

She gently leaped her fishtail, and the blue light on all the tickets went out.

When everyone was nervous about who would win, Long Ling was suddenly hugged by Anne excitedly: “Sister Long Ling, you won!”

Long Ling was surprised for a second, seeing that the fish ticket with the number 186 had turned into a golden bubble, flying towards the little mermaid.

That was the ticket Violet gave her!

The surrounding dragons were all looking at Long Ling with envy.

The little mermaid caught the golden bubble in her hand and winked at Long Ling.

A crystal clear tear rolled down, turning into a beautiful pearl.

“Congratulations to number 186 for winning the lucky pearl. If you give it to someone you love, you will definitely be happy.”

The pearl was wrapped in the golden foam from before by the little mermaid, and with a flick of her fishtail, she sent the pearl to Long Ling.

When the round and beautiful pink lucky pearl fell into Long Ling’s hand, the golden foam disappeared.

The pearl shone with a faint golden light, carrying the mermaid’s blessing, and felt warm to the touch.

When Long Ling looked up again, all the mermaids had finished their performance and left.

The surrounding audience were discussing the mermaid performance while leaving one after another.

Violet gave the ticket that hadn’t won to Long Ling, her lips cold: “You can’t give the lucky pearl to anyone else, do you hear?”

Anne suddenly popped her head out: “Does that ‘anyone else’ refer to me?”

Violet glanced at Anne and continued to stare at Long Ling.

Long Ling knew in her heart that Ellena wasn’t a dragon and definitely wouldn’t like pearls.

She touched her nose and changed the subject: “Let’s go, Anne. Let’s go see other places.”

Anne nodded, raising a smile: “Let’s go. I also know a merchant who sells super delicious magic beast meat. Sister Long Ling, I’ll take you to try it.”

Violet watched Long Ling and Anne leave together, a dark light flashing in her eyes.

Her lonely figure had been seen by another person.
