Huang Xiu had never imagined that karma would strike so swiftly. A casual taunt uttered that day had unexpectedly led to such a heavy price today.
“I’m sorry!” she shrieked, her face contorted, as her left hand struggled to pry open the small hands gripping her own.
But they wouldn’t budge!
Those soft, delicate hands possessed a terrifying grip, clamping down like a pair of pliers.
“Sorry?” Liu Lu’s smile grew even more brazen. “If ‘sorry’ solved everything, what would we need the police for?”
Already, some people nearby had noticed the commotion. They gathered around, eager spectators to the unfolding drama.
Their eyes gleamed with curiosity and excitement.
“Fight! Fight!” someone muttered softly, admitting a preference for watching beautiful girls pull each other’s hair and brawl.
“Why aren’t they grappling yet? Just go for the takedown!” exclaimed another, clearly relishing the prospect of utter chaos.
Huang Xiu listened to the whispers. Gritting her teeth, she asked, “What exactly do you want?”
“I want you to…”
Before Liu Lu could finish her sentence, a green figure shot out of Huang Xiu’s pocket like a bolt of lightning.
It was Huang Xiaoxian.
The moment it landed, it vigorously pushed off the ground and leaped, delivering a fierce kick straight to Liu Lu’s chest.
Thwack!
Steel plates might stop bullets, but they offer little defense against a blunt impact!
Liu Lu had not anticipated this at all. The kick left her chest feeling stifled, and she found herself unable to breathe, a gasp caught in her throat.
She completely lost her balance, stumbling back a few steps.
Huang Xiu, seizing the opportunity, decisively pulled back her right hand, which was now throbbing red and trembling.
“Come back!”
She called back Huang Xiaoxian, who had been poised to deliver another beating, then, with a swift motion, tucked them back into her pocket.
“What was that thing!”
“Was that a Void Realm creature?”
“It looked like a Togemon from Digimon, didn’t it?”
A buzz of chatter rippled through the crowd. Although everyone present was an Awakened individual, not all of them had personally witnessed a Void Realm creature.
Most had encountered void energy near nexus points, or had simply awakened their abilities naturally.
Those who awakened during a life-or-death crisis, like Huang Xiu, were exceedingly rare.
“Your pet?” Liu Lu clutched her flat chest, her pretty face flushed crimson with anger. “Fine, very well. I’ll remember this!”
With that kick from Huang Xiaoxian, Huang Xiu had considered many things and ultimately instructed them to hold back a little.
So no sharp thorns were left embedded in Liu Lu’s chest.
After all, she had been in the wrong first.
Moreover, while Liu Lu had exerted considerable force, she hadn’t inflicted any substantial harm.
Nevertheless, Huang Xiu offered Liu Lu no pleasant expression. Supporting her right hand with her left, she retorted, “Remember it then, by all means! Let’s see what you can do to me!”
‘Anyone can make threats!’
The atmosphere between the two women grew increasingly tense, bristling with unspoken challenge. But just then, the sound of an announcement suddenly echoed across the plaza.
“Attention, all examinees, attention, all examinees. The re-examination is about to begin. Please submit your forms in fifteen minutes.”
The announcement was repeated three times, only ceasing when the echoes began to overlap and reverberate throughout the entire plaza.
At this moment, Huang Xiu could no longer spare any thought for her spat with Liu Lu.
Only ten minutes remained, and her form was still incomplete!
A significant portion of the onlookers also hadn’t finished their forms. The moment they heard the announcement, they scattered, rushing off to find a place to complete them.
Liu Lu had arrived early to ambush Huang Xiu and had already completed her form. Seeing Huang Xiu still searching, she didn’t bother her. Instead, she let out a huff, tossed her ponytail, and walked away alone.
“Oh, for heaven’s sake, where did it go?” Huang Xiu was growing anxious.
She bent down to search for the form she had dropped earlier, but sometimes, the more desperately one searches, the harder it is to find something.
“Are you looking for this?” A male voice came from beside her, and a sheet of paper fluttered down in front of Huang Xiu, who was still bent over.
“Oh, yes, that’s it! Thank you so much, really.”
The girl excitedly took the form, then lifted her head and looked in the direction of the voice.
What met her gaze was a young man with white hair and white eyebrows.
He was only about 1.75 meters tall, not particularly tall.
His features were delicate, and he possessed a pair of sky-blue eyes, but his unnaturally pale, almost sickly-white skin marred his overall aesthetic.
“You can call me Bai Baibai,” he quipped. “Am I not very pale?”
“Indeed, very pale,” Huang Xiu nodded earnestly, a hint of embarrassment coloring her face as she waved the form in her hand.
“Um, my name is Huang Xiu,” she began. “And this… I haven’t filled it out yet. Time is a bit tight.”
“No worries, you go ahead,” Bai Baibai said, smiling as he stepped aside. “There are chairs and tables over there; you can fill it out there.”
“Do you have a pen?” he asked again.
“I do.”
‘Unsolicited kindness often hides ulterior motives.’ Though harsh, there was some truth to the saying.
Huang Xiu silently heightened her guard.
“Alright.” Bai Baibai said no more. With his hands clasped behind his head, he sauntered off towards the crowd, swaying his shoulders.
Time was pressing, and Huang Xiu dared not delay further. She jogged to a nearby table and sat down, beginning to write furiously.
[Provide a detailed description of your ability.]
Without a moment’s hesitation, Huang Xiu, who had a fairly comprehensive understanding of her ability, promptly jotted down all her insights from this period.
However, because her right hand was still aching from being gripped, her handwriting was truly crooked and messy.
[How do you categorize your ability? (e.g., Offense, Crowd Control, Support, etc.)]
Support.
“Is this even a question of wanting? Of course, I want it all!” Huang Xiu boldly penned down “All-rounder.”
She wasn’t joking or trying to show off.
Senluo was precisely such an ability, with endless wondrous applications. Different mutated plants possessed different effects.
Whether for offense, crowd control, support, or logistics, everything could be handled by an army of mutated plants.
[What are your future development plans for your ability, and in what aspects might it grow after future advancements?]
This question was not so easy to answer.
Huang Xiu procrastinated for nearly five minutes before barely managing to piece together over a hundred characters, which she then tried to write as large as possible.
Only then did she manage to fill the blank space in the answer box.
There was no other way; even if she couldn’t answer properly, the blank spaces had to be filled.
This was a test-taking strategy their teachers had always emphasized.
By the time Huang Xiu finished her form, time was almost up. Less than a minute later, the announcement sounded again.
“All examinees, please submit your forms to the front. The re-examination will officially commence after all forms have been collected.”
Accompanying the broadcast, a circular, jagged door suddenly split open in the white wall directly opposite the corridor at the front of the plaza. A young man in a white lab coat, yawning, emerged.
“Forms are being collected! Hurry up!”
He spoke languidly, his voice not particularly loud, but he seemed aware of this, as he had a small ‘honeybee’ microphone clipped to his waist, the kind teachers often used in class.
“Line up, line up!”
He clapped his hands, and the examinees, not daring to be unruly, obediently formed two lines to submit their forms.
Huang Xiu, being close to the corridor, ended up at the very back of the line.
However, this also gave her an opportune moment to observe the other examinees and search for Fang Miaoging.
