Huajin Grand Residence
Nestled in the heart of the city, the Huajin Grand Residence was an opulent residential complex. Lush greenery enveloped its perimeter, ensuring abundant sunlight, while its comprehensive amenities catered to virtually every conceivable need.
In an era of soaring property prices, acquiring a single apartment within Huajin Grand Residence could easily deplete the life savings of two, or even three, generations of ordinary families.
The van pulled to a stop at the south gate of Huajin Grand Residence. Evetti Flann carefully helped a visibly distressed Chen Zeyu out of the vehicle.
“Ugh!” A tremor seized Chen Zeyu’s throat. She quickly bent over, dry heaving repeatedly beside a nearby trash can.
“Are you alright?”
Evetti Flann stayed by her side, her small hand gently stroking Chen Zeyu’s back, hoping to offer some comfort.
Tei Lai emerged from the driver’s seat, a hint of confusion etched on her face.
“Are you carsick?”
“Hmph… hmph. I don’t know. Maybe a little.”
Chen Zeyu forced herself to rally, grateful she hadn’t eaten breakfast; otherwise, it would all have ended up on the pavement. She stood upright, supporting her forehead, and swayed slightly as she looked back at Tei Lai.
“By the way, is this our new home?”
“Yep, the keys are right here,” Tei Lai said, jingling them.
“Are we renting?” Chen Zeyu eyed the towering building. Its marble facade gleamed, undoubtedly signaling a hefty price tag.
“No, I bought it. The title is in your name and Evetti Flann’s. Remember to use your alias. Also, the entire building is occupied by my colleagues. Feel free to seek us out if you need anything,” Tei Lai revealed without a hint of secrecy, completely unconcerned about Chen Zeyu potentially leaking information.
‘An entire building full of witch neighbors…’ Chen Zeyu gazed up at the high-rise, a sudden sense of awe, tinged with apprehension, filling her heart.
“Are you scared?” Evetti Flann leaned in, asking with a playful smile.
“Who… who’s scared? I’ve been to the Witch Company, alright?”
Chen Zeyu took a determined stride, intent on proving her bravery, only to be blocked by the access control system.
“What’s the rush? I wasn’t finished yet. Come here, come here,” Tei Lai chuckled, her yellow eyes twinkling with clear mischief.
“What else is there?” Chen Zeyu grumbled, her face sullen.
“Don’t humans have a tradition? What was it called… when a new couple moves into their marital home, they have a meal, right?” Tei Lai’s gaze shifted pointedly between Evetti Flann and Chen Zeyu.
“Senior Tei Lai, please don’t joke. I’m not old enough to marry. It’s a cohabitation, not a marital home,” Evetti Flann corrected, her cheeks faintly flushed as she glared at Tei Lai.
“I think that’s called a housewarming dinner. And what’s this about marriage? Me and her?”
Chen Zeyu couldn’t imagine getting a marriage certificate, yet her subconscious reaction felt strange. Shouldn’t the normal thought be that girls can’t marry each other?
“Alright, alright, no more talk of that. As witnesses to your move, we must share a meal together, mustn’t we?” Tei Lai draped an arm around both girls’ shoulders, nudging Evetti Flann and Chen Zeyu closer together.
“Senior Tei Lai, it’s too hot like this,” Evetti Flann said, a little shyly, her eyes constantly darting to Chen Zeyu’s face.
“…” Chen Zeyu’s expression was one of helplessness, like a fish resigned to its fate.
The two of them were thus herded together into the apartment.
Room 302.
The brown sensor door chimed softly, opening to reveal the scene within, laid bare without reservation.
Sunlight flooded the balcony, a gentle breeze rustling the white sheer curtains that adorned the potted plant area. The living room was spacious and bright, with a few simple wooden tables arranged for guests. The kitchen, equally clean and luminous, had its utensils neatly placed beside the stove.
This was Chen Zeyu’s first time living in such a clean and elegant home; it felt far more inviting than her previous rental, and the air was wonderfully fresh.
“Three bedrooms, one living room, independent kitchen and bathroom, with dry and wet separation,” Tei Lai explained, leaning against the doorframe.
Chen Zeyu, however, barely registered her words. She simply wanted to wander through her new dwelling.
The glossy tiles reflected her face, the tables were spotless, and carefully chosen plants added to the ambiance. This was the witches’ compensation to her.
For some inexplicable reason, a profound joy swelled in Chen Zeyu’s heart, a feeling that this moment made her entire life worthwhile.
“Do you like it?” Evetti Flann seemed to read Chen Zeyu’s thoughts, walking over to her and asking softly.
“I love it,” Chen Zeyu replied with a genuine smile, her pearly teeth gleaming brightly.
“Good. The best days are just beginning.”
Evetti Flann felt a great weight lift from her. She gently brushed a strand of long hair from her shoulder, just as a breeze from the rooftop gracefully embraced her.
Her hands, soft as jade, played through her silver locks, which shimmered and danced in the shifting light and shadow. Evetti Flann’s face softened against the backdrop of the sun, her pink lips like a dream, whispering, pledging, an oath of eternal loyalty and unwavering devotion to each other.
Thump! Thump!
Chen Zeyu clutched her chest. That sudden, pounding heartbeat was undoubtedly her own.
She was so beautiful.
Chen Zeyu’s cheeks flushed crimson. She quickly patted her face and shook her head.
“What’s wrong? Your face is so red, are you sick?” Evetti Flann reached out to touch Chen Zeyu’s forehead.
“No, it’s nothing.” Chen Zeyu dodged her hand, silently willing the blush to recede.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk…” Tei Lai clicked her tongue, her expression one of a delighted spectator, a truly marvelous auntie-like smile gracing her lips.
‘These two children are even easier to get along with than I imagined. Little Evetti Flann used to be so aloof towards others in the Witch Village. Perhaps, there’s a destined guidance at play after all.’
Tei Lai’s smile deepened, her hidden conjectures not betraying her face.
“Senior Tei Lai, shall we cook together?” Evetti Flann turned to invite her.
“Oh, I’m coming, I’m coming!” Tei Lai was in an exceptionally good mood today.
