The black-haired boy didn’t move, just looked at her blankly as usual.
The scene immediately became somewhat awkward.
(Seriously, say something! How is this different from what the book said!)
Flora’s face quickly flushed red.
This set of actions was what she learned from “A Thousand Strategies for Cute Maids to Capture Their Master’s Heart,” a so-called secret skill exclusive to maids that could charm countless masters.
Even though the actions and lines were embarrassingly cringe-worthy, she was going all out to capture the Crown Prince’s heart.
Who knew she’d go this far, and he’d still be unmoved.
(Could it be the rumors are wrong, and this guy likes men?)
Flora was beginning to doubt her own attractiveness.
After a long while, the black-haired boy finally showed a different expression.
“Is this magic?” he asked, looking wary.
Seemingly addressing Flora, but actually consulting the mage lurking in the shadows behind her, ready to strike at any moment.
Oh geez, does he have to be so afraid?
Flora finally understood why her cute offensive hadn’t worked, and quickly explained:
“No, these are just lines to make Your Highness happier…”
A faint vein throbbed on the black-haired boy’s forehead.
“Get out.”
Flora sheepishly retreated to the side.
“Get out of here.”
Perhaps recalling their conversation that morning, the black-haired boy added.
Flora had no choice but to hang her head and wait outside the dining hall.
She couldn’t say she didn’t understand the dangers that came with the Crown Prince’s position, nor did she deny the necessity of those guards secretly stationed around him.
But after so many preparations, for the Crown Prince to still be so tense and distrustful of everyone… aside from feeling speechless, she just felt that he was rather pitiable.
It showed how few people the Crown Prince could trust.
Perhaps those dark guards who always appeared in pairs were there to keep each other in check.
(Okay, I do have ulterior motives.)
Flora, knowing she was in the wrong, didn’t over-judge or dwell on it in her heart.
Once the Crown Prince finished his meal, she immediately entered the room, her energy fully restored, and said:
“Prince Ryan, farewell!”
The black-haired boy paused, but ultimately said nothing and left the dining hall.
The dark guards followed him out.
Flora took it as a sign that her persistence had finally elicited a small reaction from the Crown Prince, and couldn’t help but feel secretly pleased.
Unexpectedly, just as she finished cleaning up and stepped out the door, she saw the old butler approaching with a grim face.
“Flora, what did you just do?” the old butler’s tone was still restrained.
“His Highness told me not to assign you to work in the dining hall.”
(You little sneak, you went to complain behind my back?)
Pulling such a stunt as the master, Flora’s impression of the Crown Prince worsened.
But on the surface, she still apologized and truthfully recounted what had just happened to the old butler.
“Ah, what am I going to say to you?” the old butler couldn’t help but rub his forehead, earnestly saying,
“I know you’re eager to improve your relationship with His Highness, but you can’t suddenly do such strange things and disturb the master’s peace.”
“I’m sorry.”
Flora was also aware that she had been a bit too impatient and should have waited until the Crown Prince had a better impression of her before doing something like that.
But with such a good opportunity right in front of her, she really didn’t want to miss it.
“Go back and rest for a bit, there’s no rush to clean the rooms…”
Fortunately, this wasn’t a major incident, and the old butler didn’t reprimand her further.
“No, I’ll move back immediately,” Flora said with a slight firmness.
The old butler had already been considerate enough to her, and if he kept bending the rules for her in such matters, others would definitely gossip… she didn’t mind, since her identity was only for a year, but she couldn’t bear it if it affected the old butler’s reputation.
“Then let’s do that, thank you for your hard work.”
Seeing how sensible the blonde girl was, Charlton nodded with gratification.
(If only this child wasn’t so impatient… I’ll suggest to His Highness again later that she become a personal maid once more.)
The Crown Prince’s tests weren’t just for the first time.
But not many people could pass them so smoothly, and considering her character, the blonde girl seemed very outstanding.
At least Charlton usually scolded her with the heart of a loving father.
After bidding farewell to the old butler, Flora quickly packed her things and moved back to her room in the west wing’s remote residence.
“Flora, you’re finally back!”
Heidi had clearly been waiting in the room for a long time, and immediately pulled her inside, locked the door, and lowered her voice,
“Why are you still doing such things? Aren’t you afraid? You scared everyone today!”
“It’s okay, His Highness doesn’t care about such things. As for scaring you, it’s true that I was inconsiderate,” Flora said, recalling the morning incident. “Is Polina alright?”
“She’s fine, and Mr. Charlton didn’t give her any trouble… No, I’m asking about you! You’ve been demoted! Everyone’s secretly laughing at you!” Heidi was slightly anxious and worried.
“I didn’t do well enough, but they won’t fire me because of this, don’t worry,” Flora said with a smile. “As for everyone’s laughter, isn’t that a common occurrence? I’m used to it.”
This wasn’t bravado, but such a degree of ridicule and questioning was nothing compared to the rumors and slanders she had faced before.
But when she really made a mistake, she would still feel ashamed.
She just didn’t care too much about what others said.
Seeing that there wasn’t a hint of sadness or fear on the blonde girl’s face, Heidi couldn’t help but sigh:
“You have such a good attitude. If I encountered something like this, I definitely wouldn’t be able to take it.”
“I just don’t like remembering these unpleasant things… Heidi, can you help me organize my things?”
Flora pulled over her suitcase, and the two didn’t discuss these matters any further.
A night passed.
In the morning, Flora was still working near the main hall, and the others wouldn’t find her behavior of seeing off the Crown Prince strange anymore during the lineup.
But in the afternoon, when she wanted to take on the work near the main hall again, a maid named Yala beat her to it.
Normally, out of fear of the Crown Prince, no one was willing to do the cleaning work in this location, and even if Flora was the last to raise her hand, she could easily take it on.
And before that, the old butler had already arranged someone else to be responsible for the dining hall, so Flora had no choice but to choose other work.
“Flora, I’m really sorry, the cleaning work in the main hall is mine this time.”
After the dismissal, the maid Yala caught up with her and said smugly.
Having been a woman for a month, Flora also knew that girls especially liked to form small cliques.
This Yala was the head of the most powerful clique among the twelve maids in their batch, and she was usually the one leading the mockery and laughter at Flora.
But this was actually due to Flora deliberately not wanting to get along with them, so Flora didn’t hold much resentment in her heart.
Rather, seeing that the other party was planning to imitate her approach to curry favor with the Crown Prince, she quickly reminded her:
“Yala, you need to be careful, His Highness is not as easy to get along with as you think.”
