Ye Jue was somewhat puzzled by Chris’s words, failing to understand why she reintroduced herself. However, he didn’t dwell on it, as a more pressing concern had emerged: if Chris were to join them, their immediate priority would be finding a place to live.
Yet, in Vermilion Bird City, where land was as precious as gold, even if Ye Jue knew how to acquire a house, he couldn’t gather the necessary funds in such a short time.
The problem that occurred to Ye Jue had naturally also crossed Lin Shenyue’s mind. Her primary concern was that Chris had only quietly revealed her identity to her, likely wishing to keep it secret from others.
Therefore, owning a private residence was essential. Noticing Ye Jue’s furrowed brow, she softly inquired, “Is the housing situation difficult to resolve?”
Ye Jue nodded, a hint of helplessness in his voice. “Even if I currently possess a method to acquire a house, I don’t have enough money to purchase one.
Moreover, at this particular moment, the quests that lead to obtaining a house are quite troublesome.”
Lin Shenyue found herself in a quandary. “Then what should we do?”
Observing the two sighing beside her, Chris finally spoke. “You don’t need to worry about my accommodation. My father still owns a house in this city.”
Lin Shenyue stared at Chris, rather speechless. “Why didn’t you say so earlier? We wasted all that emotion for nothing…”
Chris replied innocently, “You didn’t ask.”
Lin Shenyue shook her head helplessly. “Never mind. Where is your residential area located?”
Chris pondered for a moment. “I remember it’s at (12432, 6984).” (The coordinates are random; please disregard if they don’t fit the actual situation.)
Ye Jue paused slightly after hearing Chris’s words, then intently scrutinized her. Ultimately, he shook his head with a smile. ‘How could it possibly be that person?’ he thought.
Lin Shenyue, noticing Ye Jue’s peculiar behavior, asked, “What’s wrong?”
Ye Jue shook his head. “Nothing. Oh, right, I need to log off for a bit. You can have Chris take you to her house first.”
While NPCs generally wouldn’t invite players into their homes, given Chris’s high favorability with Lin Shenyue, Ye Jue surmised this rule likely wouldn’t apply.
Lin Shenyue, recalling her own tendency to get lost, nodded with a touch of resignation.

Watching Ye Jue log off, Lin Shenyue turned to Chris. Chris hesitated for a moment, then finally relented. “Alright, I can take you to my house.
However, I hope you won’t touch my father’s belongings without permission. After all, these are the only things he left for me.”
Lin Shenyue nodded, a joyful expression on her face. “I understand. Let’s go then.”
With the city gate directly ahead, Lin Shenyue wasn’t concerned about getting lost with such a clear landmark. Since Hans had already taken the two horses, they had no choice but to walk at a leisurely pace.
After riding a teleportation array with Chris, Lin Shenyue found herself standing before a grand house. In Vermilion Bird City, such residences were exclusive to the noble district.
Those who resided in this area possessed not only immense wealth but also extraordinary power.
If Ye Jue had accompanied them, he would undoubtedly have recognized this house. However, due to a twist of fate, he hadn’t joined the two, thus postponing the moment he would learn the truth.
Chris stood outside the door, her gaze fixed on the house, and a mournful expression once again settled upon her face.
Lin Shenyue found herself at a loss for words of comfort. She had already said all she could, and any further attempts might prove counterproductive.
Chris wiped away her tears and offered a faint smile. “I’ve made you worry again, Sister. I’m fine. It’s just that seeing the house reminded me of the days I spent living with my father.”
Lin Shenyue remained silent, believing that at this moment, her presence alone, even without words, offered an unspoken solace.
Chris took out a key and unlocked the large door. With a gentle push, the door swung open with a creak.
The house boasted a vast courtyard and numerous rooms, varying in size. The courtyard itself was overgrown with weeds, clearly indicating a long period of neglect.
As Chris led Lin Shenyue forward, she spoke softly. “This was once where my father and mother lived together. After my mother passed away, my father, to avoid painful memories, took me and left.
That’s why this place became derelict.”
Lin Shenyue remained silent for a moment before asking, “May I ask how your mother died? Of course, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
Chris sighed. “There’s nothing I can’t say. My mother was a priestess, holding a relatively high position in the Church of Light. She was captured by those from the Church of Darkness.
The Church of Darkness used her to threaten the Church of Light, demanding the release of someone. The Church of Light naturally refused, and my mother sacrificed her life as a result.
This is one of the reasons my father took me away; he was probably disillusioned with the Church of Light.”
Lin Shenyue mused, “Then is your willingness to be close to me because I am also a priestess?”
Chris nodded, then shook her head. “That’s part of it, but it’s not the main reason.” ‘The most important reason is that I sense a silent, powerful force within you, and following you might allow me to avenge my parents,’ Chris thought, but did not voice these words, so Lin Shenyue remained unaware.
Chris approached a large room and opened its door. Dust billowed out, causing both of them to cough for a while.
Chris said apologetically, “I’m sorry, the house hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. It was my oversight to bring you straight in.”
Lin Shenyue smiled and waved her hand, indicating it was fine. Then, a thought struck her. “Then where will you sleep tonight?”
Chris glanced at the dusty surroundings, a helpless expression on her face. “I’ll find a hotel to stay in for now. Tomorrow, I’ll hire someone to clean the house.”
Considering she had nothing else to do, Lin Shenyue suggested, “How about we clean it together? We can tidy up a place to sleep first, and then tomorrow we can hire someone to clean the rest.”
Chris hesitated. “Are you sure?”
Lin Shenyue smiled and nodded. “Of course.”
She wasn’t familiar with her current life’s circumstances, but in her previous life, she had done plenty of household chores like this. Mainly, she was the only one at home, her parents were rarely around, and she didn’t want others interfering with her activities, so she had to do many tasks herself.
After nearly an hour of working together with Chris, they finally finished tidying a small room. At least, this meant Chris now had a place to stay.
Chris let out a long sigh of relief. “It’s finally done. But there’s only one bed in this room, so let’s sleep together.”
Lin Shenyue was startled upon hearing this. “Wouldn’t that be inappropriate?”
Chris chuckled. “What’s so inappropriate? We’re both girls, after all, Sister.” With that, she pulled Lin Shenyue onto the bed.
