The Assassin’s Target

Chapter 81849 words8 min read

“I am Wilson, a deity from the Divine Realm, seventeen million, six hundred and twenty thousand years old,” the blond young man declared, his voice utterly devoid of inflection as he rose to his feet.

The expressions of those around him slowly grew strange. Wilson paused, then continued, “My profession is assassin. Both in real life and within this game, I believe you understand my meaning.”

A bead of sweat seemed to form on my forehead, yet I forced myself to appear calm. It seemed he didn’t know my current appearance, otherwise he would have acted already. ‘To think, I really am the target.’

Having spoken, Wilson settled back onto the sofa, but everyone’s gaze upon him had irrevocably changed.

I feigned a startled expression and didn’t rush to introduce myself. After all, any girl hearing such a thing would surely be taken aback.

After a long moment, the black-haired youth, Warren, patted my shoulder. Only then did I adopt a look of sudden awareness, saying, “S-sorry, I was, I was a little, a little startled just now…” Taking a deep breath, I continued, “Actually, my name is Jiang Yue, from the Feathered City. Profession? None. No job, just unemployed at home…”

“Alright everyone, introductions are done, and there’s nothing more to say,” the middle-aged man, Kane, stated. “We all understand, it’s all for that victory, isn’t it? From now on, I think you can move freely and search for clues on your own.”

Everyone readily agreed. ‘If we’re not searching for clues ourselves, are we supposed to just sit around playing cards?’

I felt incredibly uncomfortable at the moment. Warren, buzzing like a fly beside me, wouldn’t stop chattering, yet since I was trying to play dumb, I couldn’t openly tell him to leave, leaving myself completely constrained.

Arriving outside a small room, I pressed the doorknob and opened the door, preparing to see what was inside.

Flipping on the room’s light, I saw a chair, a desk, and a bookshelf. However, upon closer inspection, I seemed to have discovered something extraordinary…

But with that annoying fellow beside me, I pondered for a long time and ultimately decided not to investigate. After all, I didn’t know if this clown would do something stupid.

I feigned disappointment and exited the room. He, however, seemed inclined to search more thoroughly, allowing me to seize the opportunity to slip away and head to the main hall.

Last night was merely a warm-up; nothing actually happened, so there was naturally nothing noteworthy. However, I recalled there were several ways to eliminate someone.

The first was by attaching marks; the person with the most marks would be eliminated, once a day. Thus, it was clear that without any specific conditions, tonight’s eliminated participant would simply be an unlucky soul.

The second method of elimination was to discover the opponent’s elimination condition and fulfill it, thereby eliminating them.

However… I suddenly had another bold idea. ‘What if I deliberately got myself eliminated by another player?’

How then, could I get someone else to eliminate me without the assassin discovering my true identity? No matter how I thought about it, there seemed to be no good solution.

After searching for a while, everyone seemed to realize it was futile. Thus, the area around the coffee table gradually filled with people.

Most were closing their eyes in contemplation, but there was truly no one else like me, heartily devouring snacks.

Time flowed by, second by second, yet I never stopped eating. After all, ever since I became a deity, my appetite had become incredibly good, but Lavishly Karafar and the others would never let me eat much, always claiming I’d get fat.

Now that no one was supervising me, I intended to eat my fill. My thoughts were singularly focused on the pile of snacks before me.

“Hey,” the fierce-looking man from before roared at Wilson. “You bastard, you wouldn’t be trying to kill one of us just for money, would you?”

“Money holds no meaning for me,” Wilson answered the man’s question. “However… the person I must kill, regardless of anything, she *must* die.”

I swallowed hard, my eating slowed. ‘This truly seems like trouble for me.’ That guy didn’t seem like the easily fooled type; simply deceiving him would likely be impossible. Thus, I could only end the game before he discovered my true identity.

Click— At this moment, the television switched on again. Another uniformed woman in white appeared, though it wasn’t the previous one.

“Everyone—the first day is about to end! There are voting devices on the table, one for each of you~” the uniformed woman said with a smile.

“Oh, and also, be sure to keep your voting devices safe. We don’t provide a way to retrieve them, so if someone else picks it up, it becomes theirs. Please pay close attention to this.”

“Well then, tonight’s vote is about to begin. So, who will be the first ‘lucky’ participant to exit this legendary showdown?” The uniformed woman giggled, a hint of anticipation in her voice.
